Smart accessories About the Smart Accessories application You can change how your BlackBerry smartphone functions when you connect it to a dock, charger, or charging pod by creating a dock profile to identify the dock or charger in the Smart Accessories application. For example, you might be able to identify a dock as a bedside dock so that when you connect your smartphone, your smartphone's sound profile turns off, and your smartphone's alarm clock turns on. Set up a new dock The first time you connect your BlackBerry smartphone to a dock, charger, or charging pod, you're prompted to set the behavior of your smartphone for each time it connects. If you choose not to set the behaviour of your smartphone you'll be prompted again the next time you connect your smartphone to the dock, charger, or charging pod. If you remove your smartphone from the dock, charger, or charging pod while the configuration screen is displayed on your smartphone, the configuration screen will remain open. 1.In the Smart dock dialog box, click Configure. 2.In the Dock Name field, type a name for your dock profile. •To turn on an application when you connect your smartphone, in the Start Application drop-down list, click an application. •To change the sound profile when you connect your smartphone, in the Sound Profile drop-down list, click a sound profile. •To turn on or turn off the mobile network when you connect your smartphone, in the Mobile Network drop-down list, click On or Off. •To turn on or turn off the Wi-Fi connection when you connect your smartphone, in the Wi-Fi drop-down list, click On or Off. •To turn on or turn off Bluetooth technology when you connect your smartphone, in the Bluetooth drop-down list, click On or Off. 3.Press the key > Save. Change a dock profile Before you begin: To perform this task you must have a dock profile saved on your BlackBerry smartphone. You can change the applications that open, the sound profile, or whether the mobile network, Wi-Fi network, or Bluetooth technology turns on or turns off when you connect your smartphone. Set your smartphone to turn on and turn off automatically You can set your BlackBerry smartphone to turn off while you aren't using it for an extended period, like when you sleep. Data you receive when the smartphone is turned off automatically updates when the smartphone turns on. 1.On the home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon. 2.Click Device > Auto On/Off. 3.In the Weekday or Weekend section, select the Enabled checkbox. 4.Specify the times when your smartphone should turn on and turn off on weekdays and weekends. 5.Press the key > Save. Turn off your smartphone Depending on your theme, the location or name of the Power Off icon might differ from the location or name in this task. •If you haven't set your BlackBerry smartphone to turn on and turn off automatically at specific times, press and hold the key. •If you have set your smartphone to turn on and turn off automatically at specific times, on the home screen or in a folder, click the Power Off icon. If you want your smartphone to stay turned off until you turn it on again, click Full Power Off . About battery saving mode Battery saving mode helps your phone conserve energy and extend the amount of time between charges. When turned on, battery saving mode monitors the battery strength. When your battery strength starts getting low, the application automatically adjusts some options in the phone. Some options the phone adjusts to extend battery strength include: •Reducing the brightness of the backlight to its lowest level. •Reducing the length of time before the backlight turns off. •Turning on the option to automatically dim the backlight. •Reducing the setting for the Mobile Hot Spot automatic shutdown timer. Turn on or turn off battery saving mode When you turn on battery saving mode, your BlackBerry smartphone automatically changes options to conserve battery power. When you turn off battery saving mode or the smartphone is charged, your normal smartphone settings are restored. 1.On the home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon. 2.Click Device > Battery Saving Mode. 3.Select or clear the Turn on Battery Saving Mode when battery power level is low checkbox. 4.To change the power level that turns on battery saving mode, change the Start when battery power is at or drops below field. 5.Press the key > Save. Turn on or turn off Application Resource Monitor The Application Resource Monitor app monitors apps running in the background and reports on any that are abusing system resources and causing issues, such as sluggish performance or lower than expected battery life. Application Resource Monitor alert you of any apps that are abusing system resources or automatically shut down those apps. 1.On the home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon. 2.Click Device > Application Resource Monitor. 3.Select or clear the Turn on Application Resource Monitor checkbox , and then customize the application by doing any of the following:. •Select or clear the Automatically shutdown background draining applications checkbox. •Select or clear the Do not automatically shut down audio streaming applications. When abusive behavior is identified you are prompted to immediately shut down the app or ignore the prompt and allow the app to continue running. If you decide to ignore the prompt, Application Resource Monitor will not monitor the app again.
