Chapter 6 145Setup from the Printer Panel and WebSetup This chapter describes how to configure the printer’s Setup options. The settings you specify in Setup determine user access to the printer, printing defaults applied to jobs, and general system settings. Some Setup options are specified during an initial Setup from the printer panel; others must be set later from Fiery WebSetup. Initial Setup from the printer panel Initial Setup for network printing must be performed using the printer panel. After the initial Setup is complete, you must finish configuring Setup options using Fiery WebSetup (see page 151). Some options set from the printer panel can also be modified using Fiery WebSetup. The general steps for performing Setup from the printer panel are: •Specify parallel port settings (page 146). •Specify network port settings (page 146). •Specify network protocol settings (page 148). Before you change any Setup options, it’s a good idea to print the current configuration settings, in case you need to restore these settings later. For information on printing a configuration page, see “Printing pages from the printer panel” on page 202. Use the following procedure to access the Parallel Port Setup, Network Port Setup, and Network Protocol Setup menus from the printer panel. To access Setup menus from the printer panel: 1Turn on the printer. Wait until “Ready” or “Ready(Sleep)” is displayed. 2Press the MENU/EXIT button. 3To advance through the options, press the s /CONTINUE button; to return to previous options, press the Ú /CANCEL button. 4To select an option, press the ENTER button. 146 Setup from the Printer Panel and WebSetup To conserve energy and operating cost, this printer is provided with a programmable power saver feature. The printer is factory set with the power saver feature turned on to comply with E NERGY STAR® requirements. If set to On, the printer automatically turns to power saver mode when there are no print jobs received or access to the printer panel for more than 30 minutes. This mode can reduce the total power consumption of the printer to less than 35 watts. Full power mode is restored when the printer receives a job or when you press the MENU/EXIT button or print a page at the printer. In addition to receiving print jobs over Ethernet or Token Ring, the printer can receive print jobs from a computer through its high-speed parallel port. If no network card is installed, the printer is connected to a computer via the parallel port. Parallel Port Setup To advance to the next screen, press the ENTER button. Enable Parallel?
