    W\bat’s D-Net?

1Connect the IEEE1394 Cable f%fom the jackof the component with IEEE1394 capability,
such as a Set-Top Box o%f a Digital VCR to
    the D-Net (IEEE1394) S400MPEG jack on
    the TV.
    3Select the D-Net (IEEE1394) Compatibledevice.
    2
    P%fess the
    D-\fet
    button on the Remote
    Cont%fol.

    Using D-Net

D-Net refers to a \bome network consisting of devices supporting D-Net (IEEE1\f94) connection (suc\b as digital VCRs and
    Set-Top Boxes).
D-Net (IEEE1\f94) interface is capable of supporting various \big\b-end digital A/V applications, suc\b as A/V device control and
signal routing, Digital Video (DV) editing, \bome networking.

To access D-Net (IEEE1394) in the menu, see page 96.
    The IEEE1394 inte%fface is equipped with a copy p%fotection standa%fd called Digital T%fansmission Content P%fotection (DTCP).
The name of 1394 Jack on the exte%fnal device may be diffe%fent acco%fding to the manufactu%fe%f (i.e., DTV LINK o%f i.LINK).
    The suppo%fted video fo%fmat is MPEG-2 Digital video. Othe%f digital video fo%fmats (e.g. DV fo%fmat...) a%fe not suppo%fted. %bo%f
    audio, Dolby Digital and MPEG Digital Audio a%fe suppo%fted, othe%f digital audio fo%fmats (e.g. MP3, DTS) a%fe not suppo%fted.
Because IEEE1394 is an evolving technology, it is possible that some o%f all of the featu%fes of a device you
connect to the TV th%fough the IEEE1394 po%ft may not ope%fate.
The%fe may be a single IEEE1394 jack depending on the specifications of the exte%fnal device.

How to connect compatible IEEE1394 Devices

Connecting compatible IEEE1394 devices is simple using this TV.
    A secu%fe digital inte%fface is p%fovided to othe%f digital home ente%ftainment units, such as a DTV, a Set-Top Box,
    an AV-HDD, a digital VCR, a MPEG Camco%fde%f.

T\be last device in t\be c\bain s\bould not be looped back to t\be TV as t\be TV may not be able to work wit\b t\be ot\ber devices.
To connect two or more D-Net (IEEE1\f94) Compatible devices, follow t\be diagram below.

IEEE1394 cables longe%f than 14.76 feet (177.16 inches) should not be used between devices.

    A maximum 10 D-Net (IEEE1394)
    Compatible devices can be connected.

    Connection Options

T\bere are two different connection options for connecting D -Net (IEEE1\f94) compatible devices.
Select t\be most suitable option according to your network of audio/video products.

    The Direct Device-To-Device Option

D-Net (IEEE1394) pe%fmits the chaining of devices, unlike
analog audio and video connections whe%fe each device needs to
be individually connected to the TV. This allows you to connect
    you%f D-VHS to you%f 1394 Set-Top Box only, then connect the
Set-Top Box to the TV. Mo%fe IEEE1394 devices can be added to
the chain as needed. Each video device can be viewed on the
    TV’s D-Net and info%fmation can be sent f%fom any IEEE1394
    device to othe%f compatible devices.

    The Hub Connection Option

D-Net (IEEE1394) also pe%fmits connecting devices using the TV as a hub. Each device is capable of sending
info%fmation, which may include audio and video, to any othe%f device on the netwo%fk.

    Englis\b-94

    4-Pin and 6-Pin Connectors

Two different types of connectors are used for IEEE1\f94 terminals and cables, a 4-pin and a 6-pin.
T\be 4-pin connector sends digital audio, digital video and digital control signals to and from devices.
T\be TV \bas two available 4-pin connection jacks, of w\bic\b two are at t\be back.
T\be 6-pin connector also sends digital audio, video and control
signals, but in addition, sends low voltage electrical power.
T\bere are no 6 pin connectors on t\bis TV.
It is not possible to directly connect a 6-pin connector to a 4-pin jack,
and vice versa. In order to connect a 6-pin device to a 4-pin device,
an adaptor or adaptor cable is required, easily purc\based from an
    electronics or computer store.
Connecting a 6-pin device (suc\b as a camcorder) via an adapter to t\be TV, (if it is designed
to receive electrical power from anot\ber 6-pin device) will require t\bat t\be camcorder be directly
connected to t\be AC supply, or t\bat t\be camcorder’s battery power be used.

    • The device list is in the o%fde%f of DTV, STB, AV-HDD, D-VHS, Camco%fde%f and UNKNOWN. If the%fe a%fe multiple devices of the same type, the devices will be listed in ascending o%fde%f of the
manufactu%fe%f name with Samsung fi%fst as the exception. If the%fe a%fe multiple devices of the same type
and they a%fe manufactu%fed by the same company, they will be listed in the o%fde%f of thei%f se%fial numbe%f.
    • It is possible to connect a D-Net device to anothe%f device and to the TV while the TV is ON.
The D-Net device list automatically adds the
    newly-connected device to the list.
See “How to connect compatible IEEE1394 Devices”,
