191 Basic Operations n For Macintosh users The Panasonic KX-PS8100 has two scanner drivers, TWAIN as well as Photoshop Plug-in. Perform the following depending upon the scanner driver. To use the TWAIN scanner driver: 1Start Mac OS. 2Run your TWAIN compliant application. 3Click the File menu, and click Import. 4Click Twain Acquire..., and go to step 5. The Panasonic Scanner Driver and the Preview Screen are displayed. To use the Photoshop Plug-in scanner driver: 1Start Mac OS. 2Run your Photoshop Plug-in compliant application. 3Click the File menu, and click Import. 4Click KX-PS8100 Scanner.... The Panasonic Scanner Driver and the Preview Screen are displayed. 5Place the document(s) in the ADF tray or on the scanner glass (see page 187-188). 6Click [Prescan] to display the document image in the Preview Screen and select a scanning area. 7Click [Scan]. The Print window is displayed. •Make sure that “Panasonic KX-PS8100” is selected. 2Click [OK]. After several minutes, the document will be printed. Print time depends on the size of the document. NOTE: •For additional information, see the Utilities and Drivers Reference Guide. n For Windows 95/Windows NT 4.0/Macintosh users 1Click the File menu, then click Print. The Save an Image to Disk window is displayed. 2Enter the File Name. 3Select the File Type. 4Click [OK]. For best quality use flatbed scanning. 3If you wish to make more than one duplicate, set the number of duplicates using numbers 0-9. • You can set the number of duplicates between 1 and 999. •Clicking will reset the number of duplicates to 1. 4If you wish to use the multi-purpose tray, perform the following and go to step 5. a) Insert the paper in the multi-purpose tray. • For instructions on how to insert the media in the multi- purpose tray, see page 52. b) Click to select the multi-purpose tray. • The green indicator shows which tray has been selected. c) Select a Media Type and a Paper Size. 5To produce a high quality duplicate(s) of the original document(s), perform the following by referring to the table below: a) Select an image type that corresponds to your original document by clicking on t at the left of Original Image Type box. b) Click . 197 Basic Operations NOTES: •When making a color duplicate, pressing the MODE + START COLOR button makes a duplicate more quickly than pressing the START COLOR button. However, it slightly increases the toner consumption. •When making a duplicate of a black and white document, press START B/W button to make a duplicate quickly. If you press START COLOR button, you will still get a black and white duplicate, but the process will take slightly longer. •Before the printer can print after being in the Power Saver Mode [“Sleep” is displayed on the scanner LCD and “Ready (Sleep)” is displayed on the printer LCD.], it needs to warm up to heat up the fuser. •When the scanner panel is left idle for 5 minutes, all menu settings will automatically return to the Menu Default. (See “Menu Default” on page 208) The printer panel functions and menus The printer panel enables you to set options and view the status of the printer and print jobs. This section provides information about: •Status messages and error messages •Main menus you can access from the printer panel •Printing printer information pages from the printer panel For a detailed explanation of the activity lights and buttons on the printer panel, see “Printer panel overview” on page 38. When the printer is printing normally, status information about current jobs appears in the display window. The messages are: •Ready—Displays while the printer is ready to print but not processing or printing a job. •Printing—Displays while a job is printing. •Processing—Displays while the job is processing. •Canceling Job—Appears when you cancel a print job. •Ready(Sleep)—Appears when the printer is in an Power Saver mode. This mode can reduce the total power consumption of the printer to less than 35 watts. Full power mode is restored when the printer receives a job or when you press the MENU/EXIT button or print a page at the printer. Printer’s status messages
198 Basic Operations Before the printer can print after being in Ready(Sleep), it needs to warm up to heat up the fuser. The actual warm-up time depends on how long the printer has been in Power Saver mode. If the printer has been in Ready(Sleep) Power Saver mode for a long time, the warm-up period will be longer. If there is a printing problem, the Error indicator will be on, and an error will appear in the display window. For information about error messages, see “Printer LCD panel” on page 248. The table below describes the printer’s main menus. •Press the MENU/EXIT button to access the menus. •Press the s/CONTINUE or Ú/CANCEL button to scroll through the menus. Some of these menus (Parallel Port Setup, Network Port Setup, and Network Protocol Setup) are used to configure the printer’s initial Setup, which must be completed before users can send jobs to the printer. For information on performing the initial Setup from the printer panel, see page 145. The Main menus are displayed in the upper line of the printer panel, and the Selection menus are displayed in the lower line.
