    							Notes:
    If you insert the flash drive when the printer requires attention, such as when a jam has occurred, then the
    printer ignores the flash drive.
    If you insert the flash drive while the printer is printing other jobs, then Printer Busy appears. When
    the current job is completed, touch the USB icon to print documents from the flash drive.
    3Touch the document you want to print.
    Note: Folders found on the flash drive appear as folders. File names are appended by the extension type (for
    example, .jpg).
    4Touch the arrows if you want to increase the number of printed copies.
    5Touch Print.
    Note: Do not remove the flash drive from the USB port until the document has finished printing.
    If you leave the flash drive in the printer after leaving the initial USB menu screen, but you still want to print files
    from the flash drive, then go to the home screen, touch the USB icon, and print the files.
    Printing information pages
    Printing a font sample list
    To print samples of the fonts currently available for your printer:
    1Make sure the printer is on and Ready appears.
    2On the home screen, touch .
    3Touch Reports.
    4Touch the down arrow until Print Fonts appears.
    5Touch Print Fonts.
    6Touch PCL Fonts or PostScript Fonts.
    A font sample list prints.
    7Touch  to return to the home screen.
    Printing a directory list
    A directory list shows the resources stored in flash memory or on the printer hard disk.
    1Make sure the printer is on and Ready appears.
    2On the home screen, touch .
    3Touch Reports.
    4Touch the down arrow until Print Directory appears.

    							Printing the print quality test pages
    Print the print quality test pages to isolate print quality problems.
    1Turn the printer off.
    2Hold down  and 6MNO while turning the printer on.
    3Release the buttons when the screen with the progress bar appears.
    The printer performs a power‑on sequence, and then the Configuration menu appears.
    4Touch the down arrow until Print Quality Pages appears.
    5Touch Print Quality Pages.
    The print quality test pages print.
    6Touch Back.
    7Touch Exit Config menu.
    Canceling a print job
    Canceling a print job from the printer control panel
    1Touch Cancel Jobs on the touch screen, or press  on the keypad.
    2Touch the job you want to cancel.
    3Touch Delete Selected Jobs.
    Canceling a print job from the computer
    To cancel a print job, do one of the following:
    For Windows users
    1Click , or click Start and then click Run.
    2In the Start Search or Run box, type control printers.
    3Press Enter, or click OK.
    The printer folder opens.
    4Double‑click the printer icon.
    5Select the job to cancel.
    6From the keyboard, press Delete.

    							When you send a job to print, a small printer icon appears in the right corner of the taskbar.
    1Double‑click the printer icon.
    A list of print jobs appears in the printer window.
    2Select a job to cancel.
    3From the keyboard, press Delete.
    For Macintosh users
    In Mac OS X version 10.5 or later:
    1From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2Click Print & Fax, and then double‑click the printer icon.
    3From the printer window, select the job to cancel.
    4From the icon bar at the top of the window, click the Delete icon.
    In Mac OS X version 10.4 and earlier:
    1From the Go menu, choose Applications.
    2Double‑click Utilities, and then double‑click Print Center or Printer Setup Utility.
    3Double‑click the printer icon.
    4From the printer window, select the job to cancel.

    							Clearing jams
    Jam error messages appear on the printer control panel display and include the area of the printer where the jam
    occurred. When there is more than one jam, the number of jammed pages is displayed.
    Understanding jam numbers and locations
    When a jam occurs, a message indicating the jam location appears on the display. Open doors and covers and remove
    trays to access jam locations. To resolve any paper jam message, you must clear all jammed paper from the paper path
    and then touch Continue.

    1Lower the multipurpose feeder door, and then push the release latch to open the front cover.

    2Lift and pull the print cartridge out of the printer.
    Warning—Potential Damage: Do not touch the photoconductor drum on the underside of the cartridge. Use
    the cartridge handle whenever you are holding the cartridge. Clearing jams84

    							3Place the print cartridge aside on a flat, smooth surface.
    Warning—Potential Damage: Do not leave the cartridge exposed to light for extended periods.
    Warning—Potential Damage: The jammed paper may be covered with unfused toner which can stain garments
    and skin.
    4Remove the jammed paper.
    CAUTION—HOT SURFACE: The inside of the printer might be hot. To reduce the risk of injury from a hot
    component, allow the surface to cool before touching.
    Note: If the paper is not easy to remove, then open the rear door and remove the paper from there.
    5Align and reinstall the print cartridge.
    6Close the front cover.
    7Close the multipurpose feeder door.
    8Touch Continue.
    202 and 203 paper jams
    Touch Status/Supplies to identify the location of the jam. If the paper is exiting the printer, then pull the paper out,
    and then touch Continue.
    If the paper is not exiting the printer:
    1Open the upper rear door.
    2Slowly remove the jammed paper to avoid tearing it. Clearing jams85

    4Touch Continue.
    230 paper jam
    Rear paper jams
    1Remove the standard tray.
    2Open the lower rear door.
    3If you do not find the jam, push the tab down.
    4Remove the jammed paper.
    5Close the lower rear door.
    6Insert the standard tray.
    7Touch Continue.
    Front paper jams
    1Remove the standard tray from the printer.

    1Pull out the tray indicated on the display.
    2Remove any jammed paper, and then insert the tray.
    3Touch Continue.
    4If the jam message persists for a 250‑ or 550‑sheet tray, then remove the tray from the printer.
    5Remove the jammed paper, and then insert the tray.
    6Touch Continue.

    1Touch Status/Supplies to identify the location of the jam.
    2Remove the paper from the multipurpose feeder.
    3Flex the sheets of paper back and forth to loosen them, and then fan them. Do not fold or crease the paper. Straighten
    the edges on a level surface.

    							5Slide the paper guide toward the inside of the tray until it lightly rests against the edge of the paper.
    6Touch Continue.
    270–279 paper jams
    To clear a jam in the high‑capacity output stacker or the 5‑bin mailbox:
    1Touch Status/Supplies to identify the location of the jam.
    2If the paper is exiting into a bin, then pull the paper straight out, and then touch Continue.
    If not, then continue with step 3.
    3Pull down the output bin door or doors.
    4Remove the jammed paper.
    5Close the output bin door or doors.
    6Touch Continue.
    280–282 paper jams
    1Touch Status/Supplies to identify the location of the jam.
    2Pull down the StapleSmart finisher door.
    3Remove the jammed paper.
    4Close the StapleSmart finisher door.

    							283 staple jams
    1Touch Status/Supplies to identify the location of the jam.
    2Press the latch to open the stapler door.
    3Pull the latch of the staple cartridge holder down, and then pull the holder out of the printer.
    4Use the metal tab to lift the staple guard, and then remove any loose staples.
    5Close the staple guard.

    							6Press down on the staple guard until it snaps into place.
    7Push the cartridge holder firmly back into the stapler unit until the cartridge holder clicks into place.
