Changingthepowerstateforagroupofservers TheVirtualPowerButtonsectionontheGroupPowerpagedisplaysasummaryofthecurrent powerstateofthegroupedservers,includingthetotalnumberofserversthatareintheON,OFF, orResetstate.TheSystemPowersummaryindicatesthestateoftheserverpowerwhenthepage isfirstopened.UsethebrowserrefreshfeaturetoupdatetheSystemPowerinformation. Tochangethepowerstateforagroupofservers: 1.NavigatetotheiLOFederation→GroupPowerpage. 2.SelectagroupfromtheSelectedGroupmenu. Thegroupedserversarelistedbypowerstatewithacounterthatshowsthetotalnumberof serversineachstate. Alloftheserversintheselectedgroupwillbeaffectedbythechangesyoumakeonthispage. 3.Dooneofthefollowing: •TochangethepowerstateforserversthatareintheONorResetstate,clickoneofthe followingbuttonsontheleftsideofthepage: ◦MomentaryPress—Thesameaspressingthephysicalpowerbutton. Someoperatingsystemsmightbeconfiguredtoinitiateagracefulshutdownaftera momentarypress,ortoignorethisevent.HPrecommendsusingsystemcommands tocompleteagracefuloperatingsystemshutdownbeforeyouattempttoshutdown byusingtheVirtualPowerButton. ◦PressandHold—Thesameaspressingthephysicalpowerbuttonfor5secondsand thenreleasingit. Theserversintheselectedgrouparepoweredoffasaresultofthisoperation.Using thisoptionmightcircumventagracefuloperatingsystemshutdown. ThisoptionprovidestheACPIfunctionalitythatsomeoperatingsystemsimplement. Theseoperatingsystemsbehavedifferently,dependingonashortpressorlong press. UsingiLOFederation191
◦Reset—Forcestheserversintheselectedgrouptowarm-boot:CPUsandI/Oresources arereset.Usingthisoptioncircumventsagracefuloperatingsystemshutdown. ◦ColdBoot—Immediatelyremovespowerfromtheserversintheselectedgroup. Processors,memory,andI/Oresourceslosemainpower.Theserverswillrestart afterapproximately6seconds.Usingthisoptioncircumventsagracefuloperating systemshutdown. •TochangethepowerstateforserversthatareintheOFFstate,clicktheMomentaryPress buttonontherightsideofthepage. NOTE:ThePressandHold,Reset,andColdBootoptionsarenotavailableforservers thatareintheOFFstate. Aconfirmationdialogboxopens. 4.ClickOKtocontinue. iLOdisplaysaprogressbarwhilethegroupedserversrespondtotheVirtualPowerButton push.Theprogressbarindicatesthenumberofserversthatsuccessfullyprocessedthe command.
