Detail If NO SUITABLE PAPER appears in the display after AUTO is selected and the [Start] key is pressed, no paper tray or drawer is loaded with paper of the most suitable size. Either load paper with the appropriate size, or select a paper drawer, and then press the [Start] key again. Automatic tray switching feature With the automatic tray switching feature, copying/printing can continue with paper from a different paper drawer if the currently selected drawer runs out of paper during copying/printing. The automatic tray switching operation is performed if the currently selected paper drawer and another paper drawer (other than the manual bypass tray) meet the following conditions. -The paper loaded in the paper drawer is the same size. -The paper loaded in the paper drawer is the same type. -The paper loaded in the paper drawer is in the same orientation. -Either PLAIN or RECYCLE is selected for the type of paper loaded in each paper drawer. ! Detail If paper is loaded into the manual bypass tray, the automatic tray switching operation is not performed. If the optional multi bypass tray, 2nd paper drawer, 3rd paper drawer, 4th paper drawer and 5th paper drawer are installed, a maximum of 1,350 pages can be continuously copied/printed. When continuously copying/printing a large number of pages, load all paper drawers (except the manual bypass tray) with paper meeting the conditions listed above. If there is no paper in any paper drawer, a message appears indicating that paper must be replenished. Making copies5 bizhub 163/211 5-15Order for automatically switching paper drawers When automatic tray switching operation is performed, the next paper drawer in the following list is chosen. 1st paper drawer % 2nd paper drawer % 3rd paper drawer % 4th paper drawer % 5th paper drawer % Multi bypass tray ! Detail If a setting for special paper (such as overhead projector transparencies or label sheets) is selected for the 1st paper drawer or multi bypass tray, that paper drawer will not be selected automatically with the automatic tray switching feature. For details on selecting settings for special paper, refer to Specifying settings for the paper loaded into the 1st paper drawer (TRAY1 PAPER parameter) on page 7-24 or Copying onto manually fed paper (multi bypass tray) on page 5-31. A paper drawer with a special paper setting selected will not be selected automatically with the automatic tray switching feature. For details on selecting a setting for special paper, refer to Specifying special paper settings for paper drawers (PAPER TYPE parameter) on page 7-28. If the default paper drawer is selected in Utility mode, that paper drawer is selected as a default. 5Making copies 5-16 bizhub 163/211 5.4 Making copies on manually fed paper Manually feed the copy paper if you wish to make copies onto paper not loaded into any paper drawer or onto special paper, such as overhead projector transparencies, postcards or thick paper. 2 Reminder When copying with the manual bypass tray, load the paper one sheet at a time. ! 5Making copies 5-18 bizhub 163/211Loading plain paper into the bypass tray Load the paper into the manual bypass tray one sheet at a time. A maximum of 100 sheets of paper can be loaded into the multi bypass tray. Do not load so much paper into the multi bypass tray that the top of the stack is higher than the , mark. 2 Note When paper other than plain paper is loaded, the paper type setting must be specified from the control panel. 2 Reminder Load the paper so that the side to be printed on faces down.
