    DIMMsinamodelA7136Bserver)ofmemorymustbeinstalledinaHP9000rp3410server.
    •Maximummemoryis6GB.
    •AminimumoftwoDIMMs(onepair)isrequiredinthemodelA7136Aserver.
    •AminimumoffourDIMMs(onequad)isrequiredinthemodelA7136Bserver.
    •AllDIMMswithinaquadmustbeidentical.
    rp3440MemoryConfiguration
    TheHP9000rp3440supportsDDRSDRAMDIMMswithECCandchipspareprotection.This
    serverhas12DIMMslots,butmaximumsystemmemoryis32GBduetocoolinglimitations.
    Memorymustbeinstalledasquads(groupoffour).Thisenablesmemoryconfigurationsoffour,
    eight,ortwelveDIMMs.Thus,therp3440servermustincludeaminimumof1GBandcan
    includeupto24GBofmemoryincombinationsof256MB,512MB,1GB,and2GBDIMMs,or
    32GBofmemoryconsistingofeight4GBDIMMs.DifferentsizeDIMMscanbeinstalledinthe
    server(exceptwhen4GBDIMMsareused),butallfourDIMMsinaquadmustbeidentical.
    NOTE:Thereisonlyoneconfigurationof4GPDIMMsthatissupported:two(2)quadsof4
    GPDIMMs.Youcannotmixonequadof4GBDIMMswithanyotherquads.
    MemoryLoadingRules
    •DIMMsmustbeinstalledinserverloadsequence(thefirstDIMMmustbeinthefirstslot,
    thesecondDIMMmustbeinthesecondslot,andsoon).
    •Minimummemoryis1GB(4x256MB).
    •Maximummemoryis32GB(8x4GBinstalledinthefirsteightslots—theremainingslots
    mustremainemptyif4GBDIMMsareinstalled).
    •MemoryDIMMsmustbeinstalledingroupsoffour(quads).
    •AllDIMMswithinaquadmustbeidentical.
    Thememorysubsystemsupportschipsparefunctionality.ChipspareenablesanentireSDRAM
    chiponaDIMMtobebypassed(logicallyreplaced)intheeventthatamulti-biterrorisdetected
    onthatSDRAM.
    Inordertousethechipsparefunctionality,onlyDIMMsbuiltwithx4SDRAMpartsareused,
    andtheseDIMMsmustbeloadedinquads(twoDIMMspermemorycell,loadedinthesame
    locationineachmemorycell).
    SystemFirmwareRequirements
    Ifyouareusing4GBDIMMsinaHP9000rp3440server,systemfirmwaremustbegreaterthan
    revision45.10.UsetheBCHFVcommand,ortheiLOMPSRcommandtodisplaythesystem
    firmwarerevisionstatus.
    ReplacingDeallocatedMemoryRanks
    Thissectionprovidesthestepsnecessarytoreplacedeallocatedmemoryranks.

    							NOTE:Whenreplacingdeallocatedmemoryranksonaserverwithsystemfirmwareversion
    45.11orgreater,youmustperformthefollowingprocedurebeforereplacingthedeallocated
    memory.Thisprocedureisnecessarytoensurethatthememoryisproperlyreallocatedupon
    serverboot.
    Toensuretherepairedmemoryrankreallocatesproperly,followthesesteps:
    1.BoottoBCH.
    2.Enterthein mecommandtoviewthedeconfiguredquadofmemory.
    3.Entertheser pdt clearcommand.Thefollowingmessagedisplaysfollowedbya30
    seconddelay:
    If DIMM replacement is necessary, power off the system now: Use ^B
    MP:CM> PC -OFF -NC, then pull power cord and replace DIMM. Otherwise,
    the system automatically reboots in 30 seconds.
    4.Youmustremovepowerfromthesystemwithin30seconds.
    5.ForinstructionsonremovingandreplacingthememoryDIMM,see“Removingand
    ReplacingSystemMemory”(page149).
    RemovingSystemMemory
    WARNING!Beforeremovingorreplacingsystemmemory,ensurethattheserverispowered
    offandallthepowersourceshavebeendisconnectedfromtheserver.
    VoltagesarepresentatvariouslocationswithintheserverwheneveranACpowersourceis
    connected.Thisvoltageispresentevenwhenthemainpowerswitchisintheoffposition.
    Failuretoobservethiswarningcanresultinpersonalinjuryordamagetoequipment.
    CAUTION:ObserveallESDsafetyprecautionsbeforeattemptingthisprocedure.Failureto
    followESDsafetyprecautionscanresultindamagetotheserver.
    ToremoveaDIMM,followthesesteps:
    1.Powerofftheserveranddisconnectthepowerandexternalcables.
    2.Removethetopcover.(See“RemovingandReplacingServerCoversandBezel”(page126).)
    3.Removethememoryairflowguide.(See“RemovingandReplacingtheMemoryAirflow
    Guide”(page144).)
    4.IdentifytheDIMMtoberemovedandpushtheappropriateextractionleversfoundon
    eithersideoftheDIMMconnectoroutwardtotheopenposition.TheDIMMejectsfromthe
    connector.
    5.RemovetheDIMMfromthesocket.Iftheremovedmemoryisfunctional,storeitina
    static-freecontainerforfutureuse.
    InstallingSystemMemory
    Memorymodulesmustbeloadedinthecorrectorder:
    •IntheHP9000rp3410server,thefirstfourDIMMsmustbeinstalledasorderedpairsof
    equalsize.TheDIMMinsocket0AmustmatchtheDIMMinsocket0B.Ifasecondpairis
    added(sockets1Aand1B),theDIMMsmustmatchtheDIMMsinsockets0Aand0B.
    AdditionalDIMMs(DIMMsockets5through12)mustbeinstalledasquads(identicalgroups
    offour—twomatchedpairs).Thisrequirementissummarizedas:
    •0Aand0Bmustbeanidenticalpair
    •1Aand1Bmustbeidenticaltothepairinsockets0Aand0B

