211 Care and Maintenance To clean the paper-pick rollers: 1Slide the media tray out (you do not have to remove it) to allow access to the paper-pick rollers. 2Open the left side door. 3Use the green handles to pull out the paper feeder. 4Gently rotate the paper-pick rollers 180° (the paper-pick rollers are D-shaped) and wipe them with a lint-free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
212 Care and Maintenance 5a)Reinsert the paper feeder. b)Close the left side door. 6Slide the media tray back into place. NOTE: •If you have a 2nd cassette feeder, you may also need to clean the rollers for the middle and lower media trays, which are accessed through the lower left side door. a b
213 Care and Maintenance Life of components The life of components will vary depending on what you print and the media you use and environment. Panasonic shows life based on an average of 5% coverage of the printable area and standard density for any one color. In case of Monochrome printing, 1 color (Black only) is used. In case of full color printing, 4 colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) are used. The frequency of replacement will vary, depending on the complexity of the prints and the percentage of coverage of each color and print density. For details on the life of components, refer to next “User replaceable components”. User replaceable components When the printer panel indicates that a supply needs to be replaced, make sure that you have replacement supplies on hand. The printer may continue to print until the supply is completely used up; but then it stops until you replace the indicated supply. The frequency of replacement will vary, depending on the complexity of the prints and the percentage of coverage of each color and print density.
214 Care and Maintenance (Continued) *1These figures are based on an average of 5% coverage of the printable area and standard density for any one color (refer to Example A below left: Monochrome 5% coverage). In case of Monochrome printing, 1 color (Black only) is used. In case of full color printing, 4 colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) are used. Therefore the life of Color imaging unit is 60,000 pages at Monochrome printing (Black only), 15,000 pages at full color printing (4 color mode) at 5% coverage per color . NOTE: •Each file’s coverage is measured by KX-PS8100 pixel counter on letter size. The coverage will differ with printers. 215 Care and Maintenance (Continued) *1See *1 on page 214. *2The starter cartridges that ship with the printer have an average life of approximately 3,000 pages, based on an average of 5% coverage. * 3Specialty media (Transparencies, coated paper, etc.) will result in shortening the life of a consumable to maintain better print quality. When one page is printed on this type of media, 2 pages are counted. So when only speciality media is used, it may reduce the life of components by half. When replacing the fuser unit, replace the oil supply roll as well. Do not insert the used oil supply roll into the new fuser unit; it may damage the new fuser unit. * 4Printing a large quantity of pages with high coverage will result in the message “Fuser Unit wearing out” to be displayed earlier than its expected life. In this case, replace the fuser unit. See page 217. Displaying the life of supplies and coverage of toner This menu shows how much percentage of each consumable life remains to be used. Please note that the values shown here is just the approximate value and are not always correct. So the consumable wearing warning message might occur regardless of the displayed values. 220 Care and Maintenance If the printer has frequent media jams, make sure that you follow these guidelines: •Always use high-quality laser paper and transparencies. See pages 291 and 293. •Make sure that you load specialty media only in the multi-purpose tray and that you set the media thickness switch to the correct setting for the media used. If a media jam occurs, the printer panel reports “Jam at ”, where “” are the various sensors throughout the paper path, shown as A through E in the illustration below. NOTE: •After removing the jammed media, open and close the printer’s front door to clear the error message from the printer LCD panel.
