    Pr eparation for Pr otocol Settings
    Before y ou  s pec ify t he mac hine’s  p rot oc ol s ett ings,  yo u 
    m ust  spec ify th e mac hin e’s  IP  ad dre ss t o ena ble  
    c o mm unic ation  betwee n the ma ch ine  and  your  co mput ers. 
    Y ou ca n use a n y of  the  fo llo wing to  s pec ify t he se ttin gs.
    – Machin e’s  ope ratio n pane l (Add it io nal Func tions me nu)
    – AR P/PIN G comma nds
    – Net Sp ot De vice Ins taller ( Canon ut ility s o ft ware)
    NO TE
    –In the f ollo win g operation s in  this section , th e ma chine ’s MA C 
    a ddre ss is ne cessar y. T o che ck the MA C address fro m the machi ne’s 
    o peration pa nel, pr int a USER’S D ATA  LIST . (See Cha pte r 13, 
    “Machine  Settings,”  in the Basic Guide .)
    – If y ou  are  using  ARP/PIN G commands , the fo llo wing  steps d irectly 
    a llo ca te the  IP  a ddress  to the  mach ine. F or this  machin e,  in  a dditio n 
    to di rect all ocation  o f the IP ad dress to the machin e, y ou can  u se  
    D HCP , BOO TP, or RARP to spe cif y the IP ad dress. Wh en th e 
    ma chine  is star ted or  rese t, it  checks  w het he r DH CP, BOO TP,  o r 
    R ARP  is  bein g used , and then a lloca tes the IP add ress using  the  first 
    a vail able se tting  metho d. Beca use the ma chine ’s  IP a ddress  is 
    automatically alloca ted at this t im e, it  is not  neces sary f o r y ou t o 
    p erf or m the  fo llo wing  ope ra tio ns i n th is se ction. Ho weve r  if y ou a re 
    re allo cating the IP ad dress, or if  DHCP, BOO TP, or RARP  cannot be 
    u sed,  perf orm  the  fo llo wing  operatio ns. –
    You  can  mai ntain secur ity by setti ng a r an ge of  IP add resses  of 
    compu te rs that  are allo wed  to obtai n access  to the machin e.
    Once y ou set the  ra n ge o f IP a ddresses  of computers o n wh ich items 
    f o r the machin e can be set  or b ro w sed,  it  is not possib le to u se  the  
    Re mo te UI on computers whose  IP  addre sse s are  not  allowed; a  
    util ity on  the compu te rs cann ot be used to  set or bro wse de tailed  
    in fo rm ation conce rni ng the machin e.
    Once  you  set the  range of  IP ad dresses  of computers from  which 
    da ta (pr int/f ax job)  can  be sen t  to  the  machi ne, the  machi ne reje cts 
    da ta sen t from  compu te rs wh ose IP add resses are not allo wed . F or 
    in str uctio ns on ho w to sp ecify  the  IP a ddress  ra n ge, se e “TCP/IP 
    Settings ,”  o n p .3-16.

    mask n umber , then press [OK].

    Confirm tha t  is 
    displa yed, then press [OK].
    13.
    Use the n umeric ke ys to enter the gate way  
    ad dress n umber , then press [OK].
    14.
    Press [Stop] to return  to standby mode.
    15.

    machin e. Th e IP addre ss consi sts of f ou r n u mbe rs r angin g from 0 
    to 255 with “. ” as the breakpoin t.
    :  Specify the  MAC address  of the machi ne. 
    Ev ery second  digit is separated b y “-”.
    Input Example:  arp -s 172 .20.88.125  00-00-8 5-05-70 -31

    Execute the applicable command belo w to 
    set the IP address to  the network boar d.ping    -l 479 
     : Specify the same address as th e IP address yo u

    ■ Settings Using NetSpot De vice Installer1.
    Insert the CD-R OM supplied with the mac hine 
    into the CD-R OM drive .
    2.
    Double-click the [My Co mputer] icon on the 
    desk top  → right-c lick the  CD-R OM drive icon 
    →  select [Open].
    3.
    In the [NetSpot_De vice_ Installer] f older on 
    the CD-R OM, run [nsdi].
    4.
    Fr om the list, select  the device whose name 
    (listed under [De vice Name]) is the MA C 
    address of the mac hine with  displa yed in [Status].
    5.
    Right-click the selected de vice → select 
    [Initial S ettings].
    6.
    In the [Initial Settings]  dialog box, specify the
