Xerox Color 550/560 PrinterUser Guide283 Troubleshooting Control Panel Messages The control panel touch screen provides information and troubleshooting \ help. When an error or warning condition occurs, the touch screen displays a message. The touch screen may also d\ isplay an animated graphic showing the location of the problem, such as the location of a paper jam. Problems which prevent the full operation of the printer have associated\ fault codes. These codes will help pinpoint the specific subsystem with the problem. Current faults and fault histor\ y can be retrieved at any time. To see a list of the fault messages that have been displayed on the prin\ ter: Press the Machine Status button. 1. Xerox Color 550/560 Printer User Guide 284 Troubleshootin g General Troubleshooting This section contains procedures to help you locate and resolve problems\ . Some problems can be resolved by simply restarting the printer. To restart the printer, see Turning the Printer Off. If the problem is not resolved by restarting the printer, see the table \ in this chapter that best describes the problem. Probable Causes Solutions The power switch is not correctly turned on. Turn off the printer using the power switch visible on the control Panel. Wait two minutes, then turn the printer on. Ensure that the main power switch behind the front cover of the printer is in the On position. The power cord is not correctly plugged into the outlet. Turn off the printer, and plug the power cord securely into the outlet. Something is wrong with the outlet connected to the printer. Plug another electrical appliance into the outlet and see whether it operates properly. Try a different outlet. The printer is connected to an outlet with a voltage or frequency that does not match the printer specifications. Use a power source with the specifications listed in Electrical Specifications. CAUTION: Plug the three-wire power cord (with grounding prong) directly into a \ grounded AC outlet only. Do not use a power strip. It takes more time to print with special media. Make sure that the media type is set properly in the printer driver and at the printer control panel. The printer is in power saving mode. It takes time for printing to start in power saving mode. The job is very complex. Wait. No action needed. Printing Takes Too Long Probable Causes Solutions The power cord is not correctly plugged into the outlet. Turn off the printer, confirm that the power cord is correctly plugged into the printer and the outlet, then turn on the printer. A system error occurred. There is an obstruction or debris inside the printer. Turn off the printer and remove the obstruction or debris. If you cannot remove it, contact your Xerox service representative. Printer Is Making Unusual Noises Probable Causes Solutions Media or settings are not correct. Make sure that you are using correct media. For details, see Supported Media. Envelopes, labels, gloss, and extra heavyweight stock cannot be used for 2-Sided Printing. Xerox Color 550/560 Printer User Guide 288 Troubleshootin g Clearing Paper Jams To avoid damage, always remove misfed media gently, without tearing it. \ Try to remove the paper in the direction that the paper would normally feed. Any piece of media left in the print\ er, whether large or small, can obstruct the media path and cause further misfeeds. Do not reload media that has misf\ ed. WARNING: If you accidentally get toner on your clothes, lightly dust them off as \ best as you can. If some toner remains on your clothes, use cool, not hot water, to rinse the toner off. If toner \ gets on your skin, wash it off with cool water and a mild soap. If you get toner in your eyes, wash it out immediately \ with cool water and consult a doctor. Note: The printed side of jammed pages may smudge, and the toner may stick to \ your hands. Do not touch the printed side of the media when removing it. Make sure not to spill any t\ oner insidethe printer. When a jam occurs, the control panel touch screen displays an animated g\ raphic showing the location of the jam.
