71 Clearing jams from the printer Tray 1 and the print cartridge area Note:The following instructions are written assuming you are using the multipurpose feeder and the duplex unit. If you are using the envelope feeder, you must remove it before opening the duplex unit door. For instructions, seeRemoving the optional envelope feeder. 1Open the multipurpose feeder. 2Push up on the latch to release the duplex unit door (Door E). 3Gently lower the door to the open position. 4Pull up on handle to open the printer side door (Door A). 72 5Remove the paper based on what part is visible. –If the paper is visible, pull it straight out and continue withstep 9 on page 72. –If the paper is not visible or there is not enough showing to grasp easily, it is still in the tray. Completestep 6 on page 72throughstep 9 on page 72. –If the paper is not visible in the tray, the paper is lodged behind the tray and requires that you remove the tray. 78 Behind trays 1, 2, and 3 In rare cases, a piece of print media can become lodged behind a tray where it cannot be reached unless the tray is removed from the printer. 1Pull the tray out to the stop position. 2Graspeachsideofthetray. 3Pull the tray straight up, and then out toward you.
