    Some remote mac hine profiles are used for a rang e of mac hines. 
    Either voic e a name that is meaning ful for all mac hines in the rang e, 
    or d o not voic e a name for these p rofiles. 
    7. Using  a touc h-tone telephone, log  into the Intuity mac hine using  the 
    extension that has announc ement-c ontrol permissions. 
    8. From the ac tivity menu, p ress   to perform system ad ministration.

    10. Using  the touc h-tone keyp ad, enter the voic e ID for the first remote 
    machine and press  .

    Remote sub sc rib ers on systems ad ministered  for AMIS one-step  ad d ressing  may 
    b e ad ministered  on the loc al system. Messag e Delivery rec ip ients may also b e 
    ad ministered  on the loc al system. Bec ause eac h remote sub sc rib er must b e 
    manually ad ministered  on the loc al mac hine, you may wish to ad minister only 
    those remote sub sc ribers who are reg ular AMIS analog networking  and /or 
    messag e d elivery rec ip ients. This task is op tional. 
    NOTE:
    Remote users on systems ad ministered  for AMIS two-step  ad d ressing  
    c annot b e ad ministered  on the loc al system. 
    Use the following  p roc ed ure to administer remote sub sc rib ers on the loc al 
    mac hine.
    1. Log  on to the Intuity system und er the SA log in and ac c ess the Intuity 
    Ad ministration menu, shown in Fi g u re  5 -1.
    2. Selec t AUDIX Ad ministration from the Intuity Ad ministration menu.
    After you selec t the op tion, you see a b lank AUDIX Voic e Messag ing  
    sc reen as shown in Fig ure 5-17.
    3. Enter add remote-subscriber
     at the c ommand p romp t.
    After you enter the c ommand , you see the Remote-Sub sc rib er sc reen as 
    shown in Figure 5-23.

    4.Complete the sc reen b y inserting  the sub sc rib er’s name, extension, 
    c ommunity ID, and  mac hine name(s) as d esc rib ed  in Chap ter 2, Planning  
    and  Desig n.
    5. Press   (F3) to ad d  the remote sub sc riber to the loc al system’s 
    database. 
    6. Rep eat the p roc ed ure for eac h remote sub sc rib er you need  to ad minister. 
    7. When you finish add ing  remote sub sc rib ers, p ress   (F1) to exit the 
    sc reen. 
    You also c an use the Remote Sub sc riber sc reen to delete remote sub sc rib ers, 
    d isp lay remote sub sc rib er p rofiles, and  c onvert non-ad ministered  remote 
    sub sc rib ers to ad ministered  remote sub sc rib ers. You also may want to c onvert a 
    remote ad ministered  sub sc rib er to a non-ad ministered remote sub sc riber if the 
    ad ministered  remote sub sc rib er threshold  is b eing  ap p roac hed  or has b een 
    reac hed .

    If you wish, you c an rec ord  ad ministered  remote sub sc rib ers’ names. Loc al 
    sub sc rib ers who add ress messag es to these remote sub sc rib ers, or who inc lud e 
    their ad d resses in mailing  lists or p ersonal d irec tories, c an then hear name 
    voic eb ac k to c onfirm that the ad d ress they entered  is c orrec t. 
    Use the following  p roc ed ure to rec ord  ad ministered  remote sub sc rib er names.

    name you wish to rec ord  as it ap p ears in the Extension field  on the sc reen. 
    7. Sp eak the sub sc rib er’s name c learly when p romp ted . 
    8. Press   to app rove the name, or p ress     to d elete and  rerec ord  it. 
    Press     to listen to your rec ording , followed  b y   to ap prove or     
    to d elete the rec ord ing . 
    9. Rep eat Step s 6 throug h 8 for eac h remote sub sc rib er name you wish to 
    rec ord . 
    10. When you are finished  rec ord ing  names, press     to return to the 
    ac tivity menu, or hang  up  the p hone to exit the system. 
    Test the Connection
    This sec tion d esc rib es tests that c hec k the op eration of the AMIS Analog 
    Networking  and/or Messag e Delivery features. Use these tests as the final step  in 
    ad ministering  the AMIS Analog  Networking and /or Messag e Delivery features, or 
    to troub leshoot a p rob lem with the network. 
    AMIS Analog Network Connection Test
    You c an test the AMIS analog  c onnec tion b y send ing  a test messag e to the 
    d estination mac hine or b y using the AMIS loop b ac k test mailb oxes, if they were 
    ad ministered . 
    Use the following  p roc ed ure to use the remote system’s AMIS loop b ac k test 
    mailb ox: 
    1. Contac t the system ad ministrator at the remote AMIS mac hine.
    2. Req uest the numb er of the remote AMIS loop b ac k test mailb ox. If a 
    loop b ac k mailb ox is not ad ministered, req uest an extension to whic h you 
    c an send  a test AMIS messag e. 
    3. Give the remote system ad ministrator the numb er of your AMIS loop b ac k 
    test mailb ox and  req uest that the ad ministrator send  you a test message. 
    4. From your own extension, log  into the loc al system and  c reate an AMIS 
    messag e with the remote machine’s loopb ack test mailb ox ad d ress or the 
    alternative test extension. 
    5. Sc hedule the messag e for immed iate delivery.
    If the remote system’s loop b ac k test mailbox rec eives your test messag e, 
    the system send s a c opy of your messag e bac k to your inc oming  mailb ox 
    as a new voic e mail message.

