    Paper Is Jammed inside the Printer at the Transport  Unit
    Remove the paper following the procedure below.
    1.Detach the Rear Cover.
    2.Pull the paper out slowly.
    Note
    Be careful not to touch the components inside the printer.
    If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the printer off and turn it back on. The paper may be
    ejected automatically.
    3.Attach the Rear Cover.
    Push the left side of the Rear Cover until it is cl osed completely.
    If you were not able to remove the paper out in ste p 2:
    4.Remove the Cassette.

    							6.If any paper is sticking out of the Cassette, remove the paper, align and reload the
    paper in the Cassette. 
    If you did not remove the jammed paper out in step  1 to 5 when automatic duplex printing, check the
    duplex transport section.
    Jammed Paper Is Not Removed out W hen Automatic Dupl ex Printing
    Note
    W hen reloading the paper into the printer, confirm that you are using the correct paper and are
    loading it into the printer correctly.
    Loading Paper
    7.Insert the Cassette into the printer again, and press th e 
    RESUME/CANCEL  button
    on the printer. 
    If you turned off the printer in step 2, all print  jobs in queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.
    If you cannot remove the paper or the paper tears i nside the printer, or if the paper jam error continues
    after removing the paper, contact the service center.

    Jammed Paper Is Not Removed out When Automatic Dupl ex
    Printing
    Before removing the jammed paper, see Paper Is Jammed inside the Printer at the Transport  Unit to
    remove it from Transport Unit. If the paper jam err or continues, remove the jammed paper following the
    procedure below.
    1.Turn off the printer, and unplug the power cord of t he printer from the power supply.
    2.Remove the Cassette. 
    If the paper is loaded on the Rear Tray, remove the paper from the Rear Tray and retract the Paper
    Support.
    3.Set the printer upright with the left side down.
    4.Slowly pull the jammed paper out so that the paper d oes not tear.
    Note
    Set the printer back to its original position immediately after removing the jammed paper.
    5.Align the paper, then reload it in the Cassette.
    Reload paper in the Rear Tray, if necessary.

    W hen reloading the paper into the printer, confirm  that you are using the correct paper and are
    loading it into the printer correctly.

    6.Insert the Cassette into the printer again.
    7.Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back on .
    All print jobs in queue are canceled. Reprint if ne cessary.

    In Other Cases
    Make sure of the following:
    Check 1: Are there any foreign objects around the Paper Output Slot?
    Check 2: Are there any foreign objects in the Rear Tray?
    If there are any foreign objects in the Rear Tray, be sure to turn off the printer, unplug it from the
    power supply, then remove the foreign object.
    Check 3: Is the Rear Cover closed completely?
    Check 4: Is the paper curled?
    Check 3: Load the paper after correcting its curl.

    Error Number: **** A printer error has occurred. Tu rn the printer off and then on again. If

    5100 or 5110 Is Displayed 
    Confirm the movement of the Print Head Holder blocked.
    Cancel printing from your computer and turn off the  printer. Then clear the jammed paper or
    protective material that is preventing the Print He ad Holder from moving, and turn on the
    printer again.
    Important
    Be careful not to touch the components inside the p rinter. The printer may not print out
    properly if you touch it.

    							6000 Is Displayed 
    If any object is placed in front of the printer, remove it.
    Open the Paper Output Tray gently, then turn the po wer off and back on.
    Four-Digit Alphanumeric and Printer error has occu rred. Is Displayed
    Turn off the printer, and unplug the power cord of  the printer from the power supply.
    Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back  on.
    If the problem is not resolved, contact the service  center.
    Error Regarding Automatic Duplex Printing Is Displa yed
    Check: See Cannot Print Properly with Automatic Duplex Printing and take the
    appropriate action.
    Error Regarding Automatic Print Head Alignment Is D isplayed
    Check: See Eleven flashes: in Alarm Lamp Flashes Orange and take the
    appropriate action.
    Writing Error/Output Error/Communication Error
    Check 1: If the 
    Power lamp is off, make sure that the power plug is plug
    ged in,
    then turn the printer on. 
    W hile the  Power lamp is flashing green, the printer is initializin
    g. W ait until the 
    Power
     lamp
    stops flashing and remains lit green.
    Check 2: Make sure that the printer port is configu red appropriately in the printer
    driver. 
    * In the following instructions,  XXX signifies your printers name.
    1.Log on as a user account with administrator privile ge.
    2.Click Control Panel, then Printer under Hardware an d Sound.
    In W indows XP, click Control Panel, Printers and Ot her Hardware, then Printers and
    Faxes. 
    In W indows 2000, click Control Panel then Printers.
    3.Right-click the Canon XXX icon, then select Propert ies.
    4.Click the Ports tab to confirm the port settings. 
    Make sure that a port named USBnnn (where n is a number) with Canon XXX appearing
    in the Printer column is selected for Print to the  following port(s).
    If the port setting is not correct, reinstall the p rinter driver or change the port setting
    according to the interface you are using.
    Check 3: Make sure that the USB cable is securely p lugged in to the printer and
    the computer.
    If you are using a relay device such as a USB hub,  disconnect it, connect the printer
    directly to the computer, and try printing again. I f printing starts normally, there is a
    problem with the relay device. Consult the reseller  of the relay device for details.
    There could also be a problem with the USB cable. R eplace the USB cable and try
    printing again.
    Check 4: Make sure that the printer driver is insta lled correctly.Page 396 of 437 pages

