NDA-30046 Revision 4.0Page 137 Attendant Management System Operations Manual Display Configuration Message Window The Message Window option on the Display Configuration menu is used to configure up to eight field labels which attendants can use to enter information when taking messages at the call processing screen. Figure 9-9 Message Window Configuration About Message Window Configuration The Message Window Configuration option displays a list of prompts with default field labels and a pop-up window to the right with all of the possible field labels that are available for the Message-Taking window on the call processing screen, as shown in Figure 9-10. Figure 9-10 Message-Taking Window Note: The Message field requires four lines when it is displayed on the Message Taking screen and must therefore always be selected as the last entry on the Message Window Configuration screen. To select a field label, move the highlight down the list in the pop-up window until it is positioned on the desired field. Then press Enter to accept it. The field label automatically moves to the next available prompt. Continue this process until all desired field labels are selected, then press Esc. Note that the order of selection is the order in which the field labels appear on the Message Taking screen. Selections take effect the next time an operator enters the Message-Taking Window. Figure 10-1 Platform Management Menu Options The AMS Platform Management Menu provides the following options: AMS–Displays the Operator Menu as if the login was ams. Install Database–Creates new database fields using AMS instructions. Remove Database–Removes the entire AMS database. Note: Do not use the Remove Database option with- out first having backed up the database on tape. Use the Informix guide for instructions. Build Database Indices–Recreates the indexes that control how data is stored, sorted, and retrieved, using instructions embedded in AMS software. Erase Database Indices–Erases the indexes that control how data is stored, sorted, and retrieved. Cluster Database Indices–Restructures the database indexes to improve efficiency in database access and searches. Set Menu Colors–Reconfigures the color of all screens in the AMS and related applications. Display Table Count–Lists the internal AMS tables and displays a count of each table’s records. AMS Platform Management Menu Options AMS Install Database Remove Database Build Database Indices Erase Database Indices Cluster Database Tables Set Menu Colors Display Table Count Key Pad Value Test Terminal Maintenance InformiX dbaccess Utility Enter Option: [ ] Logout UNIX

This value can be used for speed-dial database records. Terminal Maintenance–Sets up a terminal to display the AMS login screen at all times. InformiX–Enters the dbaccess utility provided by Informix to allow query and unloading of the AMS database. UNIX–When you select this option, refer to a UNIX reference guide for more information. Logout–Logs out of this user session and returns to the Unix login prompt or the AMS login prompt, if configured. (See “Constantly Display The Login Screen” on page 32 for more information.) Procedure Action Result At the Login, type amsadm and press Enter. The AMS Platform Management Menu appears. Refer to the following pages for information and instructions for using each menu option. To exit the AMS Platform Management Menu, type l for Logout inside the brackets and press Enter. The Login prompt reappears.

Figure 10-2 Install Database When to Use Install Database Use this option only in the event of system failure or after using the Remove Database option. Once the new database fields are created through this option, use the Build Database Indexes option to identify the order in which the records in the database are stored. Then, if desired, consult an Informix guide to retrieve data from the backup tape that was made before the Remove Database option was used. WARNING: To protect the database, do not use this option without first backing up the database on tape through the Backup Database option. Figure 10-3 Remove Database When to Use Remove Database The Remove Database option removes all data currently stored in AMS. Use of this option removes all extension assignments for employees, internal locations, external locations, etc. Use the InformiX dbaccess option first to unload a copy of the database to the hard drive. Then remove the database with this option, create new database fields with the Create Database option, identify the order of record storage with the Make Database Indexes option, and then reload the stored database copy from the hard drive via the InformiX dbaccess option. Figure 10-4 Make Database Indexes When to Use Install Database Indices Once the Install Database Indices option defines the fields of the new database using AMS instructions, the Build Database Indices option marks the fields that are to be used as indexes, identifying the order in which records are stored and sorted during lookups. After these two options have been used, data can be re- entered to the database or retrieved from an unloaded copy in the hard drive. Restructuring improves efficiency in database access and searches. Note: Never use the Cluster Database Tables option while attendants are online! Figure 10-6 Rebuild Database Indexes When to Use Cluster Database Tables We recommend that it be performed at least once a week to maintain peak efficiency in database look-ups. Page 148NDA-30046 Revision 4.0 Platform Management Attendant Management System Operations Manual Set Menu Colors The Set Menu Colors option on the AMS Platform Management Menu is used to reconfigure the color of all screens within the AMS. Figure 10-7 Set Menu Colors About Set Menu Colors This option brings great versatility to the process of “coloring” the AMS screens. Here’s how it works: For the most part, each screen contains items, and AMS controls the color of every item according to its foreground and background. The item foreground is typically the displayed word(s), such as an option on a menu, a prompt for data entry, or a column title. The background of each item is the space around the word(s), which may or may not be visible, depending upon its color. If its color contrasts at all with other adjacent screen item backgrounds, it is visible; if not, it is not visible. Samples of AMS screens are shown on the left of Screen (2) and a multi-page list of all AMS screen items is shown to the right in the same screen in Figure 10-7 above. Each item is listed twice; once for its foreground color selection (fore) and again for its background color selection (back). Each item has a color square displayed to its right that represents the current color. However, when the cursor moves to an item, a display of several colored squares spreads out to the right of the item with an “X” on the current selection. Changes to the color for an item are made by moving the “X” with the arrow keys to the color of choice. As a change is made to this right-hand list, it is demonstrated on the corresponding sample screen(s) to the left.
