Selecting a location for the printer When selecting a location for the printer, leave enough room to open trays, covers, and doors. You can: Make quick copies, or change the settings on the printer control panel to perform specific copy jobs. Send a fax using the printer control panel. Use the scanner glass for single pages, small items (such as postcards or photos), transparencies, photo paper, or thin media (such as magazine clippings). You can use the ADF or the scanner glass to scan documents. Using the ADF The ADF can scan multiple pages including duplex (two‑sided) pages. When using the ADF: Note: Duplex scanning is not available on selected printer models. Load the document into the ADF faceup, short edge first. Load up to 50 sheets of plain paper into the ADF. Scan sizes from 125 x 216 mm (4.9 x 8.5 in.) wide to 127 x 356 mm (5 x 14 in.) long. Scan media weights from 52 to 120 g/m2 (14 to 32 lb). Do not load postcards, photos, small items, transparencies, photo paper, or thin media (such as magazine clippings) into the ADF. Place these items on the scanner glass. Using the scanner glass The scanner glass can be used to scan or copy single pages or book pages. When using the scanner glass: Place a document facedown on the scanner glass in the corner with the green arrow. Scan or copy documents up to 215.9 x 355.6 mm (8.5 x 14 in.).
