    ToconfiguretheiLOMPusingDHCPandDNS,followthesesteps:
    1.Obtainthefactory-setDNSnamefromthetoe-tagontheserver.TheDNSnameis14
    characterslong,consistingofthelettersmpfollowedbythe12charactersoftheMACaddress,
    forexample:mp0014c29c064f.ThisaddressisassignedtotheiLOMPcard.TheiLOMP
    cardhasauniqueMACaddressthatidentifiesthecardonthenetwork.
    2.ConnecttheLANcablefromtheservertoanactivenetworkport.
    3.ApplyACpowertotheserver(ifnotalreadydone).
    4.Openabrowser,Telnet,orSSHclientandenterthedefaulthostname.TheiLOMPLogIn
    windowopens.
    ConfiguringtheiLOMPLANUsingARPPing
    TheAddressResolutionProtocol(ARP)andPacketInternetGrouper(Ping)utilityusesARP
    packetstoping,ordiscover,adeviceonthelocalnetworksegment.TheIPaddressyouassign
    totheservermustusethesamenetworksegment,orsubnet,asthecomputerassigningthe
    address.ARPdoesnotworkacrossroutedorswitchednetworks.
    ARPPingoperationalissuesincludethefollowing:
    •YoucanuseARPPingregardlessofthestatusofDHCP,unlessanIPaddresshaseverbeen
    acquiredusingDHCP
    •WhenARPPingissuccessful,DHCPstatusisdisabled
    •SomeDHCPserveroptionscancausetheapparentissuanceofARPPingtotheiLOMP
    whichnegatestheDHCP/DDNSmethod
    •ThePCandtheservermustbeonthesamephysicalsubnet
    •Whenanewserverisfirstbooted,DHCPisautomaticallyavailable(factory-setdefault);
    butARPPingdoesnotstartuntilthreeminutesaftertheiLOMPisbooted.Thisappliesto
    everysubsequentbootoftheiLOMPuntilanIPaddressisobtainedbyDHCPorhasbeen
    assignedusingtheLCcommand,orARPPingsucceeds
    TherearetwowaystousetheARPPingutility:
    •ConnectaPCtothenetworkthatisonthesamephysicalsubnetastheserverandrunthe
    ARPPingcommandsfromthePC
    •Locateanexistingserveronthenetwork,logintoit,andruntheARPPingcommandsfrom
    theserver

    2.VerifythatanactiveLANcableonthelocalsubnetisconnectedtotheiLOMPLANport
    ontheserver.
    3.AccessaPConthesamephysicalsubnetastheserver.
    4.OpenaDOSwindowonthePC.
    5.AttheDOSprompt,enterarp -stoassigntheIPaddresstotheiLOMACaddress.
    arp -s
    Forexample:

    6.AttheDOSprompt,enterpingfollowedbytheIPaddresstoverifythattheiLOMPLAN
    portisconfiguredwiththeappropriateIPaddress.ThedestinationaddressistheIPaddress
    thatismappedtotheMPMACaddress.PerformthistaskfromthePCthathastheARP
    tableentry.

    7.ConnecttotheiLOMPLANusingthisIPaddress.

    ConfiguringtheiLOMPLANUsingtheRS-232SerialPort
    ThefollowingprocedureshowshowtoconfiguretheiLOMPLANusingtheRS-232serialport.
    IMPORTANT:DonotconfigureduplicateIPaddressesondifferentserverswithinthesame
    network.DuplicateserverIPaddressesconflictandtheserverscannotconnecttothenetwork.
    TheLCcommandenablesyoutoconfigureanIPaddress,hostname,subnetmask,andgateway
    address.
    IMPORTANT:EnsureyouhaveaconsoleconnectionthroughtheRS-232serialportoranetwork
    connectionthroughtheLANtoaccesstheiLOMPandusetheLCcommand.
    ToassignastaticIPaddressusingtheLCcommand,followthesesteps:

