    When you want to quickly change the copy 
    settings temporarily for the next copy, use the 
    temporary Copy keys. You can use different 
    combinations.
     
    The machine returns to its default settings 
    after 60 seconds or if the Mode Timer returns 
    the machine to Fax mode. (See Mode timer 
    on page 20.)
    Enlarging or reducing the 
    image copied12
    You can choose the following enlargement or 
    reduction ratios:
    Custom(25-400%) allows you to enter a 
    ratio from 25% to 400%.To enlarge or reduce the next copy follow the 
    instructions below:
    aMake sure you are in Copy mode  .
    bLoad your document.
    cUse the dial pad to enter the number of 
    copies (up to 99).
    dPress Enlarge/Reduce.
    eDo one of the following:
    „Press a or b to choose the 
    enlargement or reduction ratio you 
    want.
    PressOK.
    „Press a or b to choose 
    Custom(25-400%).
    PressOK.
    Use the dial pad to enter an 
    enlargement or reduction ratio from 
    25% to 400%. (For example, press 
    53 to enter 53%.)
    PressOK.
    fPress Mono Start or Colour Start .
    Note
    Page Layout Options 2in1(P), 
    2in1(L), 4in1(P) or 
    4in1(L) are not available with 
    Enlarge/Reduce.

    Use the Options key to quickly set the following copy settings temporarily for the next copy.

    Changing copy quality12
    You can choose from a range of quality 
    settings. The default setting is Auto.
    „Auto
    Auto is the recommended mode for 
    ordinary printouts. Suitable for documents 
    that contain both text and photographs.
    „Text
    Suitable for documents containing only 
    text.
    „Photo
    Suitable for copying photographs.
    To temporarily change the quality setting, 
    follow the steps below:
    aMake sure you are in Copy mode  .
    bLoad your document.
    cUse the dial pad to enter the number of 
    copies (up to 99).
    dPress Options. Press a or b to choose 
    Quality.
    PressOK.
    ePress a or b to choose Auto, Text or 
    Photo.
    PressOK.
    fPress Mono Start or Colour Start.
    To change the default setting, follow the 
    steps below:
    aPress Menu, 3, 1. 
    Copy
    1.Quality
    bPress a or b to choose the copy quality.
    PressOK.
    cPress Stop/Exit.
    Sorting copies using the ADF12
    You can sort multiple copies. Pages will be 
    stacked in the order 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 1 2 3, and so 
    on.
    aMake sure you are in Copy mode  .
    bLoad your document in the ADF.
    cUse the dial pad to enter the number of 
    copies (up to 99).
    dPress Options. Press a or b to choose 
    Stack/Sort.
    PressOK.
    ePress a or b to choose Sort.
    PressOK.
    fPress Mono Start or Colour Start.

    Adjusting brightness, 
    contrast and colour12

    Adjust the copy brightness to make copies 
    darker or lighter.
    To temporarily change the copy brightness 
    setting, follow the steps below:
    aMake sure you are in Copy mode  .
    bLoad your document.
    cUse the dial pad to enter the number of 
    copies (up to 99).
    dPress Options.
    Press a or b to choose Brightness.
    PressOK.
    ePress a to make a lighter copy or press 
    b to make a darker copy. 
    PressOK.
    fPress Mono Start or Colour Start.
    To change the default setting follow the steps 
    below:
    aPress Menu, 3, 2. 
    Copy
    2.Brightness
    bPress a to make a lighter copy or press 
    b to make a darker copy.
    PressOK.
    cPress Stop/Exit.
    Contrast12
    Adjust the contrast to help an image look 
    sharper and more vivid.
    To temporarily change the contrast setting, 
    follow the steps below:
    aMake sure you are in Copy mode  .
    bLoad your document.
    cUse the dial pad to enter the number of 
    copies (up to 99).
    dPress Options.
    Press a or b to choose Contrast. 
    PressOK.
    ePress a or b to increase or decrease the 
    contrast.
    PressOK.
    fPress Mono Start or Colour Start.
    To change the default setting follow the steps 
    below:
    aPress Menu, 3, 3. 
    Copy
    3.Contrast
    bPress a or b to increase or decrease the 
    contrast.
    PressOK.
    cPress Stop/Exit.

