2Remove all paper from Tray 1. 3Move the paper guides as though you were loading legal-size paper. 4Squeeze the lever and pull to extend the tray to legal size. 1 2 A4 LegalA4 Legal 5Tear off only the number of sheets needed for the banner (up to 20 sheets). 6Set the stack of pages in front of the printer. 7Slide the first sheet from the banner stack of pages over the Tray 1 handle. Printing on both sides of the paper (duplexing) Understanding the two-sided printing function The printer has a built-in duplex unit that lets you print on both sides of the paper automatically. This function is also known as two-sided printing or duplexing. Note: Automatic two-sided printing works only with plain paper in letter and A4 sizes. If you want to print two-sided documents on another size or type of paper, use the manual method. To print a two-sided copy: 1With a document open, click File ŒPrint. 2Click Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup. 3Click the Advanced tab. 4From the 2-Sided Printing area, select 2-Sided printing. 5A drop-down box features Automatic and Manual options. Select Automatic when you are printing on plain paper in letter or A4 sizes. If you are using a custom size or type of paper, select Manual. 6Select either Sideflip or Topflip. Sideflip is the setting most often used. 7The “Extend dry time” option allows extra drying time between sides when you are printing on both sides of the paper. The normal drying time of the Automatic 2-Sided Printing option affords enough time for the ink to dry on supported paper types in average air humidity. In conditions of high humidity, or if you find that the normal drying time does not allow the ink to dry completely, you should select Extend dry time. SelectTo 2-Sided PrintingPrint on both sides of the paper. AutomaticHave all documents printed on both sides of the paper. Note: To return to one-sided printing, clear the 2-Sided Printing option on the Advanced tab. ManualDuplex a print job manually. Printing on both sides of the paper (duplexing) manually If you want to print a two-sided (duplex) document on a size or type of paper other than plain letter- or A4-size paper, you must use the manual duplex method. This method involves printing the odd-numbered pages, then flipping and reloading the stack of paper to print the even-numbered pages on the other side of the sheets. 1With a document open, click File Œ Print. 2Click Properties, Preferences, Options or Setup. 3Click the Advanced tab. 4From the 2-Sided Printing area, select 2-Sided Printing. 5From the drop-down box, select Manual. 6The Print Instruction Page to Assist in Reloading item will be selected automatically. 7Click OK. 8The printer prints the odd-numbered pages and the instruction sheet, which describes how to flip and reload the paper. 9Following the instruction sheet, flip and reload the paper. 10The printer then prints the even-numbered pages on the reverse sides of the odd-numbered pages, completing the two-sided sheets. Changing printer settings Saving and deleting print settings 1With a document open, click File Œ Print. 2Click Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup. The Print Setup tab appears. 3Make necessary adjustments to any of the settings under the Print Setup tab, including those in the Paper Options, Orientation, Copies sections. 4From the Printing Preferences toolbar, click Profiles Œ Save your current settings. 5Click a radio button next to the number of the location where you want to save your settings, and then type a name for your settings in the selected box. Note: The first location contains Factory Default Settings, which cannot be changed or deleted. 6Click Save. Notes: To retrieve your saved print settings from the Profiles drop-down menu, click Restore a Profile, and select the settings from the list. To delete saved print settings from the Profiles drop-down menu, choose Delete Profiles. Select the radio button next to the setting you want to delete, and then click Delete. Resetting printer software to factory default settings For Windows Vista users 1Click Œ Control Panel ŒPrinters (under Hardware and Sound). 2Right-click the Lexmark 9500 Series icon. 3Click Printing Preferences. The Print Setup tab appears. 4From the Printing Preferences toolbar, click Profiles Œ Restore a profile Œ Factory Settings. 5Click OK. For Windows XP or Windows 2000 users 1Click Start ŒSettings ŒPrinters or Printers and Faxes. 