    							1.Ensuretheemulationsoftwaredeviceisproperlyconfigured.Theterminalemulationdevice
    runssoftwarethatinterfaceswiththeserver.Thesoftwareemulatesconsoleoutputasit
    wouldappearonanASCIIterminalscreenanddisplaysitonaconsoledevicescreen.
    2.Toensuretheemulationsoftwareiscorrectlyconfigured,verifythefollowing:
    a.Verifythatthecommunicationsettingsareconfiguredasfollows:
    •8/none(parity)
    •9600baud
    •None(receive)
    •None(transmit)
    b.Verifythattheterminaltypeisconfiguredappropriately.Supportedterminaltypesare
    asfollows:
    •hpterm
    •vt100
    •vt100+
    •vt-utf8
    IMPORTANT:Donotusehptermandvt100terminaltypesatthesametime.
    Therearemanydifferentemulationsoftwareapplications.Consultthehelpsectionofyour
    emulationsoftwareapplicationforinstructionsonhowtoconfigurethesoftwareoptions.
    3.UseTable3-5todeterminetherequiredconnectioncomponentsandtheportsusedtoconnect
    theservertotheconsoledevice.
    4.Connectthecables.
    a.ConnecttheDB-9endoftheRS-232serialportfemale-to-femalecabletotheconsole
    RS-232serialport.
    b.ConnecttheotherendoftheDB-9female-to-femalecabletotheconsoledevice.
    5.Starttheemulationsoftwareontheconsoledevice.
    6.LogintotheiLOMP.See“LoggingIntotheiLOMP”(page95).
    7.AttheMPMainMenu,enterCMandpressEntertoselectcommandmode.
    8.Atthecommandmodeprompt,enterLSandpressEnter.Thescreendisplaysthedefault
    LANconfigurationvalues.Writedownthedefaultvaluesorlogtheinformationtoafile
    forfuturetroubleshooting.
    9.UsetheLCcommandtodisableDHCP.
    a.FromtheLCcommandmenu,enterDandpressEnter.
    b.FollowtheinstructionsonthescreentochangetheDHCPstatusfromEnabledto
    Disabled.
    c.EnterXD -RtoresettheiLOMP.
    10.UsetheLCcommandtoenterinformationfortheIPaddress,host,subnetmask,gateway
    parameters,andsoon.
    11.EnterXD -RtoresettheiLOMP.
    12.AftertheiLOMPresets,logintotheiLOMPagainandenterCMattheMP>prompt.

    Forgreatersecurityandreliability,HPrecommendsthatiLOMPmanagementtrafficbeona
    separatededicatedmanagementnetworkandthatonlyadministratorsbegrantedaccesstothat
    network.Thisnotonlyimprovesperformancebyreducingtrafficloadacrossthemainnetwork,
    italsoactsasthefirstlineofdefenseagainstsecurityattacks.Aseparatenetworkenables
    administratorstophysicallycontrolwhichserversareconnectedtothenetwork.
    HPalsostronglyrecommendsthatyoumodifythedefaultsettingsduringtheinitialloginsession
    anddeterminethesecurityaccessrequiredandwhatuseraccountsandprivilegesareneeded.
    Createlocalaccountsorusedirectoryservicestocontroluseraccess.See“ModifyingUser
    AccountsandDefaultPassword”(page96).
    SecurityAccessSettings
    CAUTION:WhenDHCPisenabled,thesystemisvulnerabletosecurityrisksbecauseanyone
    canaccesstheiLOMPuntilyouchangethedefaultusernameandpassword.
    HPstronglyrecommendsyouassignusergroupsandrightsbeforeproceeding.
    Determinethesecurityaccessrequiredanduseraccountsandprivilegesneeded.TheiLOMP
    providesoptionstocontroluseraccess.Selectoneofthefollowingoptionstopreventunauthorized
    accesstotheiLOMP:
    •Changethedefaultusernameandpassword.See“ModifyingUserAccountsandDefault
    Password”(page96).
    •Createlocalaccounts.Youcanstoreupto19usernamesandpasswordstomanageiLOMP
    access.Thisisidealforsmallenvironmentssuchaslabsandsmall-to-mediumsized
    businesses.
    •Usedirectoryservices.UsethecorporatedirectorytomanageiLOMPuseraccess.Thisis
    idealforenvironmentswithalargenumberoffrequentlychangingusers.Ifyouplantouse
    directoryservices,HPrecommendsleavingatleastonelocalaccountenabledasanalternate
    methodofaccess.
