Your BlackBerry device password canht be recovered or changed if you donht enter your current 
password correctly. For security reasons, the only way that you can reset your password without 
knowing your current password is to delete all of your device data. You can do this by entering an  incorrect device password multiple times.
BlackBerry recommends that you regularly create and save a backup file on your computer.
Display
text
when
your
device
is
locked
You can display text on the screen of your BlackBerry device when the device is locked. For example, 
you can display a favorite quote, emergency contact information, or your own contact information so 
that if you lose your device, anyone who finds it can contact you.
1.On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.

Privacy > Lock

Protect
your
SIM
card
with
a
PIN
You can use a SIM card PIN to prevent unauthorized use of your SIM card in another device. For 
example, if you lose your SIM card and someone tries to use it in another device, the SIM card canht be 
used unless the PIN is entered correctly.
You can request the PIN for your SIM card from your service provider.
1.On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.

CAUTION:

Finding
and
protecting
a
lost
device
After you turn on BlackBerry Protect in your device settings, visit http://protect.blackberry.com and 
sign in with your 
BlackBerry ID. On the BlackBerry Protect website, you can view the current location of 
your device on a map, make it ring (even if iths in silent mode), or display a custom message on your 
locked device to provide instructions about how to contact you. If your device is stolen, you can 
remotely lock it, change the password, or delete all of the data from your device.
If you add a work email account to your device, your administrator might disable BlackBerry Protect, or 
the ability to remotely change your password or locate your device.

settings
You can set and change the security settings for applications on your BlackBerry device, and set up 
parental controls to restrict or limit access to features and content. You can use a smart card, and 
import certificates from your computer to increase the security of data on your device. And if you need 
to permanently delete all data from your device, you can wipe it.
Setting
security
permissions
for
apps
BlackBerry 10 OS includes application permissions that are designed to let you control the information 
and features that an application can access on your 
BlackBerry device. For example, you can control 
whether an app can access your email, contacts, pictures, or the location of your device. Keep in mind 
that some applications require specific permissions to work. You can also help safeguard your device by 
downloading apps only from trusted sources, such as the 
BlackBerry World storefront.
When you open an app for the first time, your device might display a list of the files and features that the 
app wants to access. If something doesnht seem right to you, you can reject the apphs request to access 
an item. For example, you might download a game that requests access to your messages, which might 
make sense if the game includes a feature to share your game score. However, if you arenht comfortable 
with the game having the ability to compose and view your email messages, you can turn off access to  messages or delete the app. You can view or change permissions for most apps in your device settings.
For some apps, when you install the app, you are prompted to accept or decline all of the requested 
permissions. If you decline, the prompt will appear again the first time you open the app. You canht 
change the application permissions later unless you delete and reinstall the app.

For some apps, if you turn off permissions, the app might not work as you expect. If an app isnt working 
as you expect it to, consider turning on some or all of the app permissions.
The Run When Minimized application permission setting lets an app continue performing tasks after you 
minimize the app on your 
BlackBerry device.To help extend the life of your battery, consider turning off 
the Run When Minimized permission for apps on your device.
1.On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.

tTo view permissions for a particular app, tap an app.
tTo view which apps use a particular permission, in the Permissions drop-down list, tap the

Wipe
your
device
to
delete
your
data
Before you wipe your BlackBerry device, consider backing up your data on a computer. A security wipe 
is designed to permanently delete your data so it canht be recovered. This includes email accounts, 
downloaded apps, media files, documents, browser bookmarks, and settings.
1.On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen.
2.Tap  Settings > Security
and
Privacy > Security
Wipe.
3.Type blackbHrry.
4.Tap Delete
Data.
When the security wipe is complete, your device is turned off automatically. To turn on your device,  press the

Using
Parental
Controls
Parental Controls are designed to give you more control over how a BlackBerry device can be used and 
contacted. You can turn off access to certain apps, features, and content. You can also restrict 
incoming phone calls and messages to people in the Contacts app.

							Parental Controls settings are protected with a password, making them difficult to change or turn off 
without your knowledge. You can set your device so that the Parental Controls password is required to 
add an email or social networking account, or to purchase an app from the 
BlackBerry World storefront.
Note:
If BlackBerry Balance technology is turned on, the Parental Controls feature is not available.
Restrict
or
limit

a
certificate
from

smart
cards
You can use a smart card and the password for your BlackBerry device or work space to unlock your 
device. You can use smart card certificates to send S/MIME-protected messages.
Smart cards store certificates and private keys. You can import certificates from a smart card to your 
device by using an external smart card reader or a microSD smart card. Private key operations such as 
signing and decryption use the smart card. Public key operations such as verification and encryption use 
the public certificates on your device.

authentication
Two-factor authentication lets you use a smart card and the password for your BlackBerry device or 
work space to unlock your device.
The Smart Password Entry feature is designed to make it easier for you to enter your passwords on your 
device. 
Your device can remember the format of the password you type in a password field and, if your 
password is numeric, the device will automatically set the number lock so that you donht have to press 
the Alt key to enter your password.
 Also, if the password for your device or work space and the 
password for your smart card are the same, your device can enter the password for your smart card 
when you type the password for your device or work space.

password for the 
Password Keeper app, the passwords that you store in the app are decrypted so you 
can see them.
Transfer

records
To transfer password records, you must first back up the password data as part of the backup file 
during the device switch process, or export the password records to a backup file.
If you saved the backup file to a media card, insert the media card into your new BlackBerry device. If 
you didnht save the backup file to a media card, you can use 
BlackBerry Link to transfer the records.
