When parking the vehicle f or an
    extended period, water
accumulates in the f uel system
and the engine will not start. In
this case, water may need to be
drained of f with the f uel f ilter (see
on page ). If possible, periodically run the
engine until it reaches f ull
    operating temperature (the
cooling f ans cycle on and of f
twice). Pref erably, do this once a
month. Cover the vehicle with a
    ‘‘breathable’’ cover, one made
f rom a porous material such as
    cotton. Non-porous materials, such
    as plastic sheeting, trap moisture,
which can damage the paint. If you need to park your vehicle f or
an extended period (more than 1
month), there are several things you
should do to prepare it f or storage.
    Proper preparation helps prevent
deterioration and makes it easier to
get your vehicle back on the road. If
    possible, store your vehicle indoors.
    Fill the f uel tank.
    Wash and dry the exterior
    completely.
    Cleantheinterior.Makesurethe
    carpeting, floor mats, etc., are
    completely dry.
Leave the parking brake off. Put
    the transmission in reverse
    (manual, i-SHIFT) or Park
    (automatic).Block the rear wheels.
If the vehicle is to be stored f or a
    longer period, it should be
    supported on jackstands so the
tyres are of f the ground.
Leave one window open slightly (if
    the vehicle is being stored
    indoors).
    Disconnect the battery.
Support the f ront wiper blade
arms with a f olded towel or rag so
they do not touch the windscreen.
    To minimize sticking, apply a
silicone spray lubricant to all door
and tailgate seals. Also, apply a
    vehiclebodywaxtothepainted
surfaces that mate with the door
    and tailgate seals.476

    Loosen the two holding screws,
    then remove the cover.
Squeeze the f uel hand primer until
you f eel a strong resistance. If your vehicle runs out of f uel, the
malf unction indicator lamp will come
on, or the symbol ‘‘ ’’ will
    appear on the multi-inf ormation
display, and the engine will not
restart af ter ref ueling the f uel tank
with the appropriate f uel (see pages
    and ).
In this case, air may have entered
the fuel system. The system requires
priming to start the engine. Prime
    the fuel system as follows:
Ref uel the f uel tank (minimum 5
    litres).
Open the bonnet. If you store your vehicle f or 1 year or
longer, have your dealer perf orm the
maintenance inspections called f or in
    the 2 years/40,000 km (25,000 miles)
    maintenance schedule as soon as
    youtakeitoutof storage(seepage
). The replacements called f or in
    the maintenance schedule are not
    needed unless the vehicle has
    actually reached that time or
    distance.
    For EU countries, Australia, and
South Af rica, see the separate
    service inf ormation booklet.

The engine runs normally, but the
malf unction indicator lamp or the
    PGM-FI warning remains on.
To turn of f the indicator, restart
    andturnoff theengineatleast
    three times at intervals of
    approximately 30 seconds.
If this procedure is perf ormed
    during normal driving, the
malf unction indicator lamp will be
turned of f , and the PGM-FI warning
    on the multi-information display will
    also go out.
If you are not sure how to bleed the
    air, contact your dealer.
If the engine fails to restart after
priming the f uel system, there is a
problem in the f uel system. You
should have the vehicle inspected by
your dealer. Start the engine (see page ). If
the engine does not start right
away, do not hold the ENGINE
START button for more than 10
seconds at a time. This will
damage the f uel pump and the
    engine starter.
If the engine fails to start, return
    to step 4.
Af ter the engine restarts, press
    the accelerator pedal slightly and
hold it at approximately 1,500 rpm
f or about 30 seconds. This will
complete the air bleeding in the
    f uel system.
Reinstall the cover in front of the
f uel hand primer, then tighten the
holding screws securely. Do not press the engine cover
f orcibly. This may damage the
    engine cover and component parts.5.