    Colour Adjust12
    You can change the default setting for colour 
    saturation.
    To change the default setting follow the steps 
    below:
    aPress Menu, 3, 4. 
    Copy
    4.Color Adjust
    bPress a or b to choose 1.Red, 2.Green 
    or 3.Blue.
    PressOK.
    cPress a or b to increase or decrease the 
    colour saturation.
    PressOK.
    dReturn to b to choose the next colour. 
    Or press Stop/Exit.
    Making N in 1 copies 
    (page layout)12
    You can reduce the amount of paper used 
    when copying by using the N in 1 copy 
    feature. This allows you to copy two or four 
    pages onto one page, which lets you save 
    paper.
    Important12
    „Please make sure the paper size is set to 
    Letter, A4, Legal or Folio.
    „(P) means Portrait and (L) means 
    Landscape.
    „You cannot use the Enlarge/Reduce 
    setting with the N in 1 feature.
    aMake sure you are in Copy mode  .
    bLoad your document.
    cUse the dial pad to enter the number of 
    copies (up to 99).
    dPress Options.
    Press a or b to choose Page Layout.
    PressOK.
    ePress a or b to choose 2in1(P), 
    2in1(L), 4in1(P), 
    4in1(L) or Off(1 in 1).
    PressOK.
    fPress Mono Start or Colour Start to 
    scan the page.
    If you placed the document in the ADF, 
    the machine scans the pages and starts 
    printing.
    If you are using the scanner glass, go 
    tog.
    gAfter the machine scans the page, 
    press1 to scan the next page.
     
    Next Page?
    1.Yes 2.No
    hPut the next page on the scanner glass.
    PressOK.
    Repeat g and h for each page of the 
    layout.
    iAfter all the pages have been scanned, 
    press 2 in g to finish.

    ePress a or b to choose the MP>T1, 
    T1>MP, #1(XXX)1 and MP(XXX)1.
    PressOK.
    fPress Mono Start or Colour Start.
    1XXX is the paper size you set in Menu, 1, 3.
    Note
    • T2 or #2 appears only if the optional paper 
    tray is installed.
    • To change the default setting for Tray 
    Select, see Tray use in copy mode 
    on page 21.

    Out of memory 
    message

    If the memory becomes full while you are 
    making copies, the LCD message will guide 
    you through the next step.
    If you get an Out of Memory message 
    while scanning a subsequent page, you will 
    have the option to press Mono Start or 
    Colour Start to copy the pages scanned so 
    far, or to press Stop/Exit to cancel the 
    operation.
    To make extra memory available, you can do 
    the following:
    „Print the faxes that are in the memory. 
    (See Printing a fax from the memory 
    on page 43.)
    „Turn off Fax Storage. (See Turning off 
    remote fax options on page 59.) 
    „Add optional memory (See Memory board 
    on page 102.)
    Note
    When you get an Out of Memory 
    message, you may be able to make 
    copies if you first print incoming faxes in 
    the memory to restore the memory to 
    100%.

    Your Brother machine supports the 
    PictBridge standard, allowing you to connect 
    to and print photos directly from any 
    PictBridge compatible digital camera.
    Even if your camera is not in PictBridge mode 
    or does not support PictBridge, you can still 
    print photos from a digital camera in mass 
    storage mode. (See Connecting a camera as 
    a storage device on page 82.)

    To avoid errors, remember the following 
    points:
    „The machine and the digital camera must 
    be connected using a suitable USB cable.
    „The image file must be taken with the 
    digital camera you want to connect to the 
    machine.

    Setting your digital camera13
    Make sure your camera is in PictBridge 
    mode. The following PictBridge settings may 
    be available from the LCD of your PictBridge 
    compatible camera.
    „Copies
    „Quality
    „Paper size
    „Date print
    „File name print
    „Layout
    Note
    The names and availability of each setting 
    depends on the specification of your 
    camera.
     
    You can also set the following PictBridge 
    settings by using the control panel.
    1If you choose the paper size Letter, A4 or B5, Portrait 
    will be choosen. If you choose A5, B6 or A6, 
    Landscape will be chosen.
