181 Color Calibration 7To print a Color Test that uses the original values and a Color Test that uses the new values, press the ENTER button. NOTE: •You can skip printing Color Test page by selecting Skip. Before applying the calibration changes compare the Color Test that uses the original calibration values against the Color Test that uses the new values. If you are satisfied with the printer’s calibration based on the new values, select Yes from the Apply Changes screen that appears, and press the ENTER button to recalibrate the printer based on the previously entered values. If you are not satisfied with the printer’s calibration based on the new values, select No from the Apply Changes screen that appears. Or if you want to reset the calibration, select Default. 182 Color Calibration To reset VisualCal calibration: 1From Ready or Ready(Sleep), press the MENU/EXIT button and then press the s/CONTINUE button repeatedly to advance to the Visual Calibration menu. Press the ENTER button. 2When the screen displays Endpoint Page on the first line and Print on the second line, press the ENTER button. Wait for the VisualCal Limits and 30% Match page to be printed. 3For the Black Low menu and Black High menu, press the ENTER button each. For the subsequent menus: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, 30% Match, press the ENTER button. The Gray Balance Page menu appears. 4Use the Ú/CANCEL button or the s/CONTINUE button to select Skip menu, and press the ENTER button. The Color Test menu appears. 5Use the Ú/CANCEL button or the s/CONTINUE button to select Skip menu, and press ENTER button. 183 Color Calibration Color adjustment The printer’s color adjustment feature provides additional creative control over printer’s color production. The color adjustment screens, accessible via the printer panel, allow you to override the printer’s current toner density and brightness settings. Using the color adjustment controls, you can also increase or decrease the brightness of an image, or you can increase or decrease the density of each the following colors: red, yellow, green, cyan, blue or magenta. For example, you may choose to make the blues in an image look surreal by increasing the density of the blue and the cyan in the image, and increasing the brightness setting. NOTE: •You can adjust only one color at a time. To perform color adjustment: 1From Ready or Ready(Sleep), press the MENU/EXIT button and then press the s/CONTINUE button repeatedly to advance to the Color Adjustment screen. Press the ENTER button twice. The Brightness menu appears. 2Use the Ú/CANCEL button or the s/CONTINUE button to select a value* 1 (+5 to –5) that will increase or decrease in the overall brightness of printed documents. Press the ENTER button twice. The Adjust Color menu appears. * 1 Negative values are darker, positive values are lighter. 3Use the Ú/CANCEL button or the s/CONTINUE button to select a color to be adjusted, and press the ENTER button. 4Use the Ú/CANCEL button or the s/CONTINUE button to select a value* 2 (+5 to –5) that will increase or decrease in the density of the color to be adjusted. Color Adjust Test pages that use the previous value and the new values are printed. 6Press the ENTER button. The Apply Changes menu appears. 7To apply the new color and brightness values use the Ú/CANCEL button or the s/CONTINUE button to select Yes. Press the ENTER button. NOTE: •Changes made using Color Adjustment are retained until the printer is recalibrated. Or reset the adjusted colors to the last calibration made using the Reset All to 0 option in the Adjust Color screen; or recalibrate the printer using VisualCal. For scanner glass: •Max. 216 mm x 356 mm (8.5 x 14) For ADF (Automatic Document Feeder): •Document width: 100 mm to 216 mm (3.94 to 8.5) •Document length: 178 mm to 356 mm (7 to 14) •ADF tray: up to 50 pages of document [75 g/m2 (20 lbs.) fresh paper] •Document weight: 60 g/m2 to 127.5 g/m2 (16 lbs. to 34 lbs.) Do not use the following types of documents. For scanner glass: •Document on which ink, paste or correction fluid has not completely dried •Heavily curled or creased paper For ADF (Automatic Document Feeder): •Document on which ink, paste or correction fluid has not completely dried •Do not use the following types of documents to avoid a jam or prevent the documents from getting torn. — Original or precious photographs — Paper with curls, wrinkles, twists — Documents bound with clips or staples — Paper with carbon on the backside or rough paper — Transparency or electrostatically charged paper — Labels or paper with holes — Extremely thin or thick paper — Document with coated surfaces and poorly fixed — Plastic or metal sheet IMPORTANT: •All literary, artistic and typographical works are copyrighted. 187 Basic Operations Perform the following and go to page 188 or 194 depending upon the operation. n Using the ADF 1a)Fan the stack of documents and tap it on a level surface to avoid document jams. b)Insert the documents fully in the ADF tray with the printed sides facing up and top of the documents first. The height of document should not exceed the limit mark on the document guide, or it may cause a jam. c)Adjust the document guides to the width of the documents. 188 Basic Operations n Using the scanner glass 1a)Open the ADF. b)Place the document face down on the scanner glass referring to the document position marks. c)Close the ADF. NOTES: •When scanning a book type document of more than 2 cm (0.79) thickness, scan it with the ADF open. •Scanning a document using the flatbed (scanner glass) produces better quality than scanning it using the ADF. For best scanning quality use flatbed scanning. •If you scan poorly fixed originals such as catalogs using ADF, they may be partially stained. To prevent the originals from getting stained, use the flatbed scanning. Scanning documents Any acceptable documents (see page 186) can be scanned. n For Windows 3.1 users To scan the documents, TWAIN compliant application must be installed. 1Start Windows 3.1. 2From the Program Manager, click the Window menu. The Corel PHOTO-PAINT Select Edition window is displayed. 4Click the File menu, and click Acquire Image. 5Click Select Source.... The Select Source window is displayed. 6Select Panasonic KX-PS8100 32bit Driver, then click [Select]. 7Click the File menu, and click Acquire Image.

The Panasonic Scanner Driver and the Preview Screen are displayed. 9Place the document(s) in the ADF tray or on the scanner glass (see page 187-188). 10Click [Prescan] to display the document image in the Preview Screen and select a scanning area. 11Click [Scan].
