To evaluate the print quality report
1.Check the ink levels shown on the page. If a cartridge shows very low ink levels and
you find the print quality unacceptable, consider replacing that ink cartridge. Print
quality typically deteriorates as cartridges run out of ink.
NOTE: If the print quality report is not legible, you can check the estimated ink
levels from the control panel or HP Photosmart Software.
NOTE: Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning
purposes only. When you receive a low-ink warning message, consider having a
replacement cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need
to replace the ink cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable.
    2. Look at the large text above the color bl ocks. The type should be sharp and clear.
Figure 12-1 Sample text area - expected result
    • If the type is jagged, align the printer, and then print this diagnostic page again. Figure 12-2 Sample text area - jagged text
    • If the text is uneven, streaked, or smeared, clean the printhead, and then printthis diagnostic page again.

3.Look at the demonstration picture, on the left side of the page below the large text.
The picture should be sharp and clear.

NOTE: If cleaning the printhead and aligning the printer do not solve this print
quality issue, contact HP support for service.
    • If the picture has a smear or scrape, check to see if the paper is wrinkled. Insert
clean, wrinkle-free paper, and then print this diagnostic page again.

NOTE: If you still encounter this issue after inserting clean, wrinkle-free
paper, contact HP support for service.
    4. Look at the adjacent yellow and magenta color blocks, below the large text. The
division between the two colors should be sharp and clean, with no blurriness or area
    of mixed color.

    5. Look at the labeled color blocks above th e color bars. The color blocks should match
the color listed immediately below and should not contain any streaks.
If any of the labeled color bl ocks are streaked, or if the co lor of the block is different
from the name (for instance, if the block labeled green looks blue), clean the
printhead, and then print this diagnostic page again.

    6. Look at the color bars at the bottom of the page. The bars should be solid and extend
all the way across the page.

If any of the color bars are streaked with white, lighter on one side, or contain one or
more streaks of a different color, clean the printhead, and then print this diagnostic

If you do not see any defects on the print quality report, then the printing system is working
correctly. There is no reason to replace supplies or have the product serviced, because
they are functioning properly. If you still have a print quality problem, here are some other
    things you can check:
    • Check the paper.
    • Check the print settings.
    • Make sure your image ha s sufficient resolution.
    • If the problem seems confined to a band near the edge of your printout, use the
software you installed with the product or another software application to rotate the
image 180 degrees. The problem might not appear on the other end of the print.
