263 Care and Maintenance 6Repack the ADF and the scanner bed into the original carton. To prepare the printer for repacking: 1Turn off the printer; remove the power cord and all interface cables. 2Remove the media tray(s) from the printer; remove the media from the tray(s). Packing the printer
264 Care and Maintenance 3Press down on a media tray’s metal plate. Place the cardboard packing material into the media tray. 4Reinsert the media tray into the printer; use adhesive tape to secure the tray to the printer. 5If you have other media trays, repack them for shipping or storage in their original shipping boxes. 6a)Open the printer’s front door. b)Loosen the two thumbscrews by turning them counterclockwise. c)Turn the lower green lever 180° counterclockwise. b abc

7a)Grasping the front green handle, slide the unit out
until it catches.
b)Lift up the green handle on the left and pull the color
imaging unit out of the printer.
IMPORTANT:
•Do not touch the green surface (the right side) or the black belt
(the under side). Finger prints may affect the print quality.
SAFETY CAUTION:
•The color imaging unit weighs approximately 6.5 kg {14.3 lbs.}.
Always use the handles when lifting it.
8Wrap the color imaging unit with a protective black
plastic sheet.
CAUTION:CAUTION:
•Do not expose the color imaging unit to light for more than 45
seconds to avoid damage.

266 Care and Maintenance 9On the color imaging unit, turn the upper lever 90° counterclockwise; this is necessary to protect the color imaging unit during shipment. 10Insert the color imaging unit into the packaging.

268 Care and Maintenance 14Place the transfer unit on newspaper or drop cloth. Rotate the handles down and wrap the transfer unit with a piece of paper and adhesive tape. NOTE: •Do not touch or bump the roller: it can damage the roller. 15Install the plastic cover and insert the transfer unit into a plastic bag and seal the end tightly. 269 Care and Maintenance To pack the toner cartridges: 1a)Open the right side door. b)Remove each toner cartridge. CAUTION:CAUTION: •To avoid possible toner spillage, do not tilt the cartridge. 2Close the right side door. 3a)Replace the shipping cover. b)Secure the shipping cover with adhesive tape. 4Insert each toner cartridge into a plastic bag and seal the end of the bag tightly. 5Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each toner cartridge. a b ba

To finish repacking the printer:
1Wipe off any loose toner in and around the printer.
NOTE:
•If a toner vacuum is available, it is the best tool for cleaning
spilled toner. Do not use a standard office vacuum; the toner will
not be retained by typical vacuum dust collectors.
2Raise the output tray and secure it to the printer with
adhesive tape.
3Secure the printer’s front door, the multi-purpose tray
and the left side door to the printer with adhesive tape.
If you don’t have a 2nd cassette feeder, go to step 6.
4If you have a 2nd cassette feeder, lift the printer up and
away from the 2nd cassette feeder.
SAFETY CAUTION:
•The printer weighs approximately 49.5 kg {108.9 lbs.} and the 2nd
cassette feeder weighs approximately 14.3 kg {31.5 lbs.}.
Observe standard precautions for lifting heavy objects.
5Repack the 2nd cassette feeder in its original shipping
box.
6Repack any other accessories in their original shipping
boxes.