    NOTE:DIMMsmatchiftheyhavethesameHPpartnumber.
    Modulesizescanbemixed,aslongasDIMMsineachquadmatch.Forexample:
    •OnHP9000rp3410servers,itisacceptabletoloadfour256MBDIMMsinsockets0A,0B,
    1A,and1Bandfour512MBor1GBDIMMsinsockets2A,2B,3A,and3B
    •OnHP9000rp3440servers,itisacceptabletoloadaquadof256MBDIMMsinsockets0A,
    0B,1Aand1B,andaquadoflargerDIMMsinsockets2A,2B,3Aand3B
    ToinstallDIMMs,followthesesteps:
    1.Powerofftheserveranddisconnectthepowerandexternalcables.
    CAUTION:Toensurethatmemorymodulesarenotdamagedduringremovalorinstallation,
    powerofftheserverandunplugthepowercordfromtheACpoweroutlet.Waituntilthe
    LEDonthebackofthepowersupplyturnsoffbeforeremovingorinstallingmemory.
    2.Removethetopcover.
    3.Removethememoryairflowguide.(See“RemovingtheMemoryAirflowGuide”(page144).)
    4.Holdingthememorymodulebyitsleftandrightedges,insertthemoduleintothesocket.
    Thememorymodulesarekeyedandcanonlybeinsertedinonedirection.Whenthemodule
    iscorrectlyseated,theretainerclipsreturntotheirfullyuprightposition.
    5.FirmlyandevenlypushdownoneachendoftheDIMMuntilitseatsinthesocket.Ensure
    theextractionleversareintheclosedpositionandsnaptheclipsfirmlyintoplacetoensure
    thattheDIMMsareseatedproperly.

    Thissectionprovidesinformationaboutinstallingdualprocessormodules.Themodulesare
    locatedonthesystemboardwhichisaccessiblebyremovingthetopcover.
    WARNING!Ensurethattheserverispoweredoffandallthepowersourceshavebeen
    disconnectedfromtheserverbeforeremovingorreplacingadualprocessormodule.
    VoltagesarepresentatvariouslocationswithintheserverwheneveranACpowersourceis
    connected.Thisvoltageispresentevenwhenthemainpowerswitchisintheoffposition.
    Failuretoobservethiswarningcanresultinpersonalinjuryordamagetoequipment.
    CAUTION:Failuretoproperlycompletethestepsinthisprocedurewillresultinerraticsystem
    behaviororsystemfailure.Forassistancewiththisprocedure,contactyourlocalHPAuthorized
    ServiceProvider.
    ObserveallESDsafetyprecautionsbeforeattemptingthisprocedure.FailuretofollowESDsafety

    NOTE:Processortoolkit(HPpartnumber5069-5441)isrequiredforremovalandinstallation

    6.Usethefourlocatorpostsontheheatsinkandtheturbofanpowercabletoproperlyalign
    thefananddualprocessormoduleonthesystemboard(Figure6-45).Thefourlocatorposts
    fitinthelocatorholesonthesystemboardprocessormodulemount.Theturbofanpower
    cablemustbepositionedsothatitislocatedonthesideoftheheatsinkthatfacesthefront
    oftheserver.
