5 - 12 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE HL7050_US_UG_FM5.5 Cleaning Clean the outside and inside of the printer with a dry soft cloth. When you replace the drum unit, make sure you clean the inside of the printer. If printed pages are stained with toner, clean the inside of the printer with a dry soft cloth. Cleaning the outside of the printer Clean the outside of the printer as follows: 1Turn off the printer power switch, and then unplug the printer power cord. 2Pull the paper tray out of the printer. 3Open the multi-purpose tray.

Figure 5-18 6Put the paper tray back in the printer, and then close the multi-purpose tray. 7Plug the printer power cord back in, and then turn the printer power switch back on.
5 - 14 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE HL7050_US_UG_FM5.5 Cleaning the inside of the printer Clean the inside of the printer as follows: 1Turn off the printer power switch, and then unplug the printer power cord. 2Open the top cover. 3Take out the drum unit assembly. When you clean the inside of the printer, pay attention to the following: ■If your clothes are smeared with toner, wipe off the toner with a dry cloth and immediately wash the clothes in cold water to avoid stains. ■Never touch the hot fuser. ■Be careful not to inhale the toner. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE 5 - 17 HL7050_US_UG_FM5.5 Cleaning the corona wire If you are experiencing print quality problems, please clean the corona wire as follows: 1Turn off the printer power switch, and then unplug the printer power cord. 2Open the top cover. 3Take out the drum unit assembly (drum unit with the toner cartridge). ■We recommend that you put the drum unit Assembly on a piece of disposable paper or cloth in case you accidentally spill the toner. ■To prevent damage to the printer from static electricity, do not touch the electrodes shown in Figure 5-23. Figure 5-24 5Put the drum unit assembly back in the printer. 6Close the top cover. 7Plug the printer power cord back in, and then turn the printer power switch back on. Make sure to return the tab to the Home position. If you do not, printed pages will have a black vertical stripe. Home Position ()

See What kind of paper can I use? in Chapter 1. NO TRAY ID XXXThe tray you are trying to print to has been taken out. Put the tray back in the printer. Wait a few seconds, then turn it on again. If this error message appears again, replace the CompactFlash card with a newone. HDD ERRORMake sure of the following points: ■The cable is connected correctly. ■The HDD is installed correctly. ■The installed HDD is formatted correctly. Turn off the printer. Wait a few seconds, then turn it on again. If this error message appears again, replace the HDD with a new one. CARD REMOVALTurn off the printer. Wait a few seconds, then turn it on again. If this error message appears again, replace the CompactFlash card with a new one. LINE ERRORCheck the serial interface settings (baud rate, code type, parity and handshake protocols). BUFFER ERRORCheck the Interface settings. STORAGE FULLDelete unnecessary macros or fonts, or replace the CompactFlash card or HDD with a new one. Error MessageAction
