119 9Grasp both handles and firmly pull the fuser out. 10Dispose of the old fuser. Installing a new fuser 1Remove the packaging from the new fuser. 2Pull the labels off of each side of the fuser. 3Use a flat blade screwdriver or a coin to turn each screw until they are loose. 120 4Pull the screws straight out, and then discard them. 5Grasp the right handle through its ring and pull it to the front. It slides up and locks into the open position. 6Grasp the left handle through its ring and rotate it out toward you. It does not lock into position. 7Align the fuser with the opening in the printer, and then slide it into place. 121 9Carefully tighten the green thumbscrews. WARNING:Over tightening the screws can strip the threads. 10Close the printer front door (Door F). 11Close the printer side door (Door A). 12If the duplex unit is attached to the printer, close the duplex unit door (Door E). 13Reinstall the envelope feeder if it was removed. SeeReinstalling the envelope feeder. 14If you have already replaced all the items listed in the following note, you may turn the printer on. 122 33 Replacing the transfer roller The transfer roller is one of the items in the maintenance kit. Replace it when the printer displays the 80 Scheduled Maintenancemessage. Removing the old transfer roller 1Turn the printer off. 2If the envelope feeder is attached to the printer, remove it. SeeRemoving the optional envelope feeder. 3If the duplex unit is attached to the printer, open the duplex unit door (Door E). aPush up on the latch to release the door. bGently lower the door to the open position. 4Pull up on the handle to open the printer side door (Door A). 123 5Grasp the green tabs on each end of the transfer roller, and then pull forward to release them. 6Rotate the tabs toward the printer. 7While holding the tabs, pull straight up to remove the transfer roller. 8Dispose of the old transfer roller. Downloaded From ManualsPrinter.com Manuals
124 Installing the new transfer roller 1Remove the packaging from the new transfer roller. 2Hold the transfer roller, and rotate the tabs in the direction as shown. Note:To help in the orientation of the transfer roller, notice that the tabs are not the same shape or size. 3Align the steel bars on the transfer roller with the grooves in the printer. 4Push firmly on each end of the transfer roller until the barssnapinto the grooves. 5Grasp the tabs and rotate them as shown. 126 34 Replacing pick rollers The pick rollers come in a package of 15 in the maintenance kit. Replace three in each tray when the printer issues the80 Scheduled Maintenancemessage. If you don’t have a high capacity feeder, you will have nine pick rollers left over from the package. A pick roller transports the paper from an input tray to the paper path. Removing old pick rollers 1Remove trays 1 and 2 from the printer, and trays 3 and 4 from the optional high capacity input feeder if it is installed. See the following topics to complete this step: Behind trays 1, 2, and 3 Behind Tray 4 2Set all trays aside. 3Open tray 5 completely. Note:The following illustrations show the process of removing old pick rollers; however, the illustrations do not show all the trays removed. Focus on the removal of the pick rollers. Ignore the trays still in the illustrations. 4Start with the opening left by removing tray 1 and locate three pick rollers in the upper left corner inside the printer. 5Turn the bottom pick roller counterclockwise until you see the small tab on the end. 127 6Push the tab away from the metal bar. 7Pull the pick roller straight out. 8Locate the spring-loaded metal plate in front of the two top pick rollers. 9Pull the metal plate down and to the right. 128 bPull the pick roller straight out. 11Dispose of the pick rollers. CAUTION:To prevent a falling hazard, dispose of the pick rollers immediately and in a proper manner. 12Completestep 5 on page 126tostep 11 on page 128fortray2,andtray3ifyouhavethe optional high capacity feeder installed. 13For tray 4, open Door C for better access.
