To customize the automatic photo name: 1.Tap Options. 2.Tap the Auto Name Format pick list. 3.Select Custom. 4.Enter the name you want to use as a prefix for the photos in the current session. 5.Ta p O K . AdvancedOpens the Advanced Controls dialog box where you can preview and select the following settings: White balance. Changes the exposure settings based on the lighting conditions. You can select from the following options: Automatic, Fluorescent, Indoors, and Sunlight. The default setting is Automatic. Contrast. Adjusts the ratio between light and dark colors. Auto brightness. Toggles the display of the brightness slider on and off. When the slider is visible, you can adjust the brightness of camera images without affecting your other handheld screens.
Chapter 12 Using Palm™ Photos 132 Taking photos Each time you open the camera and take photos, you initiate a new photo session. When you close the camera, you end the current photo session. To take photos: 1.Open the camera. 2.Position your handheld so that the photo you want to photograph appears in the viewfinder on the handheld screen. If you see thumbnail images instead of the image you want to photograph, tap the Viewfinder button. 3.Press the shutter button to take the photo. If you enabled the Review photo before saving option, the photo appears on your handheld screen for a brief period. If you are not satisfied with the photo, tap the trash button to delete the photo. If you do not delete the photo, it is Viewfinder button
Using the camera 133 automatically saved in JPEG format in the designated location (your handheld or an expansion card) and the viewfinder reappears. 4.Repeat steps 1 through 4 to take more photos. Managing memory space for photos The viewfinder displays the number of photos you have room to store in the selected location. The selected location is based on the Save to setting in the Options dialog box. If you fill the available memory, an Out of memory screen appears, where you can select photos to delete or access the Options screen to select a lower resolution setting for new photos. Alternatively you can close the camera and move photos between your handheld and an expansion card (sold separately) and you can change the destination for new photos to your handheld or an expansion card based on available space. To make room for more photos: 1.From the Out of memory screen, tap the Thumbnail button. 2.Select any photos you want to delete. 3.Tap the Trash button. 4.Ta p D o n e . Chapter 12 Using Palm™ Photos 134 Approving photos You can review the photos you took during the current session and delete any unwanted photos prior to ending the session. To approve photos taken in the current session: 1.After taking a series of photos, tap the Thumbnail button. 2.Tap any photo you want to view. TIPYou can also select a photo with the 5-way navigator. Press Select on the navigator to insert the highlight, press Up, Down, Right, or Left to highlight a specific photo, and then press Select to view the photo. 3.If you are not satisfied with a photo, tap the trash button. 4.Close the camera to end the current photo session. After you close the camera Palm Photos appears on the screen and displays the Camera album. The Camera album contains all the photos from your most current session that were stored on your handheld as well as any photos taken with your camera that have not been filed in another album. Viewing photos A record in Palm Photos is called a photo. Photos can be captured directly on your handheld with the built-in camera, or a file that you transfer from your computer, store on an expansion card, or receive from another device. This section covers how to view, manage, and exchange photos that are stored on your handheld or on an expansion card that is seated in the expansion slot. For information on transferring photos from your computer, see“Installing files and add-on applications” in Chapter 4 and the online Help in Palm Desktop software. Thumbnail button
Viewing photos 135 You can use Palm Photos to view the following types of photos: nPhotos that you capture directly on your handheld with the built-in camera nJPG files nBMP files Viewing photos in Thumbnail view Thumbnail view displays miniature versions of your photos so that you can see several photos on the screen at the same time. Use this view to browse through photos or to locate a photo when you don’t know the name of the photo. To view photos in Thumbnail view: 1.Tap the Thumbnail icon . 2.Tap the Album pick list in the upper-right corner and select the album you want to view. 3.Tap the thumbnail of the photo you want to view. TIPYou can also select a photo with the navigator. Press Select on the navigator to insert the highlight, press Up, Down, Right, or Left to highlight a specific photo, and then press Select to view the photo. 4.Tap anywhere on the screen to return to Thumbnail view. Chapter 12 Using Palm™ Photos 136 Viewing photos in List view List view displays a list of your photos so that you can see the names and dates associated with your photos. Use this view to locate a photo when you know the name or the date the photo was created. To view photos in List view: 1.Tap the List icon . 2.Tap the Album pick list in the upper-right corner and select the album you want to view. 3.Tap the name of the photo you want to view. TIPYou can also browse and select a photo with the navigator. See“Using the navigator” in Chapter 2 for details. 4.Tap anywhere on the screen to return to List view. Viewing photos 137 Viewing a slide show A slide show is a sequential presentation of each of the photos in the current album. You can set the length of time each photo remains on the screen in the Preferences dialog box. To view a slide show: 1.Tap the Album pick list in the upper-right corner and select the album you want to view. 2.Tap Slide Show. To adjust the delay between photos during a slide show: 1.Tap the Menu icon . 2.Select Options, and then select Preferences. 3.Tap the pick list and select the delay interval: 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds, 5 seconds, or 1 minute. 4.Ta p O K . To rotate and photo: 1.Tap the Menu icon . 2.Select Photo, and then select Rotate. 3.Tap the photo you want to rotate. TIPYou can also select a photo with the navigator. Press Select on the navigator to insert the highlight, press Up, Down, Right, or Left to highlight a specific photo, and then press Select to view the photo. 4.Select the new orientation. 5.Ta p D o n e . Viewing photo information The Photo Details dialog box enables you to view information about a photo and to change the photo name, assign it to an album, add a note about the photo, and delete a photo. To review photo information: 1.Tap the Menu icon . 2.Select Photo, and then select Details.

Organizing photos There are several ways you can organize your photos. You can sort photos in the List view, file photos in albums, and copy photos to an expansion card. Sorting photos in List view In List view you can sort photos in ascending or descending order by name or date. To sort photos in List view: 1.Tap a column heading to sort the photos based on that item. 2.Tap the column heading to sort the photos in reverse order.