2Right-click the Lexmark 9500 Series icon. 3Click Printing Preferences. Understanding the Print Files Options menu The Print Files Options menu is for printing files (rather than photos) from a memory card or flash drive. The menu lets you specify the paper size and paper type for the documents you want to print. To use the Print Files function, your printer must be connected to a computer, and both the printer and computer must be on. 1Insert a memory card or flash drive containing document files into the printer. The following file types are supported: .doc (Microsoft Word) .xls (Microsoft Excel) .ppt (Microsoft Powerpoint) .pdf (Adobe Portable Document Format) .rtf (Rich Text Format) .docx (Microsoft Word Open Document Format) .xlsx (Microsoft Excel Open Document Format) .pptx (Microsoft Powerpoint Open Document Format) .wps (Microsoft Works) .wpd (WordPerfect) 2After the memory device is detected, press . 3Press to enter the Paper Handling menu. 4Use the control panel buttons to select a paper size and paper type. 5Press to save your settings temporarily. Resetting factory default settings Resetting all settings This method clears all status pages, such as Fax Send and Receive History, and all information you entered, such as Phone Book or Speed Dial lists. 1Turn the printer off. 2Press and hold down and , and then press to turn the printer on. Resetting only menu settings This method does not clear any information entered by you, such as Phone Book or Speed Dial lists. 1From the control panel, press or repeatedly until Maintenance is highlighted. 2Press . 3Press or repeatedly until Reset Defaults is highlighted. 4Press . The following message appears: Reset all Menu Default settings to factory settings? Note: Items such as phone lists, time, date, country, etc. will not be reset. 5Press . 6If your printer is connected to a network, the following message appears: Also reset all network settings to factory defaults? 7Press or to select Yes or No. 8Press . Note: If you choose to reset the network settings, you must go through the network setup process again to rejoin your network. Saving settings In a settings menu, an * appears next to the default setting. To change the setting: 1From the control panel, press or repeatedly to choose Copy, Photo, Print Files, Fax, Scan, Setup, or Maintenance. 2Press . 3Press or , or press or repeatedly to choose the setting you want. 4Press to select each setting you want. Note: In Copy mode, pressing also shows a preview. 5Press while Yes is highlighted, or press repeatedly to save all temporary settings and return to the main menu. An * appears next to the saved settings. Note: The printer reverts to the default setting after two minutes of inactivity or if the printer is turned off. The Photo settings will not time out after two minutes of inactivity or turning off the power, but they do return to the default settings when a memory card or flash drive is removed. Printing using Bluetooth technology Inserting a Bluetooth adapter 1Insert the Bluetooth adapter into the PictBridge port the front of the printer. MS XD SD/MMC CF/MD PictBridge Note: A converter cable may be necessary if your Bluetooth adapter does not fit directly into the port. 2Wait for the printer to recognize that a Bluetooth adapter is inserted. 3If the printer does not read the Bluetooth adapter, remove and reinsert it. Warning—Potential Damage: Do not touch cables, the Bluetooth adapter, or the printer in the area shown while actively printing from the Bluetooth-enabled device. A loss of data can occur. Also, do not remove the Bluetooth adapter while actively printing from the Bluetooth-enabled device. MS X D SD /MM C C F/MD PictB ridge Note: The printer recognizes one active media device at a time. If you insert more than one media device, a message appears on the display prompting you to designate the device you want the printer to recognize. Printing using Bluetooth You can print photos from a Bluetooth-enabled device such as a camera phone using a Bluetooth adapter. 1Load photo paper with the glossy or printable side facing down. (If you are not sure which side is the printable side, see the instructions that came with the paper.) 2Make sure that the Bluetooth Enable and Discovery Mode menu items on your printer control panel are set to On. For more information, see “Setting the Bluetooth mode” on page 109. 3Insert a Bluetooth adapter into the PictBridge port on the front of the printer. M S XD SD/MMC CF/MD PictBridge Note: A Bluetooth adapter is sold separately. 4Once the printer detects the Bluetooth adapter, the following message appears on the printer display for five seconds: Bluetooth Dongle Connected. Notes: To prevent smudging or scratching, avoid touching the printed surface with your fingers or sharp objects. For best results, remove each printed sheet individually from the paper exit tray, and allow the prints to dry at least 24 hours before stacking, displaying, or storing. If a Bluetooth adapter is removed, the printer detects that it is missing and the following message appears on the printer display for five seconds: Bluetooth Dongle Disconnected.
