There is a glass strip under the automatic document feeder. 5.Clean the glass strip with a soft cloth or sponge slightly moistened with a nonabrasive glass cleaner. CAUTION:Do not use abrasives, acetone, benzene, or carbon tetrachloride on the glass, since they can damage it. Do not place or spray liquid directly on the glass. The liquid might seep under the glass and damage the device. 6.Lower the automatic document feeder mechanism, and then close the cover of the automatic document feeder. 7.Close the lid. 8.Plug in the power cord, and then turn on the HP All-in-One. Check the estimated ink levels You can easily check the ink supply level to determine how soon you might need to replace a print cartridge. The ink supply level shows an estimate of the amount of ink remaining in the print cartridges. TIP:You can also print a self-test report to see if your print cartridges might need to be replaced. NOTE:The HP All-in-One can only detect the ink levels for genuine HP ink. The ink levels in print cartridges that are refilled or have been used in other devices, might not register accurately. NOTE:The ink levels shown are an estimate only. Actual ink volumes may vary. To check the ink levels from the HP Solution Center Software 1.In the HP Solution Center, click Settings, point to Print Settings, and then click Printer Toolbox. NOTE:You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Services tab, and then click Service this device. The Printer Toolbox appears. 2.Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink levels for the print cartridges appear. Check the estimated ink levels 109
Related topics Print a self-test report Print a self-test report If you are experiencing problems with printing, print a self-test report before you replace the print cartridges. This report provides useful information on several aspects of your device, including your print cartridges. To print a self-test report 1.Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray. 2.Press Setup. 3.Press 2, then press 4. This selects Print Report and then selects Self-Test Report. The HP All-in-One prints a self-test report, which might indicate the source of the printing problem. A sample of the ink test area of the report is shown below. 4.Make sure the lines of color extend across the page. If the black line is missing, faded, streaked, or shows lines, this might indicate a problem with the black print cartridge in the right slot. If any of the remaining three lines are missing, faded, streaked, or show lines, this might indicate a problem with the tri-color print cartridge in the left slot. If the color bars do not appear as black, cyan, magenta and yellow, you might need to clean the print cartridges. If the problem is not resolved by cleaning the print cartridges, you might need to replace the print cartridges. Work with print cartridges To ensure the best print quality from the HP All-in-One, you will need to perform some simple maintenance procedures and, when prompted by a message on the display, replace the print cartridges. NOTE:Ink from cartridges is used in the printing process in a number of different ways, including in the initialization process, which prepares the device and cartridges for printing, and in printhead servicing, which keeps print nozzles clear and ink flowing smoothly. NOTE:Handle the print cartridges carefully. Dropping or jarring cartridges can cause temporary printing problems, or even permanent damage. Replace the print cartridges Follow these instructions when the ink level is low. NOTE:When the ink level for the print cartridge is low, a message appears on the display. You can also check the ink levels by using the HP Photosmart Studio (Mac) Software on your computer. NOTE:When the ink level for the print cartridge is low, a message appears on the display. You can also check the ink levels by using the Printer Toolbox available through the HP Solution Center Software on your computer or through the Print Properties dialog box on your computer. When you receive a low-ink warning message on the display, make sure you have a replacement print cartridge available. You should also replace the print cartridges when you see faded text or if you experience print quality issues related to the print cartridges. If prompted, choose your country/region, follow the prompts to select your product, and then click one of the shopping links on the page. To replace the print cartridges 1.Make sure the HP All-in-One is on. CAUTION:If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door to access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the cartridges for changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print cartridges are not docked safely when you try to remove them. 2.Open the print cartridge door. The print carriage should move to the far right side of the HP All-in-One. If the print carriage does not move to the right side, close the door. Then, turn the HP All-in-One off, and then on again. 3.Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it. If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. If you are replacing the black print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right. 1Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge 2Print cartridge slot for the black print cartridges 4.Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot. 5.If you are removing the print cartridge because it is low or out of ink, recycle the print cartridge. 6.Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab. 1Copper-colored contacts 2Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing) 3Ink nozzles under tape CAUTION:Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. 7.Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Then gently push on the upper part of the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket. If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot. 8.Close the print cartridge door. 9.If you installed a new print cartridge, the print cartridge alignment process begins. 10.Make sure you have plain paper loaded in the input tray, and press OK. The HP All-in-One prints a print cartridge alignment sheet. 11.Load the print cartridge alignment sheet print side up and top first in the center of the document feeder tray, and then press OK. The HP All-in-One aligns the print cartridges. Recycle or discard the print cartridge alignment sheet. Remove the black print cartridge and insert the photo print cartridge in its place. With the tri-color print cartridge and photo print cartridge installed, you have a six-ink system, which provides enhanced quality color photos. When you want to print regular text documents, swap the black print cartridge back in. Use a print cartridge protector or an airtight plastic container to keep your print cartridge secure when it is not being used. Use the print cartridge protector In some countries/regions, when you purchase a photo print cartridge, you might also receive a print cartridge protector. In other countries/regions, a print cartridge protector comes in the box with the HP All-in-One. If neither your print cartridge nor the HP All-in- One came with a print cartridge protector, you can use an airtight plastic container to protect your print cartridge. The print cartridge protector is designed to keep a print cartridge secure and prevent it from drying out when it is not being used. Whenever you remove a print cartridge from the HP All-in-One with the intention of using it again later, store it in the print cartridge protector. For example, store the black print cartridge in a print cartridge protector if you are removing it so you can print high-quality photos with the photo and tri-color print cartridges. To insert a print cartridge into the print cartridge protector ▲Place the print cartridge into the print cartridge protector at a slight angle and snap it securely into place. To remove the print cartridge from the print cartridge protector ▲Press down on the top of the print cartridge protector to release the print cartridge, then gently remove the print cartridge out of the print cartridge protector. Align the print cartridges The HP All-in-One prompts you to align cartridges every time you install or replace a print cartridge. You can also align the print cartridges at any time from the control panel or by using the software you installed with the HP All-in-One. Aligning the print cartridges ensures high-quality output. NOTE:If you remove and reinstall the same print cartridge, the HP All-in-One will not prompt you to align the print cartridges. The HP All-in-One remembers the alignment values for that print cartridge, so you do not need to realign the print cartridges. To align the print cartridges from the control panel when prompted 1.Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray. NOTE:If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align the print cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper into the input tray, and then try the alignment again. If the alignment fails again, you might have a defective sensor or print cartridge. Contact HP Support. Clean the print cartridges Use this feature when the self-test report shows streaking, white lines through any of the lines of color or when a color is muddy after installing a print cartridge for the first time. Do not clean print cartridges unnecessarily, as this wastes ink and shortens the life of the ink nozzles. To clean the print cartridges from the control panel 1.Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray. 2.Press Setup. 3.Press 6, then press 1. This selects Tools and then selects Clean Print Cartridge. The HP All-in-One prints a page that you can recycle or discard. If copy or print quality still seems poor after you clean the print cartridges, try cleaning the print cartridge contacts before replacing the affected print cartridge.
