Troubleshooting ColorQube 8700/8900 Color Multifunction Printer 191 User Guide Document Prints From Wrong Tray Probable Causes Solutions Application and print driver have conflicting tray selections. 1. Check the tray selected in the print driver. 2. Go to the page setup or printer settings of the application from which you are printing. 3. Set the paper source to match the tray selected in the print driver or set the paper source to Automatically Select. Note: Set the paper source tray selection to Automatic to have the print driver select the tray. Document Fails to Print Probable Causes Solutions Selected tray has wrong paper size loaded. To view the Job Status for a failed print on the touch screen: 1. Press the Job Status button, then touch the Active Jobs tab. 2. Find the failed print job in the list. 3. Note the status of the failed print job, such as Held: Resources Required. 4. Touch to select the print job for more details, then touch Job Details . 5. Note the Tray number listed under Resources and the Status of the selected tray. 6. Load the proper size paper in the tray or se lect another tray. The way the printer was installed on the network could be an issue. • Determine if a print spooler or a computer sharing the printer is buffering all print jobs and then spooling them to the printer. Spooling can slow print speeds. • To test the printer, print some information pages such as the Office Demo Page. If the page prints, you could have a network or printer installation issue. For additional help, contact the system administrator. Application and print driver have conflicting tray selections. For details, see Document Prints from Wrong Tray on page 191. Printer Makes Unusual Noises Probable Causes Solutions One of the paper trays is not installed correctly. Open and close the paper tray from which you are printing. Tray 1 roller is out of position. To reset the roller position, open and close the top left side door. There is an obstruction or debris inside the printer. Turn off the printer and remove the obstruction or debris. If you cannot remove it, contact your Xerox representative.
Troubleshooting 192 ColorQube 8700/8900 Color Multifunction Printer User Guide Automatic 2 -Sided Printing Problems Probable Causes Solutions Unsupported or incorrect paper. Ensure that you are using the correct paper. For details, see Supported Paper on page 42. Do not use envelopes, labels, reloaded paper, or paper heavier than 122 g/m² for automatic 2- sided printing. Note: Reloaded paper is paper previously printed or copied on laser or solid ink printers. Incorrect setting. In the print driver Properties, select 2 -Sided Print on the Paper/Output tab. Date and Time are Incorrect The date and time are set automatically when the printer is connected to a network that has a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server. NTP is used to synchronize the internal clocks of computers over a network connection at system startup and every subsequent 24 -hour period thereafter. This feature ensures that the inte rnal clock of the printer stays synchronized with the NTP server you specify. Note: To access this feature at the control panel, log in as an administrator. Probable Causes Solutions The time zone, date, or time is set incorrectly. 1. At the printer control panel, press the Machine Status button, then touch the Tools tab. 2. Touch Device Settings > General > Date & Time. 3. To set the time zone, touch Time Zone and touch the arrows to adjust the time zone. 4. To set the date, touch Date, select a format and set the date. 5. To set the time, touch Time and set the time. Select Display 24 hour clock to use 24 hour format. 6. Touch Save.

Turn off the printer using the power switch on the back of the printer. 2. On the touch screen, touch Standard Power Off . 3. Wait for the printer to complete its power off sequence. 4. On the back of the printer, squeeze the two latches on the connector of the scanner cable, then remove the cable. 5. Reinsert t he cable by pushing the connector until both latches click into place. 6. Turn on the power switch. If the error persists, contact your Xerox representative.

Try to remove the paper in the same direction it normally moves through the printer. Even a small piece of paper left in the printer can cause a jam. Do not reload paper that has jammed. 4. Close the top left side door. 5. Replace the paper in the tray.

If you did not find jammed paper , push up the latch on the left side of the printer to open the top left side door. 3. Remove any remaining pieces of paper. 4. Close the door.

This procedure separates any sheets that are stuck together and reduces the possibility of jams. 6. Replace the paper in the tray. 7. Verify that the paper is the correct size, type, and weight. If not, change the paper settings. 8. On the printer touch screen, touch Confirm .

Before removing the paper tray from the printer, loo k at the jam message on the control panel. If another jam is shown, clear that jam first. 2. Pull out the tray until it stops. 3. Ensure that the paper is an approved type, weight, and size for the tray. Print custom size paper only from Tray 1. 4. Remove any crumpled paper from the tray. Note: If the paper is torn, remove all torn pieces from the printer. 5. Push the tray completely back into the printer.
