When the ink must be replaced, an error message appears on the control panel. You can add ink any time the printer is idle. Notes: • Keep ink in its packaging until you are ready to use it. • Identify the ink by number, color, and shape. • Do not force the solid ink when inserting it into the printer. • To avoid jams, never insert broken solid ink into the printer. Press the Ink Access Do or Release button.

Do not force the solid ink into the bin. Each color is shaped uniquely to fit into the correct bin. CAUTION: Use of ink other than Genuine Xerox® ColorQube solid ink can affect print quality and printer reliability. It is the only ink designed and manufactured under strict quality controls by Xerox for specific use with this printer. 4. Close the ink access door.
Maintenance ColorQube 8700/8900 Color Multifunction Printer 173 User Guide Emptying the Waste Tray When the waste tray is full, the control panel displays an Empty Waste Tray message. To empty the waste tray: 1. Open the front door. 2. Remove the waste tray from the printer. WARNING: The waste tray can be hot; handle it carefully. 3. Empty the waste tray in a waste container. Twist the waste tray slightly to dislodge the waste ink. The ink is non- toxic and can be discarded as normal office waste. CAUTION: Do not attempt to reuse the waste ink in the printer; it can damage the printer. This damage is not covered under the printer warranty.

Replacing Staples in the Convenience Stapler 1. Open the convenience stapler door as shown. 2. Grip the staple cartridge by the orange handle and remove it by pulling it to the left. 3. On the new staple cartridge, ensure that the staple strips on top of the stack are complete and flat. Remove any partial strips and any strips that are bent. 4. Grip the new staple cartridge by the orange handle and insert the cartridge into the stapler until it clicks.

Replacing Staples in the 650-Sheet Finisher A staple cartridge has two parts: the orange handle cartridge and the staple refill in a case. Both parts are customer replaceable. To replace the staples: WARNING: Do not perform this procedure while the printer is copying or printing. 1. Open the finisher stapler door at the rear of the finisher as shown. 2. Grip the staple cartridge by the orange handle and pull it firmly toward you to remove it.

Insert the front side of the new staple case into the staple cartridge (1), then push the rear side into the cartridge (2). 5. Grip the new staple cartridge by the orange handle and insert the cartridge into the stapler until it clicks. 6. Close the door.

The impression counts shown are used for billing. To view Billing and Usage information: 1. At the printer control panel, press the Machine Status button. 2. To view basic impression counts, touch the Billing Information tab: − Black + Color Level 1 Impressions shows the total number of pages with only black color, or up to 1.3% combined coverage of cyan, magenta, or yellow. Xerox refers to this coverage as Useful Color. − Color Level 2 Impressions shows the total number of pages with greater than 1.3% and up to 6% combined coverage of cyan, magenta, and yellow. Xerox refers to this coverage as Everyda y Color. − Color Level 3 Impressions shows the total number of pages with greater than 6% combined coverage of cyan, magenta, and yellow. Xerox refers to this coverage as Expressive Color. − Total Impressions shows the total number of pages for all coverages a nd colors. Note: A page is one side of a sheet of paper that can be printed on one or two sides. A sheet printed on two sides counts as two impressions. 3. To view detailed usage information, touch Usage Counters . 4. Touch Impression Counters , then select an option. 5. Touch Close.

The serial number is on the left side of the printer frame behind Tray 2. The serial number also appears on the control panel. Press the Machine Status button to view the serial number on the control panel. Consumables Consumables are printer supplies that get depleted during the operation of the printer. Consumable supplies for this printer are the Genuine Xerox® ColorQube solid ink in cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. The ink shapes can vary by printer model. Ensure that you order the correct ink for your specific printer model. CAUTION: Use of ink other than Genuine Xerox® ColorQube solid ink can affect print quality and printer reliability. It is the only ink designed and manufactured under strict quality controls by Xerox for specific use with this printer. For details on adding ink, see Adding ColorQube Ink on page 171. To save ink, leave the printer turned on at all times. For details, see Minimizing Ink Usage on page 188 .

Replacements can be parts or kits. Routine maintenance items are typically customer replaceable. These parts have longer rated lives than routine maintenance items. Note: Each customer replaceable unit includes installation instructions.