    6. Wait a few minutes, then c hec k your mailb ox.
    nIf the messag e c ould  not b e delivered , you will have a new 
    messag e notifying  you that the messag e was und eliverab le. 
    Access your outgoing mailbox by pressing   and play the 
    undeliverable messag e head er to find  out the reason the d elivery 
    attemp t failed . Dep end ing  on the error messag e, c orrec t the most 
    likely p rob lem. Verify the intend ed  rec ip ient’s ad d ress and  
    ad ministration, then p erform another test. 
    nIf the loc al system suc c essfully delivered  the message, the 
    messag e status in your outg oing  mailb ox up d ates to 
    delivered. If 
    the messag e has not yet b een d elivered , c hec k your mailb ox ag ain 
    later to see if the status has been up d ated  to 
    delivered. 
    7. If the remote system ad ministrator send s an AMIS messag e to the loc al 
    loop b ac k test mailb ox on your system, the loc al system send s a c op y of 
    the messag e to the 
    inc oming mailb ox of the remote user to ind ic ate the 
    message was rec eived. The loopback extension keeps a copy of the 
    messag e head er in its 
    outg oing mailb ox. 
    Message Delivery Connection Test
    To test a c onnec tion for the Messag e Delivery feature, send  a test messag e to the 
    intend ed rec ipient. If your telep hone number is in the same ad d ress rang e as the 
    intend ed rec ip ient, you may alternatively send a test messag e to yourself. Use 
    the following  p roc ed ure to test the Messag e Delivery feature.
    1. From your own extension, log  into the loc al Intuity system and  p ress   to 
    rec ord  a messag e for the intend ed  rec ip ient. When finished , p ress   to 
    ap p rove the messag e.
    2. When the system p rompts you for the extension, enter the messag e 
    d elivery p refix, if need ed ), followed  b y the c omp lete telep hone number 
    need ed  to reac h the rec ip ient, followed  b y  . 
    3. Press     to app rove the ad d ress and  send  the messag e at the first 
    ad ministered  interval.
    4. Wait a few minutes, then c hec k your mailb ox.
    nIf the messag e c ould  not b e delivered , you will have a new 
    messag e notifying  you that the messag e was und eliverab le. 
    Access your outgoing mailbox by pressing   and playing the 
    undeliverable messag e head er to find  out the reason the d elivery 
    attemp t failed . Dep end ing  on the error messag e, c orrec t the most 
    likely p rob lem. Verify the intend ed  rec ip ient’s ad d ress and

    nIf the loc al system suc c essfully dialed  the rec ip ient’s numb er, the 
    messag e status in your outg oing  mailb ox mig ht b e 
    delivered or 
    ac c essed, d ep ending  on whether the intend ed  rec ipient has 
    answered  the c all. If the messag e has not yet been delivered , 
    c hec k your mailb ox ag ain later to see if the status has b een 
    updated to 
    accessed, ind ic ating  a suc c essful messag e delivery.

