    Cleaning the printer
    Toner may leak out of the print cartridge at times. After removing an old print cartridge, clean any
    spilled toner before you install a new print cartridge.
    To clean the printer:
    1Unplug the printer power cord.
    2Wipe the following areas with a damp paper towel. Be sure to catch all the toner in the paper
    towel; do not let any toner fall into other areas of the printer or outside of the printer.
    –Wipe out the print cartridge housing.
    –Wipe below the print car tridge housing area.
    –Wipe the inside of the printer front door (Door F.)
    –Wipe the inside of the printer side door (Door A). Wipe any areas behind Door A where
    you see spilled toner.
    3Plug in the printer power cord.
    4Continue withInstalling the new print cartridge.

    Replacing a staple cartridge
    TheStaples Lowmessage appears when the stapler is low on staples. Once the message appears,
    the stapler can only staple 40 more times. Then, you need to replace the staple cartridge.
    1Open the finisher door (Door K).
    2Push down the lever on the stapler.
    The staple cartridge holder is released.

    3Pull the staple cartridge holder up slightly, and then straight out.
    4Remove and discard the empty staple cartridge.
    5Insert the new staple cartridge into the staple cartridge holder.

    6Peel the protective tape from the staple cartridge. Discard the tape.
    7Lift the staple cartridge holder up slightly to clear the edge of the cartridge housing and slide
    the staple cartridge holder into its housing until it
    snapsinto place.
    Note:When the staple cartridge holder is correctly placed, the lever on the stapler moves
    to its original position.
    8Close the finisher door (Door K).

    Emptying the hole punch box
    TheEmpty Box Mmessage appears when the hole punch box becomes full. To empty the box:
    1Open the finisher door (Door K).
    2Grasp the handle on the hole punch box, lift the box up slightly, and then pull it straight out.
    3Discard the contents of the box.

    4Reinstall the hole punch box.
    Lift the box up slightly, and then slide the box all the way into the finisher.
    Note:Make sure the bottom of the hole punch box is fully seated in the finisher. If the box
    is not fully in place, aBox M Missingmessage appears.
    5Close the finisher door (Door K).

    Replacing the items in the
    maintenance kit
    When the80 Scheduled Maintenancemessage appears, it is time to replace the items in the
    maintenance kit. SeeOrdering a maintenance kitor more information.
    The maintenance kit contains the items in the following illustration. Click the name of an item for
    installation instructions:
    Unpack each box and remove any packaging. Wear the gloves as you replace the fuser to keep your
    hands clean. Once you have replaced all the items and cleaned the wiper blade in the finisher, if you
    have that option attached, seeResetting the maintenance page counterfor more information.

    Replacing the fuser
    The fuser is one of the items in the maintenance kit. Replace it when80 Scheduled Maintenance
    appears.
    Removing the old fuser
    1Turn the printer off.
    2If the envelope feeder is attached to the printer, remove it. SeeRemoving the optional
    envelope feeder.
    3If a duplex unit is attached to the printer, open the duplex unit door (Door E).
    aPush up on the latch to release the door.
    bGently lower the door to the open position.
    4Pull up on the handle to open the printer side door (Door A). Gently lower the door to the open
    position.

    5Using the handholds located on each side, pull open the printer front door (Door F).
    CAUTION:The fuser may be hot. Allow time for it to cool before continuing. Use the handles
    on the fuser to remove it.
    6Loosen the two green thumbscrews. They do not come completely out.

    7Grasp the green handle through its ring and pull it forward. The handle slides up and locks into
    the open position.
    8Grasp the recessed green handle through its ring and rotate it out toward you. It does not lock
    into position.
