13. PARKING THE HEADS ON 
MFM-TYPE HARD DISK DRIVES 
13.1 Before powering down the system when using an 
MFM-type hard disk drive, always, “park the heads” on 
the hard disk drive using the following procedure. This 
moves the heads off of the hard disk and helps to prevent 
damage to the disk when the system is powered back up.
