Recognizing Radio Frequency Interference The electronic key system contains incidental radio frequency generating circuitry and, if not installed and used properly, may cause interference to radio and television reception. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A computing device pursuant to Subpart J of Part 15 of FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against such interference when operated in a commercial environment. Operation of this equipment in a residential area may cause interference to radio and television reception; in which case the user is encouraged to take whatever measures may be required to correct the interference. If this equipment does cause interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: Reorient the television or radio’s receiving antenna, and/or relocate the DSU, the individual telephone stations, and the radio or TV with respect to each other. If necessary, the user should consult the manufacturer or an experienced radio/television technician for additional suggestions. The user may find the following booklet prepared by the Federal Communications Commission helpful: “How to Identify and Resolve Radio-TV Interference Problems.” This booklet is available from the Government Printing Office, Washington D.C. 20402. Stock No. 004-000-00345-4. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits of a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense. This digital apparatus does not exceed the (Class A) limits for radio noise emissions from digital apparatus set out in the Radio Interference Regulations of the Canadian Department of Communications. CAUTION Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. Determining The Ringer Equivalence Number The REN of each line is 1.3B. The FCC requires the installer to determine the total REN for each line, and record it at the equipment. 3.1 Using Chapter Three Since Chapter 3 deals only with the programming of the system, each programming step includes only a brief explanation of that feature. Therefore, before you begin programming the system, familiarize yourself with all of the system’s features that are discussed in Appendix A. By doing so, you can be certain that you are programming what the customer wants. NOTE: Prior to taking any programming action, determine all desired parameters and requirements. Record this data on the programming reference tables provided in Chapter 4. 3.2 Understanding System Programming While the Digital Telephone System offers many functional possibilities, it is your programming that determines the system’s operation. You can program the system in two ways: using a telephone, or using a Video Display Terminal (VDT). 3.2.1 Using A Telephone To Program The System Perform Class of Service configuration programming from station port 10 or station port 12. The system will not accept programming commands from any other station port in the system. For best programming results, use an LCD speakerphone and a DSS/BLF console at station port 11 or 13 to see which features are assigned to individual stations. While you can install any non-LCD digital telephone and use it for programming, visual feedback of the programming operations will not be available. You must always keep the handset of the LCD speakerphone on-hook while you use this telephone to program the system. NOTE: Be sure the system is not in the night transfer (of ringing) mode of operation when you perform the programming steps. IMI66–107Digital Telephone System System Programming 3 – 7
3.2.2 Supporting DigiTech Telephones (Revision I And Later) There are several items that you need to consider when connecting revision I and later DigiTech telephones to the digital telephone system: ·While the system software cartridge (product code Snnnn) with software release 11A and later supports the use of all DigiTech telephones regardless of their revision letter, any systems with a software release of 9 or earlier will not support the revision I and later telephones. In other words, whenever a system includes revision I or later telephones, be sure that the system software cartridge has a software release revision of 11A or later. ·Always program station ports to provide ringing line preference to revision I and later DigiTech telephones (and to allImpacttelephones) that are connected there. This action is necessary before the orange LED feature can become active. The orange status light indicates a ringing line to distinguish it from lines that are in use or on hold.
