Setting the Type of Telephone Line Set the type of telephone line that is connected to the machine. If this setting is incorrect, you will be unable to communicate with other machines. Basic Methods for Sending Faxes This section describes the flow of sending faxes. 1 Place documents. 2 Press [SEND/FAX]/ [FAX]. The SEND/FAX indicator lights up and the machine enters the send standby mode. 3 Press [SEND/FAX] repeatedly to select , then press [OK]. S E L E C T : O K F A X For the D1150, skip this step. 4 Use – , [numeric keys] and [Tone] to specify the fax number. T E L = 0 1 2 X X X X X X X F A X N U M B E R Ex. If you enter a wrong number when specifying a fax number, go back to the wrong digit with . 5 Press [Start]. When you place the documents on the platen glass, press or to select the document size, then press [Start] for each document. When scanning is complete, press [OK] to start sending. Calling the Recipient before Sending Fax Documents (Manual Sending) Use manual sending when you want to talk to the recipient before sending a document, or if the recipient does not have a fax machine that can receive automatically. You cannot use the platen glass for manual sending. You cannot use group addresses for manual sending. You cannot use 2-Sided scanning mode for manual sending. – – • • • – – –

For information on how to connect an external telephone to the machine, see “Make Fax Settings,” in the Starter Guide or “Connect Telephone Cables,” in the e-Manual. 2 Place documents in the ADF. 3 Press [SEND/FAX]/ [FAX]. 4 Press [SEND/FAX] repeatedly to select , then press [OK]. S E L E C T : O K F A X For the D1150, skip this step. 5 Adjust any necessary settings for your documents. For details, see “Adjusting Density,” on p. 6-29, “Selecting Image Quality, ” on p. 6-30, and “2- Sided Documents, ” on p. 6-31. 6 Press [Hook] or pick up the handset of your external telephone. If you press [Hook], you can temporarily adjust the monitor tone volume with and . After adjusting the volume, press [OK]. 7 Dial the recipient’s fax number. Make sure to confirm the dial tone before entering a fax number. If you enter the number before the dial tone is heard, the call may not connect, or the wrong number may be dialed. If in in is set to and you specify a fax number using – , [numeric keys] and [ Tone], you must enter the fax number again for confirmation. Enter the same fax number you entered in step 7, then press [OK]. – – 8 Talk through the handset to the recipient. If you press [Hook] in step 6, you can pick up the handset when you hear the recipient’s voice. If you hear a high-pitched signal instead of the recipient’s voice, skip to step 10. 9 Ask the recipient to set their fax machine to receive faxes. 10 When you hear a high-pitched signal, press [Start], then hang up the handset. Scanning starts, and the scanned data is sent to the specified destination when scanning is complete. Switching Temporarily to Tone Dialing If your machine is set for pulse dialing, follow the procedure below to switch to tone dialing to use information services (e.g., banks, airline reservations, and hotel reservations). To talk to the other party, you will need to connect an external telephone to the machine. 1 Press [SEND/FAX]/ [FAX]. – –

Make sure to confirm the dial tone before entering a fax number. If you enter the number before the dial tone is heard, the call may not be connected, or the wrong number may be dialed. 4 Use – [numeric keys] to dial the required information service. Dialing an Overseas Number (With Pauses) When you dial or register an overseas number, you may need to insert a pause within the number. 1 Place documents. 2 Press [SEND/FAX]/ [FAX]. 3 Press [SEND/FAX] repeatedly to select , then press [OK]. The letter is displayed between the numbers. You can enter successive pauses within the number to make the pause time longer. You can change the length of a pause inserted within the fax number in the menu. (See “Adjusting the Pause Time,” on p . 6-40.) 7 Enter the country code, the area code, and the fax/telephone number of the recipient. If in in is set to and you specify a fax number using – , [numeric keys] and [ Tone], you must enter the fax number again for confirmation. When you place the documents on the platen glass, press or to select the document size, then press [Start] for each document. When scanning is complete, press [OK] to start sending. Basic Methods for Sending PC Faxes This section describes the flow of sending PC faxes. Make sure that the fax driver is installed. For details on the fax driver settings, see “Fax,” in the e-Manual. If an error occurs in the printer while sending a fax, send the document once more from the fax driver. The fax job sent from the fax driver for which an error occurred will be erased. Up to 512 fax transmission recipients can be stored in the device. If the number of recipients exceeds 512 after a fax job has been sent to the device, the last job to be input will be erased. Be careful when registering more than 512 recipients in groups or when sending a fax continuously to multiple groups. Faxing methods may differ depending on the application you are using. For details, see the instruction manuals provided with the application software. The display may differ according to the operating system and system environment. 1 Open the document you want to fax from the application. 2 Select [Print] from the [File] menu. The [Print] dialog box is displayed. The procedure for displaying the [Print] dialog box may differ depending on the application you are using. – – – –
Fax (D1180/D1170/D1150) 6-17 Sending Fax Documents 3 Select the fax icon ([Canon D1100 Series (FAX)]), then click [Print] or [OK]. The [Fax Sending Settings] dialog box is displayed. If you want to adjust the fax properties, click [Preferences] or [Properties]. 4 Specify recipient name and fax number in the [Sending Settings] sheet, click [Add to Recipient List]. The number of recipients to which you can send simultaneously depends on the conditions of cover sheet attachment. For details, click [Help] in the bottom right-hand corner of the fax driver window to view the online help. You can select a recipient from the address book by clicking [Address Book]. (See “Fax,” in the e-Manual.) You can use or edit the address book only if you are permitted access to the folder where the address book file is saved (by default, Power Users and higher have access to the folder). If you are not permitted access to the folder, log on as a user who has access to the folder, or click [Specify a Folder] in the [Edit Address Book] sheet, and save the address book file in a folder, such as the [My Documents] folder, where you have written permission. (See “Fax,” in the e- Manual for changing where you save the address book.) – – – 5 If you want to attach a cover sheet, select [Cover Sheet] sheet, specify a format for the cover sheet. See “Fax,” in the e-Manual for cover sheet attachment. 6 Click [OK]. Faxing starts.

You can also cancel a transmission from the Status Monitor screen. You can select a destination stored in the Address Book, a one-touch key or coded dial code, or you can specify a new destination. Using Numeric Keys You can specify a new fax number using – , [numeric keys] and [Tone]. 1 Place documents. 2 Press [SEND/FAX]/ [FAX]. 3 Press [SEND/FAX] repeatedly to select , then press [OK].
