Chapter 4 79Faxing „Paper Size and Type Load A4- or letter-size plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder or Cassette when you print the fax. Step1 Load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder (See “Loading the Print Media in the Auto Sheet Feeder” on page 27 ). Load paper in the Cassette (See “Loading the Print Media in the Cassette” on page 31 ). z The paper size should be A4, LTR or LGL. z Load legal-size paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder. Step2 Select the receive mode (See “Receive Modes” on page 80). z If you want to receive only faxes automatic ally with your machine, or you have a dedicated telephone line for fax use only: z If you receive mainly voice ca lls and sometimes faxes, or you want to receive faxes manually: z If you want to receive voice messages on y our answering machine and receive faxes automatically: z If you want to receive faxes automatically as well as voice calls: z If you have subscribed to a Di stinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD) service with your telephone company (US and Canada only): z If you want your machine to automatically sw itch between fax and voice calls by the call ring patterns (Network Switch) (This setting is not available in some countries and regions.): Note z You have to connect a telephone to the External Device Jack when you set , , , or . z You have to connect an answering machine to the External Device Jack when you set . Important z Load legal-size paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder. z If the paper size is set to a setting other than or , the received faxes will not be printed, and the LCD will display and . Change the paper size setting to or , and then press [OK]. z If a size of paper other than A4, 8.5 x 11 or 8.5 x 14 is loaded in the paper source specified under [Feed Switch], only one sheet of the loaded paper is printed and is displayed. Replace the paper loaded in the specified paper source with A4, 8.5 x 11 or 8.5 x 14 then press [OK]. z The auto feed function can be applied when the paper size for both paper sources is set to or . See “About the Auto Sheet Feeder and Cassette” on page 24 . Note If the sender sent documents larger than letter-size (8.5 x 11), such as 11 x 17 or legal-size (8.5 x 14), the sender’s machine may send the fa x, automatically shrinking or dividing it, or send only a part of the original.
80Chapter 4Faxing „Receive Modes Select the receive mode according to your needs. zIf You Want to Receive Only Faxes Automatically with Your Machine, or You Have a Dedicated Telephone Line for Fax Use Only: zSelect . z If You Receive Mainly Voice Calls and Sometimes Faxes, or You Want to Receive Faxes Manually: zSelect . Important The machine cannot receive faxes when the power is turned OFF. Press [ON/OFF] to turn the power ON. Note The machine can receive faxes in any mode, su ch as copy mode (when [COPY] is pressed), fax mode (when [FAX] is pressed), or scan mode (when [SCAN] is pressed). However, when the machine received faxes in other than fax mode, they will not be printed immediately after received but printed after about three minutes automatically. If you want to print the received faxes immediately, press [FAX]. zWhen you receive a fax call: The machine will receive the fax automatically. z When you receive a voice call: You wi ll not be able to answer the call. Note The telephone does not ring when it receives a fax call. If you want it to ring, connect a telephone to your machine and enable the setting (see “INCOMING RING” on page 95 ). You can also select the number of rings before the machine answers (See “INCOMING RING” on page 95 ). z When you receive a fax call: The telephone wi ll ring. Pick up the handset and if you hear a high-pitched signal, pres s [Black] or [Color] on the machine to receive the fax. z When you receive a voice call: The telephone will ring. Pick up the handset to answer the call. z For remote receiving: If you are far from your machine, dial 25 (the remote receiving ID) on your telephone to receive faxes.

