Thissectionprovidesinformationaboutinstallingadditionalinternalharddiskdrives.
CAUTION:Ahot-pluggabledevicecanrequireinteractionwiththeoperatingserverbeforethe
devicecanbesafelyinstalledintotheserver.Verifythattheoperatingsystemsupportsinstalling
diskdriveswhiletheoperatingsystemisrunning.Iftheoperatingsystemdoesnotsupportthis
feature,shutdowntheoperatingsystembeforeattemptingthisprocedure.Failuretoobserve
thiscautionwillresultinsystemfailure.

1.Powerofftheserveranddisconnectthepowerandexternalcables.
2.Removethefrontbezelandcover.(See“RemovingandReplacingServerCoversandBezels”

3.Ifaremovablemediadrivehasnotpreviouslybeeninstalledintheserver,thedriveslotis
coveredwithaDVDdrivefiller.RemovetheDVDdrivefiller.
4.Slidethedriveintothedrivebayuntilitstopsslidingandtheretainingclipsonbothsides
ofthedrivesnapintoplace(Figure3-22).
5.ConnecttheIDEcableonthebackofthedrive(Figure3-22).
6.Replacethecoverandbezel.(See“RemovingandReplacingServerCoversandBezels”
(page52).)
7.Reconnectthepowerandexternalcables.
8.Turnontheserver.

followingairflowguides:
•Theprocessorairflowguideensuresthatthepropervolumeofairforcoolingthedual
processormodulepowerpods,processormodules,andvoltageregulatormodulesflows
overthesecomponents.Youmustremovetheprocessorairflowguidebeforeremovingor
installingadualprocessormodule.
•Thememoryairflowguideensuresthatthepropervolumeofairflowsoverthememory
DIMMstocoolthem.ToaccessmemoryDIMMsandsockets,youmustremovethememory
airflowguide.
NOTE:Airflowsthroughtheserverfromfronttoback.
