    Making Copies
    This section describes the basic procedure to make copies.
    1Prepare for copying.
    (1)Press [ON/OFF] to turn on the machine.
    See  “Turning on the Machine” on page 18 .
    (2) Press [COPY].
    (3) Load paper.
    See  “Loading Paper” on page 22 .
    (4) Ensure that the proper paper source is selected.
    See  “Changing the Paper Source” on page 26 .
    (5) Load the document on the Platen Glass or in the ADF.
    2Start copying.
    (1)Check the page size and media type.
    (A) Ratio of Reduction/Enlargement
    (B) Page Size
    (C) Print Quality
    (D) Number of Copies
    (E) Media Type
    (F) Intensity
    (2) Use [ ] or [ ] to specify the number of copies.
    Note
    Press [Feed Switch] so that the Auto Sheet  Feeder Lamp lights when loading paper in the 
    Auto Sheet Feeder and the Cassette Lamp lights when loading paper in the Cassette.
    Note
    For information on the types and conditions  of documents which you can copy, see “Loading 
    Documents” on page 19 .
    Note
    Press [Paper] to change the page size, or media type. See  “Changing the Page Size and 
    Media Type” on page 37 .

    The machine starts copying.
    Changing the Copy Settings
    You can change the copy settings such as the  reduction/enlargement, intensity, or image quality.
    For details on changing the page size and media type, see  “Changing the Page Size and Media 
    Type” on page 37 .
    „Reducing or Enlarging a Copy
    You can reduce or enlarge copies using three different methods:
    The following sections describe how to use these methods.
    zUsing Preset Copy Ratios
    Preset copy ratios are c onvenient when changing between standard page sizes, for example, 
    reducing A4 to A5 size, or enlarging 4 x 6 to letter size.
    1Press [Enlarge/Reduce].
    2Use [ ] or [ ] to select , then press [OK].
    3Use [ ] or [ ] to select the preset ratio.
    25% / 70% / 86% / 100% / 115% / 141% / 400%
    zPressing [ ] decreases the copy rati o and pressing [ ] increases the ratio.
    z Press and hold down [ ] or [ ] to quickly advance through the ratios.
    4Press [OK].
    z Using Custom Copy Ratios (Zoom)
    In addition to making reduction and enlargement decis ions using preset copy ratios, you can use 
    customized 1% decrement/increment.
    1Press [Enlarge/Reduce].
    Note
    For information on the types and conditions  of documents which you can copy, see “Loading 
    Documents” on page 19 .
    Note
    zTo cancel copying, press [Stop/Reset].
    z The machine can also receive faxes in  copy mode (when [COPY] is pressed).
    Preset copy ratios: You can select one of the  preset ratios to reduce or enlarge copies.
    Custom copy ratios 
    (Zoom): You can specify the copy ratio as
     a percentage to reduce or enlarge 
    copies.
    Automatic ratios 
    (Fit to Page): The machine automatically reduces or
     enlarges the image to fit the page 
    size.

    3Use [ ] or [ ] to select a copy ratio by the percent between 25% and 400%.
    zPressing [ ] decreases the copy rati o and pressing [ ] increases the ratio.
    z Press and hold down [ ] or [ ] to quickly advance through the ratios.
    4Press [OK].
    z Using Automatic Copy Ratios (Fit To Page)
    You can set the machine to automatically reduce or enlarge the document to fit the page size 
    you selected in .
    1Press [Enlarge/Reduce].
    2Use [ ] or [ ] to select .
    3Press [OK].
    The message  appears on the LCD.
    „Adjusting Exposure (Intensity)
    Exposure (intensity) is the degree of difference  between light and dark. Increasing the exposure 
    setting further blackens dark areas and whitens  bright areas. Conversely, decreasing the 
    exposure setting reduces the difference between  bright and dark areas. You can adjust the 
    exposure between five gradations.
    1Press [Exposure].
    2Use [ ] or [ ] to select the  or .
    3Press [OK].
    Note
    The ratio can be also input by using the numeric buttons.
    Note
    When  is selected, the document loaded in the ADF cannot be scanned.
    Note
    If the document is not properly reduced or enlarged to fit the page size, use preset or custom 
    copy ratios and try copying again.

