Cleaning the Print Drum CautionOnly perform this procedure when it has been determined that a repetitive defect is unacceptable and the only other solution is replacing the print drum. Many, but not all, repetitive defects can be removed using the following procedure. Defects that appear as light spots in dark areas of print are more likely to be corrected by this procedure than dark spots in unprinted areas. However, if the procedure is done incorrectly or without proper care, the print drum can be permanently damaged. This procedure requires the following items: ·A print sample showing the repetitive defect ·A clean, flat surface to work on ·The cleaning cloth that is supplied with the coating kit ·Isopropyl alcohol 1Press the power switch to the standby position (button out). 2When the fan turns off (5 minutes), unplug the printer. WARNING!To avoid potential electrical shock, make sure the printer is unplugged before continuing this procedure. CautionDo not expose the print drum to direct light. Exposure to light can permanently damage the print drum. 3Press the top cover release button, then open the top cover. 4Locate the print drum lock lever at the left edge of the print drum, then pull it toward you. CautionMake sure you have a clean work area free of sharp or rough objects that may damage the print drum. To avoid damaging the print drum, remove all jewelry and watches before continuing. Touching the print drum with these items or laying the print drum on sharp or rough objects can scratch the print drum, causing permanent damage. 7-34 Solving Printer ProblemsEN

If necessary, rotate the print drum by turning the gear on the right side of the print drum surface (shown on the left in the illustration) with your fingers to locate the defect. 7 Solving Printer Problems ENSolving Printer Problems 7-35
