10-1 User Guide The Interface Module (IM) is an optional finishing accessory that is used in conjunction with other optional finishing accessories, such as the High Capacity Stacker or the Basic Finisher with Booklet Maker. The IM provides the following: A paper path between the machine and the • connected finishing device (for example, the High Capacity Stacker or Basic Finisher with Booklet Maker) Paper curl correction functions • Communications between the machine and the • various connected finishing devices Interface Module High Capacity Stacker (HCS) The Control Panel consists of the following: 1 Auto Curl button: This button selects the Auto Decurl function. 2 Manual Curl Up button:This button selects the three values of manual up curl. 3 Manual Curl Down button: This button selects the three values of manual down curl. 4 Auto Curl indicator: This idicates the that the Auto Curl Mode is selected. 5 Curl Up/Down Indicators: These indicate the amount of manual curl (up or down) that is selected. Xerox 700 Digital Color Press Addendum 10-2 User Guide As media enters the Interface Module, it is fed to the Decurler for curl correction. The Decurler has both upper and lower decurl rolls that apply pressure to the media based upon the following: System default • Decurl selections made in tools-mode on the User • Interface Manual selections made at the Decurler Control • Panel Based on the decurl settings, the Decurler Gate routes the paper either to the up-curl (Upward/Cupped) path or to the down-curl (Downward/Bridged) path. Pressure then is applied to the paper to remove any upward or downward curl. The paper is then moved from the decurler to the connected finishing device. From the machine Decurler To the finishing device Paper path Paper curl When paper is exposed to heat, the paper loses moisture and curls toward\ the heat source. High coverage jobs tend to curl more due to the toner plastification effect on the paper surface. T\ he system tries attempts to reduce this by using a mechanical decurling device, located within the Interface Module. Some factors affecting paper curl are: The weight of the paper and/or whether it is coated or uncoated. • The amount of dry ink/toner and the area being coverage per sheet. • How the paper is loaded in the tray. • The atmospheric conditions of the paper storage room and at the printer \ location. • Downloaded From ManualsPrinter.com Manuals
Addendum Xerox 700 Digital Color Press 10-3 User Guide In Auto Decurler mode, appropriate decurl settings are selected from the\ Tools Mode on the UI by: 1. Logging on as Administrator 2. Pressing the Machine Status button. 3. Selecting the Tools tab 4. Selecting System Settings/Common Service Settings/Maintenance 5. Selecting Decurler Setup The Manual Decurler mode has seven levels of curl correction available a\ t the Interface Module Control Panel: Three levels of Up-curl correction Three levels of Down-curl correction, and • A No correction level. • The amount of curl correction is changed by selecting a related button. \ The current selected amount of curl correction is displayed by the Control Panel LEDs. Your system is also designed with several automated presettings for cont\ rolling paper curl. When using these settings, the machine automatically sets the amount of curl correction at the Decu\ rler. Therefore, if paper curl is a problem, use one of the preset Decurler settings in order to eliminate the problem. When the media passes through the decurler, you are notified of the curr\ ent amount of curl correction by-way-of the various LEDs on the Interface Module Control Panel. In addition to Auto \ Decurler mode, you can manually select curl correction from the Interface Module Control Panel.
