VerifyingSitePreparation Verifyingsitepreparationisanessentialfactorofasuccessfulserverinstallationandincludes thefollowingtasks. 1.GatherLANinformationanddeterminethetwoseparateIPaddressesfortheiLOMPLAN andthesystemLAN. 2.Establishamethodtoconnecttotheserverconsole. 3.Verifyelectricalrequirementsandensurethatgroundingspecificationsandpower requirementshavebeenmet. 4.Validateserverphysicalspacerequirements. 5.Confirmenvironmentalrequirements. InspectingtheShippingContainersforDamage HPshippingcontainersprotecttheircontentsundernormalshippingconditions.Afterthe equipmentarrives,carefullyinspecteachcartonforsignsofshippingdamage.Shippingdamage constitutesmoderatetoseveredamage,suchaspuncturesinthecorrugatedcarton,crushed boxes,orlargedents.Normalwearorslightdamagetothecartonisnotconsideredshipping damage.Ifyoufindshippingdamagetothecarton,contactyourHPcustomerservice representativeimmediately. UnpackingtheServer Tounpackanon-rackedserver,followthesesteps. NOTE:HPrecommendstheuseofalifter,suchasaRonICompanymodel17000SP400lifting device,whenmovinganon-rackedserver. 1.Usetheinstructionsprintedontheoutsidetopflapofthecarton;removethebandingand theoutercartonfromtheserverpallet. 2.Removeallinneraccessorycartonsandthetopfoamcushions,leavingonlytheserver. IMPORTANT:Inspecteachcartonforshippingdamageasyouunpacktheserver. CheckingtheInventory ThesalesorderpackingsliplistsalloftheequipmentshippedfromHP.Usethispackingslipto verifythatalloftheequipmenthasarrived. UnpackingandInspectingtheServer51
NOTE:Toidentifyeachitembypartnumber,seethesalesorderpackingslip. ReturningDamagedEquipment Iftheequipmentisdamaged,contactyourHPcustomerservicerepresentativeimmediately.The servicerepresentativeinitiatesappropriateactionthroughthetransportcarrierorthefactory andassistsyouinreturningtheequipment. UnloadingtheServerwithaLifter WARNING!Usecautionwhenusingalifter.Becauseoftheweightoftheserver,youmust centertheserveronthelifterforksbeforeliftingitoffthepallettoavoidinjury. Tounloadtheserverfromthepalletusingalifter,followthesesteps: 1.Unpacktheserver. 2.Unrollthebottomcorrugatedtraycorrespondingtothesideonwhichthelifterwillbe placed,andslidetheserverasclosetothatedgeofthepalletaspossible. 3.Breakoffanyfoampackagingwhichcouldpreventthelifterfrombeingfullyinsertedunder theserver. Donotremovethefoampackagingfromthecornersoftheserver.Thisfoamisrequiredto elevatetheserverandenabletheforksoftheliftertobeplacedundertheserver. 4.Insertthelifterforksundertheserver. 5.Carefullyrollthelifterforwarduntilitisfullyagainstthesideoftheserver. 6.Slowlyraisetheserveroffthepalletuntilitclearsthepalletcushions. 7.Carefullyrollthelifterandserverawayfromthepallet.Donotraisetheserveranyhigher thannecessarywhenmovingitovertotherack. InstallingAdditionalComponents Thissectiondescribeshowtoinstallservercomponentsthatarenotinstalledbeforedelivery. RemovingandReplacingServerCoversandBezels Toupgrade,remove,orreplacemostservercomponents,youmustfirstremovethecoversfrom theserverchassis.Thissectionexplainshowtoremoveandreplacethecoversforbothrackand pedestal-mountedconfigurations. WARNING!Donotremovetheservercoverwithoutfirstturningtheserveroffandunplugging thepowercordfromtheoutletorpowerprotectiondeviceunlessyouareonlyreplacinga hot-swappablefan.Alwaysreplacethecoverbeforeturningtheserveron. Rack-MountedServer Toaccesstheinternalcomponentsonarack-mountedserver,pulltheserveroutontotherail guidesandremovethetopcover. AccessingaRack-MountedServer HP9000rp3410andrp3440serversaredesignedtoberackmounted.Thefollowingprocedure explainshowtogainaccesstoaserverthatismountedinanapprovedrack.Forslideinstallation 52InstallingtheSystem

ExtendtheServerFromtheRack NOTE:Ensurethatthereisenougharea(approximately1.5meters{4.5ft.})tofullyextendthe serveroutthefronttoworkonit.
