Control Panel Phaser® 6128MFP Mult ifunction Printer 21 Information Pages Your printer comes with a set of information pa ges to help you obtain the best results from your printer. Access these pages from the cont rol panel. Print the Menu Map to see where these information pages are located in the control panel menu structure. To print information pages: 1. On the control panel, press the System button, select Information Pages , and then press the OK button. 2. Select the information page you want to print, then press the OK button. Menu Map The Menu Map helps you navigate the control panel menus. Note: Print the Menu Map to see other information pages available for printing or go to the support site at www.xerox.com/office/6128MFPdocs . Power Saver Mode Phaser® 6128MFP Mult ifunction Printer 22 Power Saver Mode Power Saver Mode 1 (Printer) The printer is equipped with Power Saver Mode 1 to reduce power consumption to 35 W or less when it is left idle. When no print data is received for 30 minutes (default), the printer will enter Power Saver Mode 1. The time range that can be specified for the pr inter to enter Power Saver Mode 1 is 5 to 60 minutes. The time required to exit from Power Saver Mode 1 to a print-ready status is about 20 seconds. The printer automatically cancels Power Saver Mode 1 once it receives data from the computer. To cancel Power Saver Mode 1 manually, press the Wake Up button. Power Saver Mode 2 (System) Power Saver Mode 2 controls the scanner lamp. When the scanner is not being used, the lamp turns off after the time sp ecified for Power Saver Mode 2. The time range that can be specified for the printer to enter Power Saver Mode 2 is 5 to 120 minutes. Consumption of power during Power Saver Mode 2 is 17W. The default setting for Power Saver Mode 2 is 30 minutes after Power Saver Mode 1 starts. The printer automatically cancels Power Saver Mode 2 once it receives data from the computer. Installation and Setup Overview Phaser® 6128MFP Mult ifunction Printer 26 Installation and Setup Overview Before you can use your printer, you must: 1. Make sure the printer is set up correctly in an appropriate location, and your printer is connected correctly. 2. Configure settings in the Initial Setup menu on the control panel. 3. Physical Connection Phaser® 6128MFP Mult ifunction Printer 27 Physical Connection See the Installation Guide for more information about: • Choosing a location for the printer. • Preparing consumables. • Connecting the power cord. • Connecting the communication cables (Ethernet or USB). • Network Connection: Both your printer and your computer must be connected to a network using standard Ethern et cables (category 5, RJ45). The printer must also be connected to a dedicated phone line to send and receive faxes. Note: Your printer can be connected directly to the computer using an Ethernet crossover cable (category 5, RJ45). • USB Connection: The printer and your computer must be connected by a standard A/B USB 2.0 cable. The printer must also be connected to a dedicated phone line to send and receive faxes. Note: Communication cables are not included with your printer and must be purchased separately. Initial Setup at the Control Panel Phaser® 6128MFP Mult ifunction Printer 28 Initial Setup at the Control Panel This section includes: • Assigning the Printer’s Network Address on page 28 • Enabling the Printer for Faxing on page 29 • Enabling the Printer for Scanning on page 30 The first time you turn the printer on, the In itial Setup menu will provide you with an opportunity to: • Set the language, date, and time. • Change the network addr ess acquisition method. • Specify the fax phone number, so the printer can receive a fax. • Set up advanced fax settings. Note: After you have exited the Initial Setup menu , you can return to it by pressing the System button, then Admin Menu > System Setup > Power On Wizard . Assigning the Printer’s Network Address The printer is set by default to be automaticall y recognized by the network, acquiring an IP address using DHCP. Netw ork addresses assigned by DHCP are temporary. After a specified time, the network may assign a new IP address to the printer. If your network administrator requires a static IP addresses for the printer, or you do not want the IP address of the printer to change , you must assign a network address to the printer manually. Allowing the IP Address to be Assigned Automatically If your printer is connected to a network that has a DHCP server, an IP address will be assigned when you turn the printer on. If you are connected to a network that does not have a DHCP server, and you want the IP address assigned automatically, do the following: 1. On the control panel, use the up or down arrow to select Network Settings from the Initial Setup menu. 2. Select AutoIP from the list, and press the OK button. 3. Use the down arrow to select Exit Menu, then select Ye s to exit the menu. An IP address will be assigned when you turn the printer on. Note: To return to the Initial Setup menu, press the System button, then Admin Menu > System Setup > Power On Wizard . Specifying a Static IP Address To assign a static IP address to the printer: 1. On the control panel, use the up or down arrow to select Network Settings from the Initial Setup menu. 2. Select Panel from the list, and press the OK button. Type the Network Mask using the keypad, or use the up and down arrow buttons. Press the OK button when finished. 5. Type the Gateway Address using the keyp ad, or use the up and down arrow buttons. Press the OK button when finished. 6. Use the down arrow to select Exit Menu, then select Ye s to exit the menu. Note: To return to the Initial Setup menu, press the System button, then Admin Menu > System Setup > Power On Wizard . Finding Your Printer’s IP Address If you did not write down the IP Address, and need to know what it is, print the Configuration information page. Note: The information page that pr ints automatically when you turn the machine on (by default) is called the Startup Page. This page prints before the printer is recognized by the network, and the IP address show n on this page is not correct. 1. Press the System button on the control panel. 2. Select Information Pgs , and press the OK button. 3. Select Configuration and press the OK button. The Configuration page will print. The printer’s IP address will be listed in the Network Setup section on the bottom left of the page. Enabling the Printer for Faxing To enable the printer to send or receive a fax: 1. On the control panel, use the up or down arrow to select Setup Fax (Basic) from the Initial Setup menu. 2. Select your country from the list, and press the OK button. 3. Type your fax phone number using the keypad, and press the OK button. 4. Use the down arrow to select Exit Menu, then select Ye s to exit the menu. Adding Fax Numbers and Email Addresses to the Address Book If you are connected to a network, you can add fax numbers and email addresses to the printer’s address book using CentreWare IS. If you are connected via USB, you can a dd fax numbers and email addresses to the printer’s address book using th e Address Book Editor utility. Initial Setup at the Control Panel Phaser® 6128MFP Mult ifunction Printer 30 Enabling the Printer for Scanning The printer is enabled for scanning (if you are connected to a network), but you can not scan until scanning is set up in CentreWare IS. If you are connected via USB, you can scan to a folder on your computer, or scan into an application after you have inst alled the scan drivers and the Express Scan Manager utility. Note: If you are connected via USB, you can not scan to an email address or a network location (a shared folder on your computer). For more information see Scanning Setup Overview on page 37.