    Ongoing Administration
    After you initially administer the AMIS analog  network and  p erform the tests, you 
    may need  to p erform ong oing  mac hine and sub sc rib er ad ministration tasks. This 
    sec tion c ontains p roc edures for up dating  the AMIS analog ad ministration and  
    inc lud es the following  top ic s:
    nEd uc ating  sub sc ribers
    nMaintaining  the AMIS network
    nMonitoring  log s and  traffic  rep orts
    nChanging mac hine information
    nDeleting  remote mac hine information
    nChanging subscriber
    nDeleting  remote sub sc rib ers
    Educating Subscribers
    A p rimary d uty of the system ad ministrator is to inform the sub sc rib er p op ulation 
    of AMIS analog  networking  and  messag e d elivery p refixes, valid  mac hine 
    numb ers to d ial, and  the other information nec essary to use the AMIS analog 
    network. Up d ate and  d istribute the temp late letter for the AMIS Analog  
    Networking  and  Messag e Delivery features that ap p ears in Appendix C, 
    Sub sc rib er Op eration. 
    Maintain the Network
    The system ad ministrator may need  to p erform p eriod ic  administration of the 
    AMIS analog  networking /message d elivery network as d esc rib ed  in the following  
    list: 
    nFor AMIS analog  networking, ad d  and  d elete loc al and  remote 
    sub sc rib ers and  mac hines as nec essary. 
    nFor message d elivery, ad d  and  delete remote telep hone numbers and  
    sub sc rib ers as nec essary. 
    nRead minister network p arameters if need ed , suc h as when numerous 
    remote ad ministered  sub sc rib ers are ad d ed  or if the Outc alling  feature is 
    ac tivated . 
    nTroub leshoot any AMIS-related  entries that ap p ear in the ad ministration 
    log. An “ A”  entry on the status line ind ic ates an entry. Refer to App end ix A, 
    Ad ministration Log  Entries, for a summary of AMIS analog networking 
    and  messag e d elivery log  entries, and  the p rob lem-resolution step s for 
    eac h.

    Monitor Logs and Traffic Reports
    The system administrator should display the administration log and traffic reports 
    freq uently to verify g ood  servic e, id entify p ossib le p rob lems, and  ensure system 
    sec urity.
    nExamine the ad ministration log  daily or whenever an “ A”  alarm ap p ears on 
    the status line. 
    nMonitor traffic  information p ertaining  to AMIS analog  networking  and  
    messag e d elivery activities.
    nRec ord  remote sub sc rib er names.
    nMonitor the outc alling  p ort use, whic h inc lud es AMIS analog networking  
    and /or messag e d elivery. If nec essary, inc rease the maximum numb er of 
    simultaneous ports as d esc rib ed  in this c hap ter. 
    Changing Remote AMIS Machine Information on
    the Intuity Platform
    Use the following  instruc tions to c hange information ad ministered  on a remote 
    AMIS mac hine on the Intuity platform.
    1. Starting  at the Intuity Ad ministration menu, shown in Fi g u re  5 - 1, selec t the 
    following  menu op tions:
    After you selec t the op tion, you see the AMIS Analog  Mac hine 
    Ad ministration sc reen as shown in Fig ure 5-6.
    2. Use   or   to move the c ursor to the field you need to change and 
    up d ate the information.
    You c an c hang e the value in any field  ac c ep t the Machine Name
     field . If 
    you need  to c hang e the name of the remote mac hine, refer to Renaming  a 
    Remote AMIS Mac hines in this c hap ter. Rememb er to use   (F2), 
    when available, to view op tions for the field s.
    3. When you finish c hang ing  remote mac hine information, p ress   
    (F8) then   (F3) to enter the information. 
    After you p ress the key, the system upd ates the information and  returns 
    you to the Machine Name
     field
    .

    NOTE:
    To enter information for another remote mac hine, enter the next 
    remote mac hine name over the p revious name. When you p ress 
     to move the c ursor to the next field , the information for the 
    previous machine clears from the sc reen.
    5. When you finish up d ating  remote mac hines, press   (F6) until you 
    return to the Networking  Ad ministration menu.
    Changing Remote AMIS Machine Information on
    the AUDIX Voice Messaging Feature Package
    Use the following  instruc tions to up date remote mac hine information on the 
    AUDIX Voic e Messag ing  feature p ac kag e.
    1. Select AUDIX Administration
     at the Intuity Ad ministration menu, shown in 
    Fi g u re  5 - 1. After you selec t the op tion, you see a b lank AUDIX Voic e 
    Messag ing  form.
    2. Enter change machine 
     at the p romp t. After you 
    enter the c ommand , you see the Mac hine Profile sc reen as shown in 
    Fi g u re  5 - 1 8.
    If you d o not know the names of the remote mac hines, use the list 
    machines
     c ommand  as d esc ribed  earlier in this c hap ter. When you enter 
    the c ommand  you see a list of all mac hines administered  on the system.
    NOTE:
    The mac hine name, typ e, loc ation, voic e ID, and  d efault c ommunity 
    fields are d isp lay only. You c annot c hang e the information in the 
    fields.
    3. Chang e the value in the fields you need  to c hang e. If you need  to c hang e 
    the name of the remote mac hine, refer to Renaming  a Remote AMIS 
    Mac hines in this c hap ter. 
    4. When you finish entering  remote mac hine information, p ress   (F3) to 
    save the information in the system d atab ase. You rec eive the following  
    c onfirmation messag e:

    5. Enter Exit
     to leave the Mac hine Profile sc reen and return to the Intuity 
    Ad ministration menu.
