Replace your tyres with radial tyres of the same size, load range, speed rating, and maximum cold tyre pressure rating (as shown on the tyre’s sidewall). Mixing radial and bias-ply tyres on your vehicle can reduce braking ability, traction, and steering accuracy. Using tyres of a dif f erent size or construction can cause the ABS and vehicle stability assist system (VSA) to work inconsistently. If you purchase directional tyres, rotate only front-to-back. When the tyres are rotated, make sure the air pressures are checked. The ABS, VSA and def lation warning system work by comparing the speed of the wheels. When replacing tyres, use the same size originally supplied with the vehicle. Tyre size and construction can af f ect wheel speed and may cause the system to work inconsistently.Af ter replacing tyres, initialise the def lation warning system to use it properly (see page ). It is best to replace all f our tyres at thesametime. If thatisnotpossible or necessary, replace the two f ront tyres or two rear tyres as a pair. Replacing just one tyre can seriously af f ect your vehicle’s handling. If you ever replace a wheel, make sure that the wheel’s specif ications match those of the original wheels. Consult your dealer bef ore replacing tyres. Replacement wheels are available at your dealer. If the tyres that came on your vehicle are directional tyres, they should be rotated only f ront-to-back. Af ter rotating tyres, initialise the def lation warning system to use it properly (see page ).427427 On vehicles with directional tyres Tyres Maint enance Replacing T yres and Wheels 506 09/01/28 18:40:49 32SMG631_511

´ ´ Because of the limited winter qualif ication of summer tyres f or winter use we recommend the use of winter tyres (M S tyres) on snowy and icy roads. If M S tyres are installed, all f our wheels should be equipped to insure saf e driving. Use only tyres of the same brand with the same profile. Pay attention to the tyre size, load capacity and speed class when buying. The sizes of wheels and tyres installed on your vehicle vary depending on models. See the tyre inf ormation label on the driver’s doorjamb or ask your dealer f or inf ormation on the proper size of the tyres on your vehicle.Install the winter tyres according to the remarks in the registration paper. According to the EEC Directive f or tyres, when winter tyres are used, it is necessary to af f ix a sticker with theallowablemax.speedof the winter tyres clearly in the f ield of view of the driver, if the designed max. speed of vehicle is higher than the allowed max. speed of winter tyre. A sticker is obtainable f rom your tyre dealer. If any questions arise, please discuss these with one of our dealers. Use snow chains only in an emergency or when they are legally required f or driving through a certain area. Install the snow chains on the f ront wheels. Use greater cautionwhendrivingwithsnow chains on snow or ice. They may have less-predictable handling than good winter tyres without chains. Some snow chains may damage the vehicle’s tyres, wheels, suspension, brake lines and body. Choose only f ine limbed chains which guarantee enough f ree space between the tyre and the other vehicle parts in the wheelhouse. Pay attention to the sectional assembly view and other directions f rom the chain manuf acturer. Consult your dealer bef ore purchasing any type of chains foryourvehicle. When you have installed tyre chains, driveatlessthan30km/h(19mph) on roads covered with snow or ice. To minimize tyre and chain wear, avoid driving on cleared roads with chains installed. You cannot install any type of tyre chains on your vehicle.
