    125 Installing Software for Windows
To print from Windows 3.1 you need to:
    •
Set up the printer to accept print jobs from your computer.
    •
Configure a port on each Windows 3.1 computer for the network or
    connection type.
    n
     Selecting a printer port
When you install a printer, Windows assigns it to a default parallel printer
port. If the KX-PS8100 printer is connected to your computer through a
network or you want to assign it to a different port, you need to change the
port assignment. For information on which port to use, see your system
    administrator.
    To select a printer port:
    1
    In the
    Control Panel
     window, double-click the
    Printers

    icon.
    2
    In the
    Printers
     window, select the
    Panasonic
    KX-PS8100

    on LPT1:
     in the
    Installed Printers
     list box.
    3
    Click
    [Connect...]
    .
    The Connect window appears.
    4
Connect the printer to the same port as your network.
To print to a file, select FILE.
Printing to a file is useful if the printer is not at your site. However, if
you select the FILE port, you cannot print to a printer until you
select a network or printer port. (In some applications, you can
select the FILE port from the application’s Print window; this is
preferable for temporary use since it doesn’t require resetting the
    port in the Control Panel.)

    icon.
6In the Printers window, click [Connect...] to connect the
    printer to the appropriate port.
    7Click [Network...].
If you are printing to a file, select FILE. Printing to a file is useful if
the printer is not at your site. However, if you select the FILE port,
you cannot print to a printer until you select a network or printer
port. If you click [Network], the next window depends on the
    NetWare client driver version.
8If the Network Printer Connections window is

Installing additional software for Windows users
Additional software, including Adobe Type Manager (ATM), a PANTONE
color reference file, a CMYK reference file, a KX-PS8100 ICM profile, is
    included on the KX-PS8100 CD-ROM Disc1.
When a Typical installation is performed on Windows 95 using the installer,
ATM and fonts are automatically installed to a directory on your hard drive
directory called Panasonic KX-PS8100. When a Compact installation is
performed, only the printer drivers appropriate to your system are installed.
You can also select which additional files to install during a Custom
installation procedure, or you can copy the additional files from the
KX-PS8100 CD-ROM Disc1 to a directory of your choice as they are
    needed.
    NOTE:
•ATM can be installed for Windows 95 and Windows 3.1, but ATM cannot
be installed for Windows NT 4.0. Windows 3.1 users must manually copy
the files on the KX-PS8100 CD-ROM Disc1 to their hard drive.
Some files, such as fonts, will need to be moved to specific locations; others
can be moved to a directory of your choice.
Regular, bold, italic, and bold italic versions of PostScript Type 1 fonts, as
well as TrueType fonts are provided in the PS3 Fonts folder on the
KX-PS8100 CD-ROM Disc1. These fonts correspond to the PS3 fonts
installed on your printer. To use these fonts in applications and to properly
display them on your monitor, you will need to install them on your
computer. For information on installing fonts, see the following section.
For a complete list of fonts included with the printer, see Appendix A of
Utilities and Drivers Reference Guide on the KX-PS8100 CD-ROM Disc2.
Adobe Type Manager (ATM) is included on the KX-PS8100 CD-ROM
Disc1. This application can be used to transfer PostScript Type 1 fonts to the
printer’s memory, or to manage fonts on the printer. You can also:
•Install the PostScript Type 1 fonts that correspond to those installed on
    your printer
•Print using PostScript fonts on non-PostScript printers
•Improve the screen display of PostScript fonts
    PostScript and