    							Uninstall the printer driver following the procedure described in Deleting the Unnecessary
    Printer Driver, insert the Setup CD-ROM
     into the computers disc drive and perform Custom
    Install and select IJ Printer Driver to install aga in.
    Check 5: Check the status of the device on your com puter.
    Follow the procedure below to check the status of t he device.
    1.Click Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, then Devic e Manager.
    If the User Account Control screen is displayed, fo llow the on-screen instructions.
    In W indows XP, click Control Panel, Performance and  Maintenance, System, then click
    Device Manager on the Hardware sheet. 
    In W indows 2000, click Control Panel, System, then  Device Manager on the Hardware
    sheet.
    2.Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers then  USB Printing Support.
    If USB Printing Support is not displayed, make sure  that the printer is correctly connected
    to the computer.
    Check 3: Make sure that the USB cable is securely p lugged in to the printer and the
    computer.

    Click the General tab and make sure that there is n o indication of a problem with the
    device. 
    If a device error is displayed, refer to W indows he lp to resolve the error.
    Error Number: 300 Is Displayed
    Check 1: If the

    A page of print data being sent at the time of the  error will be erased, so print that page again.
    Error Number: 2001 Is Displayed

    action.
    Error Number: 2002 Is Displayed

    action.
    Error Number: 2500 Is Displayed

    action.
    Other Error Messages
    Check: If an error message is displayed outside the  printer status monitor, check
    the following:
    Could not spool successfully due to insufficient disk space 
    Delete any unnecessary files to increase the amount  of free space on the disk.
    Could not spool successfully due to insufficient memory 
    Quit other running applications to increase available m emory.
    If you still cannot print, restart your computer an d retry printing.
    Printer driver could not be found 
    Uninstall the printer driver according to the proce dure described in 
    Deleting the
    Unnecessary Printer Driver
    , and then reinstall it.
    Could not print Application name - File name 
    Try printing again once the current job is complete .Page 398 of 437 pages

    							The Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax Extended Survey Program Screen Is Displayed
    If the Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax Extended Survey Program is installed, a confirmation screen
    asking for permission to send the printer usage information will be displayed three months and
    then six months after the installation. After that, it will be displayed every six months for about fo ur
    years. 
    Read the instructions on the screen and follow the proced ure below.
    If you agree to participate in the survey program:
    Click Agree, then follow the on-screen instructions. The printer usage information will be sent
    via the Internet. If you have followed the on-screen instructions, the information will be sent
    automatically from the second time onward and the confi rmation screen will not be displayed
    again.
    Note
    W hen the information is being sent, a caution screen such as an Internet security screen
    may be displayed. In this case, confirm that the pr ogram name is IJPLMUI.exe, then
    allow it.
    If you deselect the Send automatically from the nex t time check box, the information will
    not be sent automatically from the second time onward a nd a confirmation screen will be
    displayed at the time of the next survey. To send t he information automatically, see 
    Changing the confirmation screen setting:.
    If you do not agree to participate in the survey pr ogram:
    Click Do not agree. The confirmation screen will be  closed, and the survey at that time is
    skipped. The confirmation screen will be displayed again  three months later.
    To uninstall the Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax Extende d Survey Program:
    To uninstall the Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax Extende d Survey Program, click Uninstall, then
    follow the on-screen instructions.
    Changing the confirmation screen setting:
    1. Select items the Start menu as shown below.
    In W indows Vista, select the Start menu > Control P anel > Uninstall a program.
    In W indows XP, select the Start menu > Control Pane l > Add or Remove
    Programs.
    In W indows 2000, select the Start menu > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove
    Programs.

    							Note
    In W indows Vista, a confirmation/warning dialog box may appear when installing,
    uninstalling or starting up software. 
    This dialog box appears when administrative rights are  required to perform a task.
    If you are logged on to an administrator account, c lick Continue or Allow to continue.
    2. Select Canon Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax Extended  Survey Program.
    3. Select Change. 
    If you select Yes after you have followed the on-sc reen instructions, the confirmation
    screen will be displayed at the time of the next su rvey.
    If you select No, the information will be sent auto matically.
    Note
    If you select Uninstall (or Remove), the Inkjet Printer /Scanner/Fax Extended Survey
    Program is uninstalled. Follow the on-screen instru ctions.
    The Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax Extended Survey Prog ram Icon Appears
    If the Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax Extended Survey Program is installed, the printer usage
    information is scheduled to be sent three months an d then six months after the installation. After
    that, it is scheduled to be sent every six months for about four years. The Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax
    Extended Survey Program icon appears in the Dock wh en it is time to send the printer usage
    information.
    In Mac OS X v.10.3.9, the Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax Extended Survey Program is not installed.
    Read the instructions on the screen after clicking  the icon, then follow the procedure below.
    If you agree to participate in the survey program:
    Click Agree, then follow the on-screen instructions . The printer usage information will be sent