Adjusting The Answering Machine Adjust your answering machine as follows: • Set the answering machine to answer on the first or second ring. • The entire message should be no longer than 15 seconds. • In the message, tell your callers how to send a fax. z If You Want to Receive Faxes Auto matically as well as Voice Calls: zSelect . Customizing FAX/TEL AUTO SW You can customize this mode to control pr ecisely how your machine handles incoming calls. You can adjust the time the machine take s to check whether a call is a fax or voice Note zThe machine can receive faxes automatically after the telephone rings for a specified length of time (See “MAN/AUTO SWITCH” on page 96 ). z You can customize remote receiving by enabl ing/disabling it, or by changing the remote receiving ID (See “REMOTE RX” on page 96 ). z If you have an answering machine connected to y our machine that can carry out remote- control operations (controlling your answeri ng machine from a remote telephone), the security code for this function may be the sa me as the remote receiving ID. If so, make sure you change the machine’s remote receiving ID to make it distinct from the answering machine’s security code (See “REMOTE RX” on page 96). z If the paper is not set on the sending side, your machine will go into the reception standby mode. z When you receive a fax call: First the answering machine connected to your machine will respond to an incoming call, and then the machine will receive faxes automatically. z When you receive a voice call : The answering machine connect ed to your machine will respond to an incoming call. Note The machine can receive faxes automatically af ter the telephone rings for a specified length of time (See “MAN/AUTO SWITCH” on page 96 ). z When you receive a fax call: The machine will receive the fax automatically. z When you receive a voice call: The machi ne will ring. Pick up the telephone or answering machine connected to your machine to answer the call. Note The telephone does not ring when it receives a fax call. Setting the Ring Pattern Your telephone company will assign a distin ctive ring pattern to each number when you order the DRPD service. Set the fax ring pattern that matches the pattern assigned by the telephone company. z If You Want Your Machine to Automatically Switch between Fax and Voice Calls by the Call Ring Patterns (Network Switch) (This setting is not available in some countries and regions.): zSelect . The machine identifies whether a call is fa x or not by ringing tone and receives it. „Setting the Receive Mode 1Press [FAX], then press [Menu]. 2Press [OK]. 3Use [ ] or [ ] to select the receive mode. Chapter 5 84Chapter 5Printing from Your Computer Printing from Your Computer This section describes the basic printing procedure, taking the steps to print documents as an example. Printing with Windows 1 Press [ON/OFF] to tu rn on the machine. See “Turning on the Machine” on page 18 . 2Load the paper in the machine. See “Loading Paper” on page 22 . 3Ensure that the proper paper source is selected. When the Auto Sheet Feeder Lamp (A) lights, paper is fed from the Auto Sheet Feeder. When the Cassette Lamp (B) lights, paper is fed from the Cassette. 4Create a document or open a file to print from the application software. 5Open the printer properties dialog box. (1)Select [Print] from the applicat ion software’s [File] menu. The [Print] dialog box opens. (2) Ensure that your machine is selected. Note zMenu and command names may differ between application softwares, and more steps may be required. For details, refer to the document ation for each application software you use. z The steps described in this section are for pr inting in Windows XP Service Pack 2 (hereafter, called Windows XP SP2). z If your machine is connected to a computer, you can send faxes using the fax driver from any application software that has a printing function. For details, refer to the FA X D r i v e r G u i d e. (1)Click [Media Type] to select the type of media loaded in the machine. (2) Ensure that [Paper Feed Switch] is selected from [Paper Source]. (3) Specify the print quality and other settings in [Print Quality] or [Color/Intensity]. (4) Click [OK]. The [Printing Preferences] screen is closed. If it does not match the document size set by the application softwa re, select the matching page size. z This section describes the procedure for se lecting [Paper Feed Switch] from [Paper Source]. For a detailed description of the [Paper Source] settings, refer to the Printer Driver Guide . z For details about other printer driver functions, click [Instructions] or [Help] to view the Printer Driver Guide . [Instructions] is only displayed when the Printer Driver Guide is installed. z Selecting the [Preview before printing] check box displays a preview screen that allows you to confirm the selected printing effects and how your document will look when printed. Some application softwares do not have a preview function. Note z You can cancel a print job in progress by simply pressing [Stop/Reset] on the machine. z Click [Cancel Printing] on Canon IJ Status Mo nitor to stop printing. To show Canon IJ Status Monitor, click [Canon MP530 Series Printer] on the taskbar. Note z Menu and command names may differ between application softwares, and more steps may be required. For a detailed description of the [Paper Source] settings, refer to the Printer Driver Guide . z When you select the print mode appropriate to your document from [Print Mode], the document will be printed in color and at a print quality suited to the characteristics of the [Media Type] you have selected. – [Printing a top-quality photo]: Select w hen printing documents consisting mainly of photographs and graphics featuring fine color gradation. – [Printing tables and charts]: Select when prin ting documents consisting mainly of graphs and graphics (illustrations) wi th strong color definition. – [Printing a composite document]: Select when printing documents consisting mainly of text. – [Detailed Setting]: Select to fine-tune t he [Print Quality] and [Halftoning] settings. z For details about other printer driv er functions, click to view the Printer Driver Guide. If the Printer Driver Guide is not installed, the Printer Driver Guide is not displayed even if is clicked. z Clicking [Preview] displays a preview screen that allows you to confirm the selected printing effects and how your document will l ook when printed. Some application softwares do not have a preview function. Note Double-clicking the name of your machine in the [P rinter list] of the [Printer Setup Utility] (When using Mac OS X v.10.2, double- clicking the name of your machine in the [Printer list] of the [Print Center]) displays a dialog that prompts you to confirm the status of the print job(s). To cancel a job in progress, select the desir ed document, then click [Delete]. To temporarily stop a job in progress, click [Hold].