    							Frequent washing helps preserve
your vehicle’s beauty. Dirt and grit
can scratch the paint, while tree sap
    and bird droppings can permanently
    ruin the f inish.
Wash your vehicle in a shady area,
not in direct sunlight. If the vehicle is
parked in the sun, move it into the
shade and let the exterior cool down
    bef ore you start.
Only use the solvents and cleaners
    recommendedinthisowner’s
    manual.
    Chemical solvents and strong
cleaners can damage the paint, metal,
and plastic on your vehicle.Rinse the vehicle thoroughly with
cool water to remove loose dirt.
Fill a bucket with cool water. Mix
in a product made especially f or
    car washing.
Wash the vehicle using water and
detergent solution and a sof t-
bristle brush, sponge, or sof t cloth.
Start at the top and work your way
    down. Rinse f requently.
Check the body f or road tar, tree
sap, etc. Remove these stains with
tar remover or turpentine. Rinse it
of f immediately so it does not
harm the f inish. Remember to re-
wax these areas, even if the rest of
the vehicle does not need waxing. When you have washed and rinsed
the whole exterior, dry it with a
chamois or sof t towel. Letting it
air-dry will cause dulling and water
    spots.
As you dry the vehicle, inspect it f or
chips and scratches that could allow
corrosion to start. Repair them with
    touch-up paint (see page ).

You should use a quality liquid or
paste wax. Apply it according to the
    instructions on the container. In
general, there are two types of
    products:
Waxes A wax coats the finish and
protects it f rom damage by exposure
to sunlight, air pollution, etc. You
should use a wax on your vehicle
when it is new.Polishes Polishes and cleaner/
waxes can restore the shine to paint
that has oxidized and lost some of its
    shine. They normally contain mild
    abrasives and solvents that remove
the top layer of the f inish. You
should use a polish on your vehicle if
the f inish does not have its original
shine af ter using a wax.
    Cleaning tar, insects, etc. with
removers also takes off the wax.
    Remember to re-wax those areas,
even if the rest of the vehicle does
not need waxing.Clean your vehicle’s aluminium alloy
wheels as you do the rest of the

    solution, and rinse them thoroughly.
    The wheels have a protective
    clearcoat that keeps the aluminium
f rom corroding and tarnishing. Using
    harsh chemicals, including some
commercial wheel cleaners or stif f
    brushes, can damage this clear-coat.
Only use a mild detergent and sof t
brush or sponge to clean the wheels.

Vacuum the carpeting f requently to
remove dirt. Ground-in dirt will make
the carpet wear out f aster.
    Periodically shampoo the carpet to
keep it looking new. Use one of the
    foam-type carpet cleaners on the
    market. Follow the instructions that
come with the cleaner, applying it
with a sponge or sof t brush. Keep
the carpeting as dry as possible by
not adding water to the f oam.
The driver’s f loor mat that came

Vacuum dirt and dust out of the
    material f requently. For general
cleaning, use a solution of mild soap
and lukewarm water, letting it air dry.
To clean of f stubborn spots, use a
    commercially-available f abric cleaner.
Test it on a hidden area of the f abric
first, to make sure it does not bleach
or stain the f abric. Follow the
    instructions that come with the
    cleaner.
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum
cleaner. Wipe the vinyl with a sof t
cloth dampened in a solution of mild
soap and water. Use the same
solution with a soft-bristle brush on
more dif f icult spots. You can also use
    commercially-available spray or
f oam-type vinyl cleaners.Vacuum dirt and dust f rom the
    leather f requently. Pay particular
attention to the pleats and seams.
Clean the leather with a sof t cloth
    dampened with clear water, then
buf f it with a clean, dry cloth. If
f urther cleaning is needed, use a
soap specif ically f or leather, such as
saddle soap. Apply this soap with a
    damp,softcloth.Wipedownand
    buf f as described above.
If you use a leather cleaner, wipe it
of f quickly with a sof t and dry cloth.
Never leave a cloth soaked with
leather cleaner on any part of the
interior. If lef t f or a long time, some
    leather cleaners may cause
    discolouration or cracking of interior
trim or f abric.Clean the windows, inside and out,
    with a commercially-available glass
cleaner. You can also use a mixture
of one part white vinegar to ten parts
water. This will remove the haze that
builds up on the inside of the
windows. Use a sof t cloth or paper
towels to clean all glass and clear
    plastic surf aces.
    The rear window demister and
antenna wires are bonded to the
inside of the glass. Wiping vigorously
    up-and-down can dislodge and break
these wires. When cleaning the rear
    window, use gentle pressure and

dampened in mild soap and warm
water or isopropyl alcohol. If you want to use an air f reshener/
deodorizer in the interior of your
vehicle, it is best to use a solid type.
Some liquid air f resheners contain
chemicals that may cause parts of
the interior trim and f abric to crack
    or discolour.
