    Installing extra DIMM memory
    When you install extra memory, follow these steps:  
    1Turn off the printer power switch, and then unplug the printer.  
    Disconnect the interface cable from the printer.
    2Remove the side cover.

    Make sure you turn the power to the printer OFF before you 
    install or remove the DIMM.

    3Loosen the three screws, and then remove the metal plate by 
    lifting it up slightly.

    4Unpack the DIMM and hold it by its edges.
    5Hold the DIMM with your fingers on the side edges and your 
    thumb on the back edge.  Line up the notches on the DIMM with 
    the DIMM slot.  (Check that the locks on each side of the DIMM 
    slot are open or facing outwards.)

    6Press the DIMM straight into the slot (press firmly). Make sure 
    the locks on each side of the DIMM click into place.  (To remove 
    a DIMM, you must release the locks.)

    7Secure the metal plate with the three screws.

    8Put the side cover back on.
    9Reconnect the interface cable to your printer. 
    Plug the printer back in, and then turn on the printer power 
    switch.   
    10To check whether the DIMM has been installed properly, you 
    can print the Print Settings listing that shows the current 
    memory size. To print the Print Settings listing, see Chapter 3.

    Hard disk drive (HD-EX)
    If you install an optional HDD, you can save macros, the print log, 
    fonts and print jobs on it.  After you store a print job, you can reprint 
    it from the control panel or through the network using a Web-
    browser.  See the sections on printing PROOF, PUBLIC and 
    SECURE data in Chapter 3.  
    Make sure that the box contains the following items:
    ■Hard disk
    ■Two hard disk cables
    ■Four shoulder screws
    ■Four screws (4)
    ■Quick Setup Guide

    Disconnect the interface cable from the printer.

    Use the longer cable for this printer model. The shorter cable

    4Put the four shoulder screws, supplied with the HDD unit, into 
    the bottom of the HDD.

    5Connect the longer hard disk cable to the HDD with the keyed 
    side facing up.

    6Install the HDD base plate by putting the four screws into the 
    four holes of the metal plate so that the HDD pins point to the 
    back of the printer.  Then secure the plate with the four screws.

    7Connect the flat cable to the main controller board.

    9Put the side cover back on.
    10Reconnect the interface cable to your printer. 
    Plug the printer back in, and then turn on the printer power 
    switch.
    11Format the HDD from the control panel. See Chapter 3 for

    Ir-DA interface (IR-1000)
    IR-1000 connects to any printer and prints data without using 
    connecting cables.
    ■ Supports IrDA1.1 infrar ed communication standard.
    ■  Fully compatible with Windows
    ® 95/98/Me, Windows NT® 4.0 
    and Windows®  2000  infrared printer device.
    ■ Transmits and receives data  at up to 4 MB a second.  
    ■ Connects to the parallel ports of  the computer and printer.  
    ■ Allows a printer to communicate with an infrared-equipped 
    portable computer.
    ■ Transmission range: 1 cm (3.9 in.)  up to 100 cm (39 in.), meets the 
    IrDA standard.
    ■ 30 degree cone angle.
    ■ Switches between infrared or parallel port.

    Optional font package (BS-3000)
    The optional font package (BS-3000) is the CD-ROM you need for 
    installing the 136 PS3 Agfa and TrueType Fonts.
    Optional barcode fonts package 
    (BT-1000)
    The optional Barcode fonts package (BT-1000) is the CD-ROM you 
    need for installing the Barcode fonts.

    5Routine maintenance
    Replacing the consumables
    You will need to replace the consumables regularly.  When the time 
    comes to replace consumables, the following messages will appear 
    on the LCD panel.
