Replacing Consumables 167 Replacing the Waste Toner Bottle When the waste toner bottle becomes full, the message WASTE TONER FULL/REPLACE BOTTLE appears in the message window. The printer stops and will not start again until the waste toner bottle is replaced. 1Open the printer’s front cover. 2Turn the dial on the waste toner bottle counterclockwise until it is in the unlock position. Replacing Consumables 168 3Open the left and right handles of the waste toner bottle. 4Grab the left and right handles of the waste toner bottle, and then slowly pull out the bottle. Be careful since some waste toner may spill if the lock is closed when the waste toner bottle is removed. 5Remove the new waste toner bottle from its packaging. Insert the used waste toner bottle into the plastic bag included in the box, and then box it up. Note Dispose of the used waste toner bottle according to your local regulations. Replacing Consumables 170 8Close the front cover. If the waste toner bottle is not fully inserted or if the dial is not locked, the front cover cannot be closed. Replacing the Transfer Roller When the time to replace the transfer roller is reached, the message TRANS.ROLLER/END OF LIFE appears. Printing can continue even after this message appears; however, since the print quality is reduced, the transfer roller should be replaced immediately. When replacing the transfer roller, also replace the ozone filter. A new ozone filter is included with the new transfer roller. Replacing Consumables 171 2While pushing the levers to the inside, move the roller presser toward you. 3While continuing to press the levers, remove the transfer roller. 4Prepare a new transfer roller. 5While pressing the levers, insert the shaft of the transfer roller into the bearings. Replacing Consumables 174 Replacing the Transfer Belt Unit When the time to replace the transfer belt unit is reached, the message TRANS. BELT/END OF LIFE appears. Printing can continue even after this message appears; however, since the print quality is reduced, the trans- fer belt unit should be replaced immediately. 1Open the printer’s front cover. 2Remove the print unit and waste toner bottle. For details on removing the print unit or waste toner bottle, refer to “Replacing a Print Unit” on page 161 or “Replac- ing the Waste Toner Bot- tle” on page 167. Before opening the right side cover, fold up Tray 1. 7On the left side, pull to the right the blue shutter lever for the transfer belt unit.
