    ELECTRIC STARTING SYSTEM

    TROUBLESHOOTING
    The starter motor fails to turn.
    NOTE:
     Before troubleshooting, remove the following part(s):
    1.Seat
    2.Front cowling inner panel
    3.Fuel tank
    4.Left side coverNG→

    OK ↓
    NG→
    OK ↓
    NG→
    OK ↓
    1. Check the fuses.
    (Main and ignition)
    Refer to CHECKING THE 
    FUSES on page 8-113. Replace the fuse(s).
    2. Check the battery. Refer to CHECKING AND 
    CHARGING THE BATTERY on 
    page 8-114.  Clean the battery terminals.
     Recharge or replace the battery.
    3. Check the starter motor. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    STARTER MOTOR on page 5-38. Repair or replace the starter motor.
    4. Check the starting circuit cut-off  relay.
    Refer to CHECKING THE 
    RELAYS on page 8-117. Replace the starting circuit cut-off 
    relay.
    5. Check the starter relay. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    RELAYS on page 8-117. Replace the starter relay.
    6. Check the main switch. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    SWITCHES on page 8-109. Replace the main switch.
    7. Check the engine stop switch. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    SWITCHES on page 8-109. Replace the right handlebar switch.

    8. Check the neutral switch.
    Refer to CHECKING THE 
    SWITCHES on page 8-109. Replace the neutral switch.
    9. Check the sidestand switch. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    SWITCHES on page 8-109. Replace the sidestand switch.
    10. Check the clutch switch. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    SWITCHES on page 8-109. Replace the clutch switch.
    11. Check the start switch. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    SWITCHES on page 8-109. Replace the right handlebar switch.
    12. Check the entire starting system’s  wiring.
    Refer to CIRCUIT DIAGRAM on 
    page 8-1. Properly connect or repair the starting 
    system’s wiring.
    The starting system circuit is OK.

    TROUBLESHOOTING
    The battery is not being charged.
    NOTE:
     Before troubleshooting, remove the following part(s):
    1.Seat
    2.Front cowling inner panel

    OK ↓
    1. Check the fuse.
    (Main)
    Refer to CHECKING THE 
    FUSES on page 8-113. Replace the fuse.
    2. Check the battery. Refer to CHECKING AND 
    CHARGING THE BATTERY on 
    page 8-114.  Clean the battery terminals.
     Recharge or replace the battery.
    3. Check the stator coil. Refer to CHECKING THE STA-
    TOR COIL on page 8-124. Replace the stator coil assembly.
    4. Check the rectifier/regulator. Refer to CHECKING THE REC-
    TIFIER/REGULATOR on page 8-
    124. Replace the rectifier/regulator.
    5. Check the entire charging sys- tem’s wiring.
    Refer to CIRCUIT DIAGRAM on 
    page 8-1. Properly connect or repair the charg-
    ing system’s wiring.
    Replace the rectifier/regulator.

    TROUBLESHOOTING
    Any of the following fail to light: headlight, high beam indicator light, taillight, license light or meter 
    light.
    NOTE:
     Before troubleshooting, remove the following part(s):
    1.Seat
    2.Front cowling inner panel
    3.Fuel tank
    4.Side cover

    NG→
    OK ↓
    1. Check the each bulbs and bulb 
    sockets condition.
    Refer to CHECKING THE BULBS 
    AND BULB SOCKETS on page 
    8-112. Replace the bulb(s) and bulb 
    socket(s).
    2. Check the fuses. (Main, headlight and tail)
    Refer to CHECKING THE 
    FUSES on page 8-113. Replace the fuse(s).
    3. Check the battery. Refer to CHECKING AND 
    CHARGING THE BATTERY on 
    page 8-114.  Clean the battery terminals.
     Recharge or replace the battery.
    4. Check the main switch. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    SWITCHES on page 8-109. Replace the main switch.
    5. Check the dimmer switch. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    SWITCHES on page 8-109. The dimmer switch is faulty. Replace 
    the left handlebar switch.
    6. Check the pass switch. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    SWITCHES on page 8-109. The pass switch is faulty. Replace the 
    left handlebar switch.
    7. Check the headlight relay. Refer to CHECKING THE 
    RELAYS on page 8-117. Replace the headlight relay.
