11.Reinstall the ink cartridge. It should now snap down into place. 12.Close the ink cartridge access door, and check if the error message has gone away. 13. If you still receive the error message, turn the product off, and then on again. Cause: The ink cartridges were not installed properly. If this did not solve the issue, try the next solution. If prompted, choose your country/region, and then click Contact HP for information on calling for te chnical support. Cause: There was a problem with the ink cartridges. Solution 1: Install the print head and cartridgesSolution: Make sure that you follow the instructions in the Setup Guide for installing the print head and the ink cartridges. If you installed the print head and ink cartridges and the message still appears, remove and reinsert them using the following procedure. To reinstall the print head 1. Make sure that the product is turned on. 2. Open the ink cartridge access door by lifting from the front right of the product, until the door locks into place. 3.The print carriage moves to the middle of the product. Errors 171 Troubleshooting
4.Remove all of the ink cartridges and place them on a piece of paper with the ink opening pointing up. To remove the ink cartridges a. Push in the tab on the ink cartridge you want to replace to release it from the slot. b. Pull the ink cartridge up and then toward you out of its slot to remove it. c. Repeat steps a and b to until all ink cartridges are removed. 5. Lift the latch handle on the print carriage until it stops. Chapter 11 172 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting
6.Remove the print head by lifting it up. 7.Clean the print head. There are three areas of the print head that need to be cleaned; the nozzle area,the edge between the nozzles and contacts, and the electrical contact area. 1Nozzles 2Edge between nozzles and contacts 3Electrical contacts CAUTION: Touch the nozzle and the electrical contact areas only with swabs and not with your finger. To clean the print head a. Lightly dampen a cotton swab and wipe the electrical contact area from the bottom to the top. In order to avoid transferring ink and debris from the contact area to the nozzles, do not go past the edge of the print head. Use an many fresh swabs as necessary. Clean until no ink shows on the swab. b. Lightly dampen a fresh swab and wipe the nozzle area. Wipe in one direction only (do not wipe back and forth). In order to avoid transferring ink and debris from the nozzle area to the contacts, do not go past the edge of the print head. NOTE: Use separate swabs for cleaning the different nozzles. c. Use a fresh swab to wipe any accumulated ink and debris from the edge of the print head. d. Wipe the area dry with a dry swab before proceeding to the next step. 8. Make sure the latch handle is raised, and then reinsert the print head. 9.Carefully lower the latch handle. NOTE: Make sure you lower the latch ha ndle before reinserting the ink cartridges. Leaving the latch handle raised can result in incorrectly seated ink cartridges and problems printing. The latch must remain down in order to correctly install th e ink cartridges. 10.Reinsert the ink cartridges. To reinsert the ink cartridges ▲Using the colored shaped icons for help, slide the ink cartridge into the empty slot until it clicks into place and is seated firmly in the slot. Make sure that you insert the ink cartridge into the slot that has the same shaped icon and color as the one you are installing. 11. Close the ink cartridge access door. Cause: The print head or ink cartridges were not installed or incorrectly installed. If this did not solve the issue, try the next solution. Solution 2: Contact HP support Solution: Contact HP support for service. Go to: www.hp.com/support . If prompted, choose your country/region, and then click Contact HP for information on calling for te chnical support. Cause: There was a problem installing the print head or ink cartridges. Low on ink Solution: You might be able to continue printing for a short period of time with ink remaining in the print head. Follow the prompts on the display to continue. HP recommends that you do not remove an ink cartridge until a replacement is ready to install. If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another product, the ink level indicator may be inaccurate or unavailable. Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When you receive a low-ink warning message, consider having replacement ink cartridges available to avoid possible printing delays. Original HP ink depleted Solution: Follow the prompts on the display to continue, or replace the indicated ink cartridges. Check the print quality of the current print job. If a used cartridge is installed, check the print quality. If it is not satisfactory, run the cleaning procedure from the toolbox.
