6 - 13 TROUBLESHOOTING HL7050_US_UG_FM5.5 4Put the paper tray back in the printer. 5Open the top cover of the printer, and then close it to resume printing. Do not pull out the upper paper tray while paper is feeding from a lower paper tray because this will cause a paper jam.
TROUBLESHOOTING 6 - 14 HL7050_US_UG_FM5.5 JAM B (paper jam inside the printer) If a paper jam occurs inside the printer, follow these steps: 1Open the top cover of the printer. 2Take out the drum unit assembly (drum unit with the toner cartridge). WARNING ■After you have just used the printer, some parts inside the printer are extremely hot. ■When you open the top cover of the printer, never touch the fuser or the fixing roller. Inside the printer Open the face-up output tray Figure 6-7 ■After you have removed the jammed paper, print a few test pages. This is to make sure that the printed pages have no toner stains on them before you restart the print job. ■Remove the jammed paper carefully so you do not spread toner. ■Take care not to stain your hands and clothes with toner. Wash toner stains immediately with cold water. JAM B Fuser is HOT!

Figure 6-8 4Push down the blue lock lever of the drum unit assembly and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit assembly. Remove a piece of jammed paper if there is any inside the drum unit. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, wipe or wash it off with cold water immediately. ■Do not touch the shaded parts shown in Figure 6-10 and 6-11.

6 - 17 TROUBLESHOOTING HL7050_US_UG_FM5.5 JAM C (paper jam where the paper comes out / paper jam in the face-up output tray) When the paper jams where the paper comes out or behind the face-up output tray, remove the jammed paper as follows: 1Use both hands to slowly pull the jammed paper from the paper exit. Figure 6-12 If a Duplex unit is on the printer, take it off the printer. After you pull out the jammed paper, put the Duplex unit back on the printer. JAM C

Figure 6-16 Look inside the printers slot for the Duplex unit to make sure that the jammed paper is not in there. When you pull out the Duplex unit, be sure to hold it firmly with both hands (the shaded part in the illustration is heavier). Figure 6-17