    zIf you select  in step 2, use [ ] to decrease the density, or use [ ] to 
    increase the density, then press [OK].
    z If you select  in step 2, the screen below appears on the LCD.
    „ Adjusting Image Quality
    You can adjust the image quality according to the document to be copied.
    1Press [Image Quality].
    2Use [ ] or [ ] to select the image quality.
    3Press [OK].
    „Copying onto Both Sides of the Paper (Two-sided copy)
    You can copy two document pages onto t he sides of a single sheet of paper.
    (A) Long-side stapling
    (B) Short-side stapling
    Procedure:
    1Press [Two-Sided] to select .
    2Use [ ] or [ ] to select  or .
    Note
    When  is selected, t he document loaded in the ADF cannot be scanned.
    STANDARD: Suitable for text-only documents.
    HIGH: Suitable for photographs.
    FAST: Suitable for high speed copying at a lower image quality.
    Note
    z When using , if the quality is not as  good as expected, select  or 
     and try copying again.
    z Select  to copy in  grayscale. Grayscale renders t ones in a range of grays instead 
    of black or white.
    LONG-SIDE STAPLE: Staples on the long side of the paper.
    SHORT-SIDE STAPLE: Staples on the short side of the paper.

    zWhen the document was loaded on the Platen Glass:
    When the first sheet of document finishes to  be scanned, the message below is displayed.
    If you have another sheet of document to scan, load it on the Platen Glass and press 
    [Start].
    If you do not need more scanning, press [OK].
    z When the document was loaded in the ADF:
    The machine starts scanning the next sheet of document automatically after one sheet of 
    document is scanned in.
    Note
    When you copy the second sheet of document,  press the same [Start] button ([Black] or 
    [Color]) as the first operation after load ing the second sheet on the Platen Glass.
    Note
    zThe ADF is not available for scanni ng two-sided documents at a stretch.
    z This function cannot be used in conjunc tion with  under  or other copy functions.
    z If you perform black & white copying for two- sided copy, print intensity may be different 
    from when performing black & whit e copying for single-sided copy.
    z This function can only be used when the page size  is set to  (215 x 279) or .
    z The media type is fixed to . You cannot change this setting.

    Using Useful Copy Functions
    „Special Copy
    You can copy in various layouts.
    1Prepare for copying.
    See  “Prepare for copying.” on page 40 .
    2Select the copy menu.
    (1)Press [Menu].
    The SPECIAL COPY screen is displayed.
    (2) Use [ ] or [ ] to select the copy function.
    „Copying Two Pages to Fit onto a Single Page (2-on-1 copy)
    This feature enables you to copy  two documents (A) and (B) onto a single sheet (C) of paper by 
    reducing each image.
    Procedure:
    1Display the Special copy screen.
    See  “Special Copy” on page 45 .
    2-ON-1: See 
    “Copying Two Pages to Fit onto a Single Page (2-on-1 
    copy)” on page 45 .
    4-ON-1: See  “Copying Four Pages to Fit onto a Single Page (4-on-1

    The machine starts scanning in the next sheet  of document automatically after one sheet of 
    document is scanned in.
    „ Creating Stickers (Sticker copy)
    You can easily make stickers from 4 x 6  / 101.6 x 152.4 mm photos or graphics using Canon 
    Photo Stickers.
    Note
    You cannot specify  for this function.
    Note
    When you copy more than one sheet of document,  press the same [Start] button ([Black] or 
    [Color]) as the first operation after l oading each sheet on the Platen Glass.

    zThis function cannot be used in c onjunction with other copy functions.
    z If  appears on the LCD when scanning, set the image quality to 
     or  and try copying again.
    z This function can be used only when page size  is set to  (215 x 279) or .

    2Load the document on the Platen Glass.

    4Use [ ] or [ ] to select .
    You can only print in the 4 x 4 layout though other layouts appear on the LCD.
    Use the special sheets of stickers.
    5Press [OK].
    6Specify the necessary items.

    7Press [Color] for color copying, or [Black] for black & white copying.
    „Copying without Borders (Borderless copy)
    This feature enables you to copy color images so  that they fill the entire page without borders.
    Note
    This function cannot be used in conjunction with other copy functions.
    Note
    The document loaded in the ADF cannot be scanned.
    Note
    zYou cannot specify the page size, media type,  or  as the intensity  when using this function.
    z The image quality is fixed to .  Change the setting of the image quality as 
    necessary after creating stickers.
    Note
    z Load stickers in the Auto Sheet Feeder when using this function.
    z You can only load one sheet of stickers at a  time in the Auto Sheet Feeder when using this 
    function.
