1Connecting the Machine to a Telephone 
Line and TelephoneThis section describes how to connect the machine to the telephone lines and se-
lect the line type.
Connecting the Telephone Line
To connect the machine to a telephone line, use a snap-in modular type connector.
Important
❒Make sure the connector is the correct type before you start.

Selecting the Line Type
Select the line type to which the machine is connected. There are two types: tone
and pulse dial.
Select the line type using Administrator Tools.

This chapter describes user tools in the System Settings menu. For details on
how to access System Settings, see Accessing User Tools.
General Features
This section describes the user tools in the General Features menu under System
Settings.
Default settings are shown in bold type.
❖Prog/Change/Del User Text
You can register text phrases you often use when specifying settings, such as
“.com and “Regards.
You can register up to 40 entries.
Program/Change:
ASelect [System Settings] using {U} or {T}, and then press the {OK} key.
BSelect [General Features] using {U} or {T}, and then press the {OK} key.
CSelect [Prog/Change/Del User Text] using {U} or {T}, and then press the {OK}
key.
DSelect [Program/Change] to program/change text phrases using {U} or {T},
and then press the {OK} key. 
ESelect [*Not Programmed] using {U} or {T}, and then press the {OK} key.
To change programmed text phrases, select the text phrases you want to
change/delete.
FEnter the text phrases you want to program, and then press the {OK} key.
GPress the {User Tools/Counter} key.
Delete:
ASelect [System Settings] using {U} or {T}, and then press the {OK} key.
BSelect [General Features] using {U} or {T}, and then press the {OK} key.
CSelect [Prog/Change/Del User Text] using {U} or {T}, and then press the {OK}
key.
DSelect [Delete] using {U} or {T}, and then press the {OK} key.
ESelect the text phrases you want to delete using {U} or {T}, and then press
the {OK} key.
FPress [Yes].
To cancel deleting a text phrase, press [No].
GPress the {User Tools/Counter} key.

❖Panel Key Sound
The beeper (key tone) sounds when a key is pressed.
The default setting is On.
❖Warm-up Beeper (copier)
You can have the beeper sound when the machine becomes ready to copy af-
ter leaving Energy Saver mode, or when the power is turned on.
The default setting is On.
❖Copy Count Display
The copy counter can be set to show the number of copies made (count up) or
the number of copies yet to be made (count down).
The default setting is Up.
❖Function Priority
Specify the mode to be displayed immediately after the operation switch is
turned on, or when System Reset mode is turned on.
The default setting is Copier.
❖Print Priority
Gives print priority to the mode displayed.
The default setting is Display mode.
When [Interleave] is selected, the current print job will be interrupted after a
maximum of five sheets.
When the optional Internal Tray 2 is installed on the machine, you can specify
an output tray for document.
❖Output:Copier (copier)
Specify a tray to which documents are delivered.
The default setting is Internal Tray 1.
❖Output:Facsimile (facsimile)
Specify a tray to which documents are delivered.
The default setting is Internal Tray 1.
❖Output:Printer (printer)
Specify a tray to which documents are delivered.
The default setting is Internal Tray 1.
The output trays set on the printer driver have priority over the output tray
specified above.
❖Screen Contrast (Display Contrast)
You can adjust the brightness of the display.
The default setting is 4 (the halfway/medium setting).
❖Key Repeat
Set whether or not to repeat the functions of the {U}, {T}, {Lighter}, and
{Darker} keys when those keys are pressed and held down.
The default setting is Normal.

❖Measurement Unit
You can switch the measurement between mm and inch.
The default setting is mm.

❒If the Panel Key Sound setting is Off, the beeper does not sound, whatever
the Warm-up Beeper setting.

2Tray Paper Settings
This section describes the user tools in the Tray Paper Settings menu under Sys-
tem Settings.
Default settings are shown in bold type.
Important
❒If the specified paper size differs from the actual size of the paper loaded in
the paper tray, a misfeed might occur because the correct paper size was not
detected.
❖Paper Size: Tray 1-4
Select the size of the paper loaded in the paper tray 1.
If the paper size set for the selector in the paper tray is different to the paper
size for this setting, the paper size of the selector has priority.
If you load paper of a size not indicated on the paper size selector in the paper
tray, set the selector to p.
Type 1
The paper sizes you can set for Tray 1 are as follows:
A3L, A4K, A4L, A5K, B4 JISL, B5 JISK, B5 JISL, 11×17L,

❖Printer Bypass Paper Size
Specify the size of the paper in the bypass tray when using the printer func-
tion. You can select paper size from Custom size or Regular size.
 The paper sizes you can set for bypass tray are as follows:
Auto Detect, A3L, A4K, A4L, A5K, A5L, B4 JISL, B5 JISK, B5 JISL,
C6 EnvL, C5 EnvL, DL EnvL, 11×17L, 8
1/2×14L, 81/2×13L,

You can specify a custom size as follows:
90.0 to 297.0 mm (3.55 to 11.69 inch) vertically, and 148.0 to 600.0 mm (5.83
to 23.62 inch) horizontally.
The default setting is A4L.
Under the copier function, specify a custom paper size of 90.0 - 305.0 mm
long and 148.0 - 457.2 mm wide.
❖Paper Type: Bypass Tray
Sets the display so you can see what type of paper is loaded in the bypass tray.
 The paper types you can set for the bypass tray are as follows:
No Display (Plain Paper), Recycled Paper, Special Paper, Colour Paper,
Letterhead, Label Paper, Thick Paper, OHP (Transparency), Preprinted Pa-
per, Prepunched Paper, Bond Paper, Cardstock.
The default setting is No Display (Plain Paper).
Paper types you can set in the bypass tray for machines with the copy func-
tion only are plain paper, thick paper and OHP.

❖Paper Type: Tray 1-4
Sets the display so you can see what type of paper is loaded in the each paper
tray. The print function uses this information to automatically select the pa-
per tray.
 The paper types you can set are as follows:
No Display (Plain Paper), Recycled Paper, Special Paper, Colour Paper,
Letterhead, Preprinted Paper, Prepunched Paper, Bond Paper, Cardstock
The default setting for Paper Type is No Display (Plain Paper).
The default setting for APS is On.
The default setting for Duplex is On (Type 2 only).
When paper of the same type and size is loaded in two different paper trays
and you want to specify tray for 2 Sided Copy and tray for 1 Sided Copy,
specify the upper tray for 2 Sided Copy. If one of the trays is specified as the
default in Paper Tray Priority, assign 2 Sided Copy to that tray.
A   appears next to the paper tray if [Off] is selected in [APS].
[APS] can only be selected for the copier function if [No Display (Plain Paper)]
and [Recycled Paper] are selected. If [No] is selected, Auto Paper Select is not
valid for the tray.
❖Ppr Tray Priority:Copier (copier)
Specify the tray to supply paper for output.
The default setting is Tray 1.
❖Ppr Tray Priority:Fax (facsimile)
Specify the tray to supply paper for output.
The default setting is Tray 1.
❖Ppr Tray Priority:Printer (printer)
Specify the tray to supply paper for output.
The default setting is Tray 1.
