    About the smartphone password
There are several types of password protection that you can use on your BlackBerry smartphone.
    Smartphone password
You can create a smartphone password to help protect your smartphone from unauthorized access and use, and you can
set your smartphone to lock after a certain period of inactivity. You must enter your smartphone password to unlock your
smartphone. If you forget your password, it can't be recovered. For security reasons, if you exceed the number of allowed
password attempts, your smartphone deletes all your smartphone data and prompts you to set a new password.
    BlackBerry ID
After you create a BlackBerry ID, you can use a single email address and password to log in to any BlackBerry product or
    service that supports
BlackBerry ID. If you exceed the number of allowed attempts to log in using BlackBerry ID, wait for
the security lockout to end before you try to log in again. To reset your
    BlackBerry ID password, visit www.blackberry.com/
    blackberryid
    .
    Password Keeper
You can use the Password Kepper ( ) to store password information, such as your passwords for online banking. The
Password Keeper is designed to encrypt your password information, and decrypt it when you enter the Password Keeper
password. Rember that you might also need your smartphone password before you access the Password Keeper. If you
exceed the number of allowed attempts to open the Password Keeper, the Password Keeper data can't be accessed unless
you restore your smartphone data. After you restore your smartphone data, when you attempt to open Password Keeper
you are prompted to create a Password Keeper password. Then, you are prompted to enter the old Password Keeper
password to access old password information.

    Encryption
About encrypting data and files on your smartphone
When encryption for data on your BlackBerry smartphone is turned on, your smartphone uses a private key to encrypt data
stored on your smartphone, including data that your smartphone receives when it's locked. When you lock your
smartphone with a password, a lock indicator appears at the top of the screen when your smartphone has secured your
data. You can also encrypt the files on your media card using your smartphone password, an encryption key that your
smartphone generates, or both. Your smartphone decrypts data as you access it.